If she is able to dunk during a game shewouldjoinanelitelistofwomen’splayers.Onlyseven females have previously dunked in a game. WestVirginia’sGeorgeannWellswasthefirst,doingit twice in 1984. SEEKINGSEVENWith their WNIT appearance in 2012, the Cowgirls extended their school-record string of postseason appearances to six. The run began with NCAA Tour-nament berths in 2007 and 2008. The 2009 cam-paign resulted in a WNIT showing and was followed by a NCAA berth in 2010 and a WNIT run in 2011.
STATISTICALLYSPEAKINGLastyear,TiffanyBiasfinishedtheseasonrankedseventhnationallyinassistsat6.7pergame.Heraverage was an OSU sophomore record and marked thethirdtimeinthelastfouryearsanOSUpointguardhasrankedinthetop10nationallyinthecategory.AndreaRileyfinished10thinthecountrywith her 6.0 assists per game in 2009. Onegameintothe2011-12season,JimLittelltookovertheOklahomaStatewomen’sbasketballprogramunderunthinkable circumstances and admirably guided the Cowgirls through the most trying season in program history.
FollowingthetragicdeathsofheadcoachKurtBudkeandassistantcoachMirandaSernaonNov.17,LittellassumedhiscurrentroleanddirectedtheCowgirlstothe11th20-winseasoninprogramhistoryandsawhissquadextendits school-record string of postseason appearances to six in a row.
Fortheprevioussixyears,LittellhadservedasOSU’sassociateheadcoachandwasanintegralpartintheresur-gence of the Cowgirl program.
Sandwiched in between OSU’s Top 25 triumphs was a down-to-the-wire Bedlam victory over Oklahoma, which snapped the Cowgirls’ eight-game losing streak against their in-state rivals. In the midst of a four-game losing streak,LittellralliedtheCowgirlswiththreeconsecutivevictoriestoclosetheregularseasonandprimethesquadfor its postseason run.
Individually,Littell’sfirstcampaignresultedinapairofplayersearningpostseasonrecognitionwithTiffanyBiasgarnering second-team All-Big 12 honors and Liz Donohoe being named the league’s freshman of the year.
Asassociateheadcoach,hewasinstrumentalintheCowgirlsproducingthenation’slargestturnaroundandtheprogram’sfirstNCAATournamentberthinmorethanadecadein2007.HealsohelpedOSUtoNCAAberthsin2008and 2010 as well as WNIT appearances in in 2009 and 2011.
PriortohismovetotheDivisionIlevel,Littellconstructedahalloffamecareerduringhis14-yeartenureatSewardCounty (Kan.) Community College,
A2009inducteeintotheNationalJuniorCollegeAthleticAssociationHallofFame,Littellcompiledaneye-poppingset of numbers at his former post as the Lady Saints won 87 percent of their games, tallying a 418-61 ledger and producingnineJayhawkWestConferencetitlesunderhisguidance.Overall,Littellownsa628-117markasaheadcoach.
The most impressive number of all may have come in the form of Seward County’s home record in his 14 seasons. From1995-2004,theLadySaintsdidnotloseahomegame,postinga135-gamewinningstreakinsidetheSCCCActivitiesCentertosettheNJCAAnationalrecord.Duringthecourseofhisfinal13seasons,Littell’ssquadswon99percent of their home contests, producing an astounding record of 189-2.
PriortohisrunatSewardCounty,LittellspentoneseasonatGardenPlainsHighSchool,postinga21-3mark.Ashead coach at Friends University from 1983-88, he produced a 95-39 record and a pair of conference champion-ships. He also served as the assistant men’s coach at Cameron (Okla.) University from 1988-89.
