These everyday functions are controlled by the amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids that we consume- basically our macromolecules. We have to be aware that the consumption of our macromolecules is a delicate balance - leading to the overall health and nutrition of ourselves. Today, nutrition is a very important issue in American culture. More than ⅔ of American adults are considered to be obese and ⅓ children is obese. This and other nutritional issues increase healthcare costs for the country and decrease the quality of life for the individuals affected. Whether obese, or not, nearly all of us can improve our health by making better eating choices. In this assignment, you will be creating an infographic aimed at tackling one nutrition issue facing you or your peers while taking the idea of macromolecule consumption and their importance for our bodies (energy storage, cell structure, cell membrane, etc…) into consideration. Due:_________________________________________________________________ The Task: You will create an infographic poster to hang in the school to help your peers improve their nutrition choices. It will include 3 major parts: Claim: What Do You Know? You will make a claim about a specific nutrition issue and present an alternative option for the viewer. You will present the issue clearly and make your argument known. Evidence: How Do You Know This? You will present evidence backing your claim. This should be just facts. Include: ● Research from respectable sources including: ○ Negative effects of unhealthy choices ○ Recommendations for healthier choices ○ Additional information/statistics to inform reader about the problem ● At least one graph or pie chart to display information ● Background information about one or more organic molecules related to your issue Reasoning: Why Does Your Evidence Support Your Claim? ● Connect the evidence presented to your claim. ● Be sure to base your reasoning on sound scientific principles. ● Address potential arguments against your claim. Additional Requirements: ● Cite sources in MLA format ● Include at least 2 images in addition to your chart or graph You can choose any issue relevant to you or pick one from the following list: ● Soft drinks ● Fast food ● Trans Fats ● Fad diets ● Skipping breakfast/lunch ● Making healthy choices for school lunch This project is designed to persuade people to make better choices, so be sure to make it visually interesting and attractive.
