Mr Wilson retired in September after 24 years at Rishworth School.
During his time with us he has not only been a much loved History
teacher, but has also worked and lived in boarding. He will be dearly
missed by both staff and students. We wish him a very happy and
long retirement.
I am sure that you will want to join us in

fantastic success and are now heading out to
top Russell Group and international
universities to study courses ranging from
Medicine and Pharmacy to Mechanical
Engineering, Finance and Veterinary Science.
A really, really great performance and well

members of our community throughout
their time here and we will miss them.

Northern Brass Masterclass

On Wednesday, 20th September, brass players from Rishworth and Heathfield were fortunate enough to take part in
a masterclass with Northern Brass, a professional brass quintet from Manchester, led by Rishworth’s own brass
teacher, Kat Curlett. The students were coached as an ensemble and individually by the five visiting musicians, before
performing a piece alongside them in an afternoon assembly at Heathfield, demonstrating the remarkable progress
made to the rest of the school. During the assembly, Heathfield pupils were introduced to the instruments in the
quintet, as well as how a sound can be produced using a hosepipe and funnel, and the quintet played a variety of
up-tempo music and really wowed the young audience with their versatility. Later that evening, the group played to
a small, but very appreciative audience in the Chapel. We were taken on a journey through time, with excellent
arrangements: Samuel Scheidt’s Battle Suite, J.S. Bach’s Little Fugue in G Minor and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side
Story, as well as a poignant rendition of the Quintet for Brass by Michael Kamen. The quintet sounded sublime in the
resonant acoustic of the Chapel. Many thanks to the students who took part in the masterclass and to the quintet
members who taught and entertained the audiences.
Mr. Lewis
Joel will be competing for the Yorkshire
Gymnastics squad in the National Finals at
Birmingham in November. In the Regionals he

History Trip The Great North Run
Joel Booth Netball Champions
Year 7 went on their annual trip to Skipton Castle and Bolton
Abbey at the end of the summer term.
Ms Sheldrick and Mrs McArdle both took part
in The Great North Run. Ms Sheldrick ran for
MacMillan, the cancer charity and Mrs McArdle
for Tommy’s, the baby charity.
The U13 Netball Team went by invitation to the West Yorkshire
Tournament at Silcoates School in Wakefield as Calderdale
Champions. They beat South Craven, Prince Henry’s Grammar and
Huddersfield Grammar to win their group. In the semi-finals they
met Wakefield Girls’ High School who they beat 11-9. The nail
biting final was against Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) finishing
9-9 at full time and 13-13 after extra time. Both teams were
delighted to declare the tournament a draw which means
Rishworth girls deservedly hold the title of joint West Yorkshire
Champions.
Madison took part in the 500 Words Competition and whilst she didn’t win, she came very high up in the rankings
for her age group. The judging panel were extremely impressed with her writing ability and even took the time to
call her and give her feedback. Her story stood out to the panel and they believe she is a writer in the making.

Madison’s Story - The Future
The year is 3017 and I am 112 years old. I never imagined I would live to this age, but thanks to my younger brother
Hugo, who is the lead scientist for the UK government, we are all living well past our 100th birthday, and more
importantly, we are healthy! Hugo began his work after studying how he could turn all the pollutants on earth into
healthy potions, and using hate technology (he figured out a way to turn peoples hateful thoughts into positive
neurons) we simply drink a potion every day and everything is perfect!
We live in toxin free recycled glass towers, called SiO2 pods, our energy comes direct from the sun (solar-efficiency)
and there is no need for any kind of currency as everything is free and shared when needed. We no longer have
countries, as we found out that countries create wars - in fact we have not had any kind of war or conflict for almost
100 years.
Would you like to hear how we get around our world? It is so exciting! We simply press our thumbs together and
close our eyes and imagine a creature that can fly, I usually think about the mighty eagle, and soar through the sky
to my chosen destination.
I like to visit the polar bears some days on the ice caps at the place you call Canada, and other days I love to fly over
the little islands of what people use to call the Florida Keys and look for conch pearls.
One thing that makes me smile is that children still love to pick up a book and read. Books are very special and
sacred in our world, and since the internet died everything we learn and know comes from a book. Are you
wondering how the internet died? Well people began to notice that it was taking over from every day life, mothers
and fathers were ignoring their children, children were ignoring their parents, and relationships were not the same.
So one day we all kind of just decided we didn't need the internet anymore. At first it was difficult, I mean, all those
selfies we used to post for one thing! We wondered how would we cope without posting a photograph of our lunch,
or how we could manage without video games, but we did it and I am glad because now we have regained our love
of books, and that to me is very important.
I am so happy with what has become of our world, and to think that my once annoying little brother Hugo has
become one of our most praised leaders truly astounds me! So, just think, if you have a sibling who you don't
always see eye to eye with, try your best to get along - you just don't know what the future may have in store!

Dear Parents, Guardians & Friends,
Have you thought about your Christmas Puddings yet??????
If you haven’t, then why not consider the ‘Ultimate Plum Pudding’. These fine and deliciously luxurious Christmas Puddings are made in Cumbria to a family recipe. Exceptionally light, they are full of flavour with no trace of bitterness. They contain an abundance of luxury fruits and nuts soaked with brandy and sherry. Existing customers range from Michelin rated hotels, other major hotel groups and privately labelled puddings for prestigious retail outlets such as Harvey Nichols. The BBC Good Food Magazine said they are as good as the best home made. Another alternative to the traditional pudding, which is just as tasty, is the ‘Chocolate Pudding’.
You too can join this exclusive group of customers whilst at the same time helping to raise funds for the Rishworth School Sports Tour of South Africa, where students will play hockey in locations such as Johannesburg and Cape Town. Whilst on tour the students will visit a variety of game drives, a cheetah sanctuary, they will go whale watching, visit Table Mountain and Langa.
The price is £4.99 per 1lb pudding. All profits from the sale of these puddings will go towards the tour. Please help by ordering Christmas Puddings for yourself or on behalf of friends or business associates. Should you wish to place a larger order or have puddings specially designed with your company logo and message on, then please contact Mrs Bower directly on 01422 820937. They would make an excellent and very different corporate / company Christmas gift.
The vast majority of puddings will be delivered by staff or members of the School, however, those ordered from far away will need to be mailed, in which case please add £4 to cover P & P. Many thanks for your help and generosity.
To place your order simply fill in your details / requirements below.
