There must be something in the water!
YSA Sailor of the Year.
During a recent committee meeting, representatives
from Yachting SA presented the 2014 Sailor of the Year
award to Peter Dunk (Sixth Element skipper). The
committee was honoured and delighted to witness the
acceptance of this prodigious award by the current
MCASA president. (Peter’s Facebook posting) Thank you to the SA Mosquito
association for putting my nomination in, especially Phillip
Pearce and Peter Hallsworth for doing it all. It’s a great
honour to be nominated by fellow sailors. Tops off the great
season we had last season. Thanks to Jaimee Broekers for dealing with all the sailing stuff,
Kirsten for being no1 crew; wouldn't have won nationals or states without her, and Kate Hyde for being an awesome
substitute crew for the Vic States win. (See following in MossieNet for the MCASA submission for Peter’s nomination.)
But wait, there’s more!!
Congratulations to Kirsten Thomas (Sixth Element crew) for being
nominated as a finalist in the 2015 Riverland Sportsperson of the Year for
her sailing and netball achievements.
Also to Peter Dunk (Sixth Element skipper) for not only being nominated
as a finalist, but also for being the
overall winner, and now holding the
title of 2015 Riverland Sportsperson of
the Year (amongst all his other
achievements).
Stalwart Lake Bonney YC member,
Dorothy Dunk was also a finalist in the
2015 Steve McFarlane Contribution to
Sport for all she has done for the Lake
Bonney Yacht Club.
We are being watched.
It was great to catch up with ‘Olde Mossie Salts’ Alec and Mary Stevens at the Wallaroo states. Alec is a life
member of MCASA and past owner of many a mossie, his last being Allan Pettman’s current boat, The
Ultimate. (Alec was proudly wearing the gold mossie tie-pin presented to him by the association in recognition
of his past dedication to the class.) He was excited to watch the racing, appreciating the quality and closeness
of the competition. He is very pleased with the strength of the class, the way it is being supported and
