Nuts and bolts of Scriptural Financial blessing

Rom 12:2 And be not

conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed by

the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is

that good, and acceptable,

and perfect will of God.We must discard the

world’s views of

finance, and accept

God’s viewpoint.

Last time we were discussing the first point of the

Christian financial Triangle:

Work

It is clear that it is important for us to work;

but a proper attitude about work is just as

important as the work itself.

Lots of people lose job after job, because they

don't have a good attitude about work.

Page 5: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

5

Col 3:23-24 NIV Whatever you do, work at it with

all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for

men, since you know that you will receive an

inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the

Lord Christ you are serving.

Excellence must be our goal in all that we do.

God said, “Whatever you do, work

at it with all your heart.”

Our best effort is the least God is pleased with.

Page 6: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

6

Do not look to men to reward you for good work.

“It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Be patient. Don't be weary in well doing.

In due season God will reward your good effort.

Steady dependability is essential:

Don’t quit a job until you have a better one.

Ephes. 6:5-8 Servants, be obedient to them that

are your masters according to the flesh, with fear

and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto

Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as

the servants of Christ, doing the Will of God from

the heart; With good will doing service, as to the

Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever

good thing any man doeth, the same shall he

receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

Those of us who work for an employer, must learn

to humbly submit ourselves to their authority.

God will reward us for our humility.

Ephesians 5 18 And be not drunk with wine,

wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and

spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your

heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all

things unto God and the Father in the Name of our

Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to

another in the fear of God.

Page 9: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

9

Humility is difficult for most of us,

but it is key to God’s blessing.

1 Peter 5 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves

unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to

another, and be clothed with humility: for God

resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the

humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the

Mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due

time: 7 Casting all your care upon Him; for He

careth for you.

Luke 18 10-14 "Two men went to the Temple to pray.

One was a proud, self-righteous Pharisee, and the other

a cheating tax collector. The proud Pharisee ’prayed’

this prayer: ’Thank God, I am not a sinner like

everyone else, especially like that tax collector over

there! For I never cheat, I don’t commit adultery, I fast

twice a week, and I give to God a tenth of everything I

earn.’ "But the corrupt tax collector stood at a distance

and dared not even lift his eyes to Heaven as he prayed,

but beat upon his chest in sorrow, exclaiming, ’God, be

merciful to me, a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the

Pharisee, returned home forgiven! For the proud shall

be humbled, but the humble shall be honored."

11

Prov 22:29 NIV Do you see a man skilled in his

work? He will serve before kings; he will not

serve before obscure men.

We should choose a work that we

have a talent for, and then develop that talent

to a high level of skill.

There may be someone who is more skillful than

us, but we should always be the very best that we can

be.

There are no excuses for anything less than

our absolute best.

Page 12: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

12

Things that will hinder us from being

“a man skilled in his work.”

We choose a job for which we don’t have talent.

We will do low quality work, be frustrated, and

won’t make a good living.

Imagine if I were determined to be a

professional basketball player.

Connie and I would starve!

Choose a field of work for which

you have a God-given talent.

Page 13: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

13

So many young people ruin their lives before they

are old enough to choose a good career.

Page 14: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

14

Another hindrance in being “a man skilled in his work”

Lack of education or training needed to do the job

for which we are suited.

If you don’t have a high school diploma, take

classes and get your GED.

Take a technical course in your field of talent.

Search for a job on which you can get OJT.

Use the internet to learn the skills of your trade.

Do something to better yourself.

Page 15: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

15

A third hindrance can be laziness.

Don’t work hard enough.

Don’t work steadily or consistently enough.

Often late for work or even miss days

To be a good employee and keep a good job, we

have to be faithful every day -- be there and be

there on time; that’s first.

Then we have to do excellent work

and work hard.

Page 16: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

16

Fourthly: Fear -- of failure, of

responsibility, or of change.

People who are afraid to try never reach

their potential.

Joshua 1 9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong

and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be

thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee

whithersoever thou goest.

Joshua had just gotten a new job as leader of Israel.

The Lord came to him and said:

Page 17: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

17

Proverbs 15:15 (TLB) When a man is gloomy,

everything seems to go wrong; when he is cheerful,

everything seems right!

Not only must we be faithful and dependable,

Do excellent work,

And work with all our might,

But we must keep a

cheerful attitude.

We bring trouble on ourselves with our mindset.

Page 18: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

18

With whom would you rather work?

Page 19: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

19

Proverbs 17:22 (TLB) A

cheerful heart does good like

medicine, but a broken spirit

makes one sick.

Page 20: Nuts and bolts of christian finance 2

20

Proverbs 15 13 A merry

heart maketh a cheerful

countenance: but by

sorrow of the heart the

spirit is broken.

It’s not circumstances that

make us happy or gloomy.
