diaries. It is going to be a great night and there
will be some special guests coming to Oaklands
for the evening as we celebrate the
achievement of our students in 2018.
Peter Craft
Principal
It is a scary thought to think we are nearly at
the end of 2018! This year has been extremely
busy and our students have been provided with
a huge range of activities to take part in. I
would like to thank Mr Knight for his efforts
while he was relieving AP while I was away the
last week and a half. He did an excellent job
and I thank him for taking on this extra
workload at such a busy time of the year. I
would also like to thank Mrs Clifton and Mr
Craft for attending the 4/5/6 excursion to
Narrabeen in week 6. By all accounts our
students represented our school well and had an
amazing time!
Today Kindergarten-Year 3 headed off to
Beechworth with Mr Knight, Jenny and myself.
We have a big day planned and we cannot wait
to let you all know how it went when we get
back!
During week 7 and 8 all students have been
provided with the opportunity to access high
quality gymnastics sessions with professional
gymnastics instructors. From what I saw last
week all the students thoroughly enjoyed their
first session and are looking forward to their
second session this Friday.
This Friday we also conclude our Kindergarten
Orientation Program for our 2019 kindergarten
cohort. It has been a pleasure getting to know
our new students and introducing them to the
school setting. I would like to thank all the
staff and students who went out of their way
to make our future students feel so welcome. A
special mention must go out to the K/1 students
who welcomed the new kinders’ into our class-
room and made sure they helped them in any
way possible and also to our Year 5 buddies who
took their new kinder buddies under their
wings in the playground.
As we are all aware with the year coming to an
end reports will be going out in week 10. All
staff have been very busy writing each stu-
dents report so please ensure you take them
time to read and reflect on these with your
children.
Another exciting activity happening this week
is our Year 6 Graduation Dinner. Our Year 6
students are very excited to be heading to
Mulwala on Thursday night with some teachers
and Year 5 students to celebrate the end of
their primary school years. We look forward to
celebrating with the students and hope they
enjoy their special night. Thank you to all those
who supported the carwash fundraising events
to cover the costs of this special night!
Our final Wellbeing Rewards Excursion is set
for the last Wednesday of school. We hope
students enjoy celebrating their success for
the year and feel proud if they are given the
opportunity to participate in this special day.
Finally our Presentation Night will be on
PRIMARY NEWS
Tuesday 18th December. Please make sure you
keep this night free and come along to
celebrate our students learning, achievements
and success from 2018.
Warm Regards,
Sally McRorie
Assistant Principal
On Monday the 19th November Years 4/5/6
students met at school at 6.15am to leave for
Narrabeen. We were joined with Savernake and
Urana students. The trip was long and the
teachers kept saying it was going to be more
hours than it was.
We stopped at the Dog on a Tuckerbox for
morning tea. We went past the big Merino in
Goulburn on our way to have lunch in the park
that was full of pigeons. Stephanie was scared
for her life. After lunch we got back on the bus
to continue the journey to Narrabeen. When we
got to Sydney, Russell the bus driver stretched
the trip out even longer when we needed to
stop and get petrol.
We arrived at Narrabeen at 4pm and met our
instructor for the week, Jackson. After, we
settled into our rooms and stretched our legs
before tea.
The meals were very delicious. After dinner, we
played games in the gymnasium. Our favourite
games were the basketball toss over your head,
the blanket slide and the shoe kicking game.
On Tuesday after breakfast, we went paddle
boarding and sailing. We enjoyed playing around
in the water especially knocking each other off
the paddle boards. After lunch we went to the
beach. The teachers told us it was Summer Bay
from ’Home and Away’ but it wasn’t. We played
a game called ‘snatch’ and collected lots of sea
shells.
After dinner, we played games on the soccer
fields. ‘Finger swords’ and ‘scissors, paper,
rock’ were some of the games we played.
Wednesday morning we went abseiling. We ab-
seiled 5m and 10m. Nate fell asleep on the
ground. In the afternoon, we did archery and
initiatives. The teachers won a competition in
archery. In initiatives we had to solve problems
working as a team. The activities were: the
claw machine, the spider web, the balance
beam, the floor is lava, the tyre pyramid and
crate stacking. We also had to guide a friend
through the maze while they had their eyes
closed. After dinner we played cricket, soccer
and touch footy.
On Thursday we were all exhausted. We went
to the high ropes and the flying fox. While Bai-
ley was up on the ropes a heavy rain shower
came down and Bailey got drenched. We got
talking to the Sea Eagles NRL team; the Gen-
eral Manager, John was talking to us about his
job and how much money some of the players
are on.
In the afternoon we went kayaking. We played
games called raft up and swap team members.
Samantha fell off into the water.
NARRABEEN SPORT AND
RECREATION ACADEMY
YEARS 4/5/6 EXCURSION
On Thursday evening, we watched a movie called
‘Brave’. It didn’t take long for us all to go to
sleep Thursday night.
On Friday we packed up our rooms and the bus,
had breakfast and left for home by 9am. We
stopped at Gunning and Wagga Wagga and final-
ly arrived back at school at 5.45pm.
It was a great camp and we have lots of stories
to laugh about. Thanks to Mr Craft, Mrs Bruce
(from Savernake) and Mrs Clifton for coming
along.

Empowerment Day in Finley
On Thursday 29th November, Stage 5 students
travelled across to Finely High School to par-
ticipate in a number of workshops and talks to
learn more about present teenage challenges
and how to cope with these. Thank you to Finley
High School for allowing us to attend.
RAP Study Day
On Friday 30th November Year 10 and Year 12
attended the RAP study Day in Ardlethan. Year
12 attended classes with their coordinating
teachers and fellow peers, making a great start
to the year in Year 12. The Year 10 students
