Scripture ReadingA reading from the Acts of the Apostles. 8:4-8Now the disciples who were scattered went from place to place, proclaiming the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah to them. The crowds with one accord listened eagerly to what was said by Philip, hearing and seeing the signs that he did, for unclean spirits, crying with loud shrieks, came out of many who were possessed; and many others who were paralysed or lame were cured. So there was great joy in that city. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Priest: Gracious and merciful God, we pray that through the Holy Spirit all Catholics may hear the call of the New Evangelisation and seek a deeper relationship with your Son, Jesus. We pray that the New Evangelisation will renew the Church, inspiring all Catholics to “go forth and make disciples of all nations” and transform society through the power of the Gospel. We pray for all members of the Church, that we heed the words of Christ—“do not be afraid”—and strengthened by the Holy Spirit’s gift of courage, give witness to the Gospel and share our faith with others. We pray that we may become like the father of the prodigal son —filled with compassion for our missing brothers and sisters—and run to embrace them upon their return. We pray that all people yearning to know Christ and the Church may encounter him through the faithful who witness to his love in their lives.Loving God, our Father, strengthen us to become witnesses to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.ALL: Amen.

Silent Prayer (25 mins)“The worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass is of inestimable value for the life of the Church. .. It is pleasant to spend time with him, to lie close to his breast like the Beloved Disciple and to feel the infinite love present in his heart. If in our time Christians must be distinguished above all by the ‘art of prayer’, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brother and sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it strength, consolation and support!” (John Paul II Ecclesia de Eucharistia 25)

Fulfil this longing through Jesus, the Bread of Life, so that we may witness to him who alone satisfies the hungers of the human family. By the power of your Spirit, lead us to the heavenly table where we may feast on the vision of your glory for ever and ever. ALL: AMEN

IntercessionsPriest: God fills the hearts and minds of all who encounter his Son, Jesus with the joy of the Gospel. Let us pray to the Lord that he may help us to share this joy with others: Response after each petition:R/. Lord, help us to share the joy of the Gospel with others.

As John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother’s womb upon encountering your Son, Jesus, so help us to rediscover and renew the joy of this exchange which you offer also to us.

As your Son, Jesus, set the blind man free to see you clearly and worship you, so too free us from all which blinds us to your presence that we may worship you with joy.

As your Son, Jesus, called Zacchaeus down from the tree that he might accept your offer of salvation, so help us also, that we might hear this offer and be set free to respond generously to the poor and those in need. Other petitions may be added here spontaneously, either aloud or in silenceAs your Son, Jesus, breathed the Holy Spirit on his disciples, before sending them out into the world, so too fill us with the same Spirit in order that we may accept your call to embark upon a new chapter of Spirit-filled Evangelisation, marked by a missionary joy.

Our Father
