A significant decline in road accident fa-talities this past Easter weekend con-
firmed a successful Arrive Alive campaign in Limpopo, the department of Roads and Transport said in a press statement this week.
The province lost 15 lives one of which was a pedestrian.
“While we regret the lost lives, we are encouraged by the general decline in the number of accidents recorded this Easter weekend as well as fatalities,” department spokesperson Joshua Kwapa said.
In 2011 during Easter long weekend the province lost 25 lives, while in 2012, 23 lives were lost. The Department said this year’s decline is an indication that its resolve to ensure safer roads has paid off.

The prov-ince’s traffic force was reinforced by our counterparts from the Road Traffic Manage-ment Cooperation ensuring high visibility on our major roads,” Kwapa continued.
He added that there was a high reduc-tion of traffic congestion this year which he said was in part because of the agreement the Department struck with bus companies travelling to Zion City, Moria.
The Department had an agreement with bus companies to delay their travelling from Gauteng to Moria. Busses started travelling
from midnight on Thursday 28 March. At the time they started their journey to Lim-popo light vehicles and minibus taxis had already made their way into the province which resulted in overall traffic reduction.
What the department, however couldn’t control, was the large volumes of migratory workers returning from Zimbabwe at the end of Easter Weekend.
On Monday SABC news reported heavy traffic volumes that were recorded on the N1 South between Musina and Makhado. These vehicles joined the stream of Zionists heading for Gauteng on the N1.
But the fact that school children are still on holiday offered some reprieve.
“It must be noted that this year’s Easter weekend did not coincide with the begin-ning of school holidays. This had a major im-pact in traffic reduction,” the department’s statement concluded.

Cops kept Limpopo clean this EasterPolice this week said high visibility and intensified operations led to the arrest of several suspects in Limpopo and also contributed to the province experienc-ing a relatively safe and quiet Easter pe-riod.
Members of the Police concentrated on normally high crime spot generators such as shebeens and taverns and man-aged to close down 25 illegal liquor out-lets. A total of 154 legal liquor premise owners were charged for contravening their license stipulations and 26 licensed liquor premises were closed. A total of 94 people were arrested for driving un-der the influence of liquor and a total of 1 457 fines were issued for the contra-vention of the liquor law.
Nineteen suspects were arrested for the possession of suspected stolen property and investigations to link these suspects to possible incidents of house-breaking and theft and even armed rob-bery are in the process. A further 11 people were arrested for the illegal pos-session of fire-arms and investigations to link them to possible incidents of armed robbery are ongoing.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lt.Gen. Simon Mpembe, expressed his satisfaction with the effectiveness of the police operations and also expressed his gratitude to the members of the com-munities for their support and co-oper-ation.
Just two days before Easter weekend, the Mahwelereng Shopping Center was offi-cially opened in Mokopane.
The ribbon ceremony was attended by the owners of the Mahwelereng Shopping Centre, Gerald Dros and his team as well as thousands of shoppers who came to buy at the new shopping centre with 32 new shops on a 13 165m² size premises.
Tlhalefi Mashamaite, Mayor of Mokga-lakwena, said the centre created a new re-tail offering that has previously been lacking in this community as well as hundreds of

horizons and stimulated the local economy. This is long overdue for the many residents who have over the years had to travel long distances to buy their favourite brands and have access to a good choice,” he said.
Elana Venter, the Mahwelereng Shop-ping Centre office manager, said the R90-million building project which start-ed on the 01 March 2012 has created 450 permanent jobs for local community members.

Compass Academy of Learning in co-operation with LectorSA and Bright Star recently held a Develop-ment Week for Grade 9 learners at the RET Centre in Mokopane. The learners were sponsored to the amount of R3500 each, which enabled them to at-tend the Destiny Week.
According to Daleen Janse van Rensburg from LectorSA they target Grade 9 learners and plan to progress them into the JrTukkie project at the Univer-sity of Pretoria during their Grade 10 academic year.
During the week - hosted by Destiny Alive Church – the 22 learners from 11 schools in the Mogalakwe-na area work on Lab-on-line, a cloud hosted reading solution developed by LectorSA.
LectorSA is a result of collaborated research and development by selected countries over 40 years. Through on-going research better and more efficient ways to improve reading in today’s environment have been discovered and developed.
Lab-on-line is based on 30 years’ research and is proven to have increased reading skills development at the University of Pretoria’s JrTukkie Week.
Bright Star aims to develop personal and relation-ship skills to aid people to live their lives excellently and to be more effective leaders. The program is widely welcomed by leaders as a development tool for current and future generations.
At the completion of the Bright Star Course the learners were able to:• Take responsibility for their decisions in life;• Be aware of their own values and how it influ-ences their decisions and life;• Decide on their self-worth and self-respect;• Know how to prioritize action plans to achieve their life-purpose;• Understand different behavioural styles;
Shaping better futures for learners• Draw on methods to control their emotions;• Communicate for understanding;• Keep arguments out of disagreements;• Establish personal boundaries;• Do strategic planning;• Be good role models;• Understand team dynamics and identify where they are currently in the team;• Use skills to motivate others;• Gain skills to empower the team.
Because of the saying that “first impres-sions last the longest” and the belief that the entrance to a town tells you a lot about that town and its residents, the Lephalale Development Forum (LDF) launched an ex-citing new project to create attractive en-trances to Lephalale.
“The purpose is to capitalise on what the town and its surroundings have to offer visi-tors by making sure that it is depicted in the entrances to the town,” says LDF co-ordinator Jacques Snyman.
The LDF is requesting local businesses to indicate their interest in this project by sending the required information to the email address provided at the end of this article.
Interested parties will be invited to a brief-ing session where the details of the project will be shared.
The procurement process that will be fol-lowed will be designed by the key stakehold-ers and all the normal compliance require-ments will be adhered to.
The appointed contractor will be responsi-ble for all the work, from design to completion of developing three entrances to Lephalale.
One of the criteria of adjudication for this project will be local socio-economic devel-opment. Joint ventures are also welcome to indicate their interest, and if there are busi-nesses or stakeholders in the area that would like to get involved by donating some of the hardware, plants and other materials that will be required to beautify the town entrances, this will be welcomed.
All interested parties are requested to indicate their interest by sending the follow-ing information to Jacques Snyman: Submit
LDF plans for a warmer welcome to Lephalale
the name of the business or joint venture, the name of a contact person, a contact tele-phone number, an e-mail address, and a brief summary indicating why the business or joint venture is interested in the project.
All interested parties will be informed via email of the time, date and venue of the briefing session to be held.
The required information must be submit-ted to [email protected] in electronic format no later than 12:00 on Thursday 25 April 2013.
What is the LDF?The LDF was formed about four years ago by key stakeholders in the Lepahlale area to prioritise, drive and facilitate the delivery of an integrated socio-economic development approach in the greater Lephalale area. The vision of the LDF is the dynamic creation and unlocking of economic poten-tial from the mining, energy, petrochemi-cal and other industries in the area, for the benefit of all our communities. One of the key success factors which enabled the LDF to be as successful as it has been since its inception, is the fact that it is a neutral party and it is therefore able to fa-cilitate discussions among all stakeholders. The initial focus of the forum was on driving the development of infrastructure projects required in the area due to the rapid growth that was experienced. The focus has now shifted to include skills development, basic medical care and other community needs based projects.

‘ANC cannot hijack tenders’ - DAThe DA in Limpopo this week an-nounced that it will urge National Treasury to inform the Limpopo ANC that it does not have the mandate to announce how government tenders will be awarded in the province.
This follows reports indicating that the Limpopo ANC has removed pow-ers to allocate tenders from Premier Cassel Mathale.
The DA said it is concerned that government functions will now be carried out at the ANC Limpopo head-quarters and not through legal pro-cesses in government.
“The allocation of tenders must be done by professional officials in gov-ernment who will be led by principles of transparency and fairness. Giv-ing the ANC’s interim provincial Task Team powers to allocate government tenders will not solve the problem,” warned the provincial DA leader De-siree van der Walt.
She explained that the danger ex-ists that the new ANC Provincial Task Team will now simply award tenders to businesses who support their fac-tion.
“The root of the problem in Lim-popo is that the ANC and not pro-fessionals in government have been allocating tenders for corrupt pur-poses for some years now,” she continued.
While Premier Mathale should be removed from office for the col-lapse of delivery in Limpopo he has overseen, he cannot be replaced by more of the same.
“The rule of law clearly stipulates that there has to be a separation between the state and the party. We cannot have a situation where government decisions are taken by party apparatchiks who are ac-countable to the party and not the electorate,” Van der Walt concluded.
The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in the Limpopo has called upon the leadership of the ANC in the province to embark on a clean-up campaign of local gov-ernment in Limpopo.
The union said it is shocked by the ongoing corruption in municipalities in Limpopo. SAMWU alleges that corruption is handled with kid gloves in municipali-ties and that there is a perception that it is normal for municipal officials to engage in cor-rupt activities.
The union cites an example of alleged cor-ruption where a private developer acquired un-serviced land at the market value of R8 million only to sell it to the department of co-operative governance at R52 million.
“We have been pleading with the HAWKS to act on matters of corruption which we con-tinue to report to them on an ongoing basis, we now appeal to the public protector to look into these matters, as it is clear that the public protectors’ office is the only office that is seri-ous about fighting corruption,” the union said in a statement on Monday.
Workers fed-up with corruptionIn the Mopani district municipality, SAM-
WU alleges that municipal management and councilors are awarding sanitation tenders to themselves.
Here various directors within the munici-pality were arrested on charges of fraud and corruption and were released on bail rang-ing from R50 000 to R200 000 while criminal cases are heard in court but no internal action was ever taken against them by the municipal-ity.
At the Blouberg municipality the council has suspended the Municipal Manager who then appealed to the Labour Court which dis-missed his application.
SAMWU members are upset over the fact that this manager is still at the municipality despite his dismissal.
“What is astonishing is that the Mayor filled an affidavit in support of the Municipal Manager in defiance of the Council resolution. It is a huge problem when a Mayor deviates from regulations and claims to be enjoying support from the National leadership of the ruling party,” SAMWU’s statement reads.

chauffeur hom in ‘n Lexus LS600h rondry.

Of altans, so redeneer baie mense.
In Ps. 119:41 word ’n baie mooi voorbeeld van Bybelse liefde gegee: “Bewys aan my u troue liefde, Here, red my volgens u gebooie.” God se liefde is ’n werk-woord.
Hierdie is egter nie geldige ver-skonings nie (vgl. Luk. 9:26 en Matt. 10:28). Daardie uitkoms is Je-sus Christus.
