PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVE
Presentation Night in the School Hall for the first time. Don’t forget to support the P&C by purchasing a raffle ticket for the chance to win a bicycle! I look forward to seeing everyone there.
At the end of the year we will also be farewelling Miss McRorie, as she takes up the position of Assistant Principal at The Rock Central School. We will miss Miss McRorie for her leadership and teaching within our school. The process to find a new Assistant Principal will take some time to complete. As a result I will be temporarily appointing a Relieving Assistant Principal for the first semester of next year. This will allow us to run a thorough selection process before we permanently appoint a teacher to the position. More information will be provided shortly. If you have any questions about this matter feel free to contact me at any time. A core focus at Oaklands Central School is equipping our students so that they develop excellent literacy and numeracy skills. We also support students to develop excellent “soft skills”, the skills that are vital to the modern workplace, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and citizenship. Skills such as these are highly visible among our student leaders in the SRC. Recently the SRC bought additional playground hammocks to allow students a chance to relax and recharge with their friends during breaks. It is exciting to see our students taking a proactive role in continuing to improve our school environment.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
With two and a half weeks left of the year, Oaklands Central is still very busy. Last week the secondary students demonstrated their learning for Semester 2 as they sat the Yearly Examinations. This week Stage 5 are learning about life in the workplace as they participate in the OCS Work Experience program over 5 consecutive days. The whole school joined together for a fabulous school disco at the end of week 6. This week we join with our senior primary students at the Yr 6 Graduation Dinner. This is a chance to celebrate the end of primary education for our Year 6 students and wish them the best as they move onto the next part of their educational journey. I would like to thank all the staff who have worked tirelessly in organising all these events for the benefit of our students. I would also like to congratulate Year 6 on a fabulous year and wish them all the best as they move into High School.
The last week of school for 2019 will also be busy. This year we are holding our Presentation Night on Tuesday 17th December. It is a night where we celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students and review our year at OCS. I would like to invite all of our parents, family, friends and community to join with us for this celebration. There will be a change of venue this year as we will be holding
Similarly, students have been actively using their creativity to paint beautiful murals on our primary toilet blocks. These murals enhance the look of the school. They also build justifiable pride in our school. Oaklands Central School has a beautiful environment to learn in and delivers great educational outcomes for our students. Our students are really shining their lights!
Peter Craft Principal
It is a shock to think we are nearly at the end of 2019! This year has been extremely busy and our students have been provided with a huge range of activities to take part in. All staff have been very busy over the past weeks writing reports so they are ready to go out in Week 10 and students have been busy putting in their best learning effort with a range of formal assessments. So I would like to take some time to thank everyone for their huge efforts at this very busy and tiring time of year!
Each Friday over the past three weeks , all students have been provided with the opportunity to access high quality gymnastics sessions with professional gymnastic
instructors. From what I saw all the students thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and learnt some great new skills.
This Friday we conclude our Kindergarten Orientation Program for our 2020 Kindergarten cohort. It has been a pleasure getting to know our new students and introducing them to the school setting. I would like to thank all the staff and students who went out of their way to make our future students feel so welcome. A special mention must go out to the K/1 students who welcomed the new kinders into our classroom and made sure they helped them in any way possible and also to Miss Murphy as she also assisted in running some of our sessions as she prepares to take on K/1 next year.
Another exciting activity happening this week is our Year 6 Graduation Dinner. Our Year 6 students are very excited to be heading to Mulwala on Wednesday night with some teachers and Year 5 students to celebrate the end of their primary school years. We look forward to celebrating with the students and hope they enjoy their special night. Thank you to all those who supported the carwash and icy cup fundraising events to cover the costs of this special night!
Our final Wellbeing Rewards Excursion is set for the last Wednesday of school. We hope students enjoy celebrating their success for the year and feel proud if they are given the opportunity to participate in this special day.
Finally, our Presentation Night will be on Tuesday 17th December. Please make sure you keep this night free and come along to celebrate our students learning, achievements and success from 2019.

Here is a rundown of the activities students in Secondary have been up to the last fortnight.

HEAD TEACHER NEWS
A big thank you goes to Greyd'n and Karen Davis for offering their time last Thursday week for a farm visit. The purpose was to introduce the curriculum topic of Sheep Husbandry and Wool Production to the Agriculture students. Time was spent interpreting wool staples and it's classification in microns and understanding sheep breed selection. A demonstration of crutching was held and enjoyed by all.
Mr Peter Longmire Agriculture Teacher
Congratulations to Connor and Jackson for their involvement in the Cows Create Careers program. This program aims to increase the awareness of dairy industry careers in a very hands-on way: students rear and care for calves at there own school. Connor and Jackson received a highly commendable achievement for their presentation of a 3D model of a calves digestive system. Well done boys.
A big thank to Nathan Simpson of Riverina Milk for his assistance. Peter Longmire Agriculture Teacher
I wish to thank the staff and associates who donated to the moustache money tin during November. A little fundraiser for a big cause in changing the face of men’s health.
