WELCOME

TODAY’S GOSPEL MESSAGESunday, June 17th

Mark 4:26-34“Jesus said to the crowds: ‘This is how it is with the kingdom of God…It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants…’ With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. To his own disciples, he explained everything in private.”“How many seeds have been planted with us during our lives that we are not aware of anymore? Then one day we encounter someone or something new and we recall what we heard. Now it has a chance to blossom, to flower. We can also think of these seeds taking root outside ourselves, out in the world. Again and again in scripture we learn that the kingdom of God is built in unexpected places.”Source: Pastoral Patterns, Summer 2018

– Pope Francis

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,A blessed Father’s Day to all. There are many levels to our national celebration, many of them tied into marketing campaigns. In the spiritual setting of our church, I urge you to seize the day for its spiritual opportunities.Obviously, this day provides the chance to utter the words “I love you” to your father. I vividly recall saying those words straight out to my own father on this occasion as an eighth grader. I did so because of some prompting at school or at church, but the fact that I had said those words out loud and face-to-face somehow comforted me for the rest of my life.Other things that might need to be said include “thank you,” “I’m sorry,” or “I forgive you.” I believe that such things can even be said, if needed, to our fathers who have gone to God.Mark this day in any way you choose. Let us be at peace with our fathers and with God, Our Father, and all God’s world this day.Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,fr. [email protected]

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

What is RCIA?Is RCIA for You?

RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. What Parents Should Expect From A Religious Education Program

According to an information estimate by the National Catholic Education Association, somewhere between eighty and ninety percent of Catholic children now receive religious education in parish religious education programs. What should a parent expect from a religious education program? Here are six:

A professional educational director Well-prepared catechists Well-balanced curriculum A parish liturgy that teaches and inspires Help in preparing children for sacraments An introduction to Scripture

What Parents Should NOT Expect From A Religious Education Program

What should a parent not expect from a religious education program? Here are three:

A program that teaches everything your child should know about the faith. Families are the primary religious educators of their children.

Catechists and the religious education programs provide additional materials to assist parents in this role.

A program that can keep kids Catholic. Families have the opportunity and environment to provide Catholicity for their children.

A program that solves family problems. Religious education is not about disciplining children. It’s about learning the Gospel and being formed in the faith. It is only with parental involvement that the real goal of religious education—passing the faith on to our children—becomes possible.

Interested in sharing the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community? You’re invited to become a Children’s Liturgy of the Word catechist!

If you are an adult who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and are interested in sharing the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community, please consider joining the Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry.

“FOR ALL THAT HAS BEEN,

THANKSFOR ALL THAT IS TO COME,

YES!”Dag Hammarskjold

Reflecting on my second year as principal at OLMC, I could not envision a quote that said it better than the quote above, hence I am reusing it for year two! I am sincerely grateful to all for the fantastic academic year at OLMC. Working together we have accomplished so much and yet we can easily identify so much more that we hope to accomplish as we begin to plan for 2018-2019.Watching each of our students (from the youngest pre-K little one to the oldest eighth grader), I marvel at their accomplishments and the ways in which our teachers are able to draw out the best in each of them. We are so blessed. There are challenges along the way, yet working as a team, we are able to meet them head on, and move forward in spite of them. The “Carmel Experience” is a true gift and one from which everyone benefits. I pray that we are able to grow in Carmel throughout the summer months and return refreshed to face the new year with wonder and awe!Thank you for what has been and for your willingness to participate in what will be. May you create cherished family memories throughout the summer, remembering always to pray together while you make plans to play together. Looking

Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
