Door-to-Door Campaign
Meg Sgombick, Publicity, Florida Public Library
September is Library Card Sign Up Month and the Florida
Public Library (FPL) will be out in the community knocking
on doors to sign up new patrons, pass out brochures and
bookmarks on library programs and services and introduce
residents to library personnel. Members of FPL’s staff, board
of trustees and Friends of the Library will be canvassing
neighborhood streets on the evenings of September 19 and 20
and all day Saturday the 24th. Twelve teams, readily
identifiable with blue FPL shirts, caps and name badges will
be handing out neon pencils imprinted with
www.floridapubliclibrary.org and handy magnets listing
library hours. They will be able to give quick tips on
accessing library services through personal devices, too.
The teams will be visiting over thirty streets in the Village
of Florida, most within

library. Some teams will
carry mobile circulation
units from the Ramapo

which will enable them to

Florida Public Library staff members trained recently for a new outreach project: a door to door campaign on neighborhood streets.
Florida Public Library Board President Diane Arcieri, Director Madelyn Folino and Friends of the FPL President Caroline Califf prepare for September’s door-to-door campaign to sign up new library patrons.
On Thursday, September 22 RCLS will be closed so that staff can participate in a Professional Develop-ment Day. No deliveries will be made that day. Voice mails and e-mails may be left for staff members; how-ever, they may not be answered until the following day. ANSER staff will only be responding to emergen-cy calls.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and un-
derstanding.

Library Design
AL: The Scoop, Aug. 30
Episode five of American Libraries’ Dewey Decibel
podcast tackles a topic close to host Phil Morehart’s heart:
library architecture and design. As editor of the annual
Library Design Showcase, Morehart was primed and
perfectly suited to talk to
this episode’s three guests:
Brian Lee from Skidmore,
Owings, and Merrill;
Kimberly Bolan, the
library consultant behind
Kimberly Bolan and
Associates; and Fred Schlipf, professor emeritus at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
