Slide 2 Slide 3 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. (Luke 5:1) (Gennesaret) Gennesaret a lake also called the Sea of Galilee or the Sea of Tiberius. The lake was 12 by 7 miles and 675 below the Mediterranean Sea. Slide 4 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. (Mark 1:16, 19) He saw at the waters edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. (Luke 5:2) Slide 12 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat. (Luke 5:3) Slide 13 When he finished speaking, he said to Simon, Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch. (Luke 5:4) (hymon) your of yours (second person possessive plural pronoun) Slide 14 Simon answered, Master, weve worked hard all night and havent caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets. (Luke 5:5) Slide 15 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. (Luke 5:6) Slide 16 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. (Luke 5:7) (kataneuo) signaled to make a sign, to beckon. Slide 17 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) God is omniscient (truthful). ('el 'emeth) God of truth Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. (Psalm 31:5 KJV) Slide 18 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) God is omniscient. God is omnipotent. ('el Shaddai) God Almighty the Lord appeared to him and said, I am God Almighty. (Genesis 17:1b) Slide 19 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) God is omniscient. God is omnipotent. God is merciful. And the Lord said, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (Exodus 33:19) Slide 20 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) God is omniscient. God is omnipotent. God is merciful. God is holy. The Lord said to Moses, Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. (Leviticus 19:1-2) Slide 21 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throneAbove him were seraphimAnd they were calling to one another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory. Woe to me! I cried. I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lipsand my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. (Isaiah 6:1-5) (damah) ruined - to cease, be cut off, perish. Slide 22 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) Jesus is omniscient. Jesus is omnipotent. Jesus is merciful. Jesus is holy. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7) When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) Slide 24 I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong. (Psalm 36:1-4) Slide 25 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. (Hebrews 11:7a) Since you call on a Father who judges each persons work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in holy fear. (I Peter 1:17) Slide 26 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) Jesus is truthful. Jesus is powerful. Jesus is merciful. Jesus is holy. to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free (Luke 4:18b) Slide 27 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus knees and said, Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man! (Luke 5:8) Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. (Luke 4:38a) When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter) (Luke 6:13-14a) Slide 28 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simons partners. (Luke 5:9-10a) (periecho) astonished to take possession of or seize. Slide 29 Then Jesus said to Simon, Dont be afraid; from now on you will fish for men. (Luke 5:10b) Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. (II Timothy 2:25-26) (zogreo) fish to take alive, capture Slide 30 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:11) I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses (Revelation 19:11-14) (akoloutheo) followed to join one as a disciple. Slide 31 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. Follow me, Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:27-28) So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:11) Slide 32 Jesus replied, No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God. (Luke 9:62) So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. (Luke 5:11) Slide 33 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy. (I Peter 1:15-16)
