The citizens of Navi Mumbai claim that

the pet’s corner in-troduced by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is not getting much re-sponse from the animal owners and hardly a few of them are actually us-ing the facility.

The facility has been introduced by the civic body with an aim to avoid defecation by the pets on roads and

Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt

launched ‘Samarpan’, a rehab centre for alco-hol & drug de-addiction near Pune. The Guest of Honour was Narendra A. Baldota, who is the CMD of Baldota Group. Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and Narendra A. Baldota cut the ribbon for the official launch. This is a platform for those suffering from mental health and addic-tion issues who usually find themselves unable to cope with the chal-lenges that life throws at them and tend to retreat into their own private shell. This withdrawal hugely affects social skills, professional per-formance and places tremendous strain on family ties. Considering the size of India and the diversity in its popula-tion clubbed with the urgent need for mental health, there is an ur-gent need for a well-structured and well-funded institution like Samarpan, to interject at this time and bring the desirable change to the extent possible said the officials present during the launch

Dr. Azhar Hakim, a well noted Psychothera-pist shared the idea of the inception of Samar-pan (surrender) and the wrap-around services & holistic healing that would be offered to the clients, as part of this initiative. Martin Peters gave the information regarding the setting up of a World Class Rehab Program. In this 28-day program focused on ad-diction recovery, clients will have to stay at the rehab centre near Pune where they will recover in a modern & spacious setting.

Samarpan is built in a colonial style of archi-

tecture reminding you of Scottish countryside, offering you all modern amenities and yet locat-ed in a very scenic envi-ronment, away from the hustle bustle of the city.

Mahesh Bhatt said, “The dedication towards Samarpan is a new light of hope. Even after reaching the heights of success and fame, I felt a sense of emptiness, and I was addicted to al-cohol. But one day when my second daughter Shaheen was born, I re-turned home after drink-ing alcohol. I remember I took my daughter in my arms, she turned her back because my mouth was smelling of alco-hol. And that one mo-ment changed my life. It's been 34 years since

then, and I haven't had a sip of alcohol. When I was shooting for the film Daddy, I, for once, felt that I should drink alcohol, no one would know. But then a voice came from inside that you would lie to the world, to that little girl, but how would you tell a lie to yourself. There-fore, to get rid of alco-hol, you have to take steps yourself, and have a strong intention. I am very happy that Nar-endra Baldota started a centre like Samarpan.”

He further added, “Dr.Rahul Bajpai, the COO of Samarpan, in-vited me and Pooja to inaugurate this program not because we are ce-lebrities but because

we have suffered from the addiction and re-covered. A pearl shines only through pain. I congratulate all the peo-ple associated with it for launching a facility like Samarpan.”

Pooja Bhatt men-tioned, “Generally peo-ple introduce me as an actress, filmmaker and activist. But I want to say that people should say that Pooja Bhatt has recovered from alcohol addiction. People re-member me because of the film Daddy in which I played a girl whose father was an alcoholic. In real life, a message from my father Mahesh Bhatt changed my life. I was an alcoholic and Bhatt Saheb messaged me if you love me then

you should love your-self. That day I became emotional and I gave up alcohol.”

She further said, “I accepted the habit of drinking alcohol but people do not do it. Dur-ing the Covid period, the cases of beating, insult-ing each other, mental health, depression, sui-cide had increased. The way Sushant Singh Ra-jput's case was shown, people were scared that if we ask for help, we would be considered as a criminal. There is a need for a centre like Samarpan today. If you are an alcoholic then you are not a criminal. Liquor habit is actually

The imposition of Service Tax after every meal at restaurants is not go-

ing down well with the diners. Most of the restaurants and fine dine places charge ten percent of service charge. However, according to the law, the ful-filment of the service charge is solely a choice of consumer and it is upon their willingness to pay it. However, some of the restaurants in Navi Mumbai have been charging the service tax despite asked to ignore by the residents.

As per law, Service Tax has been phased out after the introduction of GST and it is not mandatory for the customers to pay it. However, the Ser-vice Charge is still applicable and res-taurants can make an appeal in front of the costumers.

“I know it isn’t mandatory and one cannot force you to pay the service charge, yet some of the restaurants in Navi Mumbai and South Mumbai charge heavily under the name of ser-

On special occasions, the restau-rants have offers and free giveaways, and along with it comes the service charge, which people tend to ignore af-ter getting unusual service.

“We inform people before making the bill that we have service charge at our restaurants, and if the customer de-nies, we remove it before making the final bill. It is also restaurant staff’s duty to let people know first to avoid chaos”, said one of the staff members from Agent Jack, Vashi.

With the temperature soaring high, birds and animals liv-

ing in urban concrete jungles start facing heat-related issues, most commonly dehydration which often leads to their unfortunate death.

There are no statistics to point out the grim situation the strays and birds face during summer. The se-verely parched animals in summer are left alone and have to hunt for drinking water. This makes them vulnerable to heat related issues resulting in death due to dehydra-tion in animals, particularly birds- a heart wrenching sight which we see every summer across the country.

As the mercury level rises, NGOs and animal activists begin their annual campaign of placing water bowls. While the campaign has been around for long, ironically, not many come forward and place a simple bowl filled with water for the birds at home or society gates.

Cities and towns have holding ponds but not all birds and strays are near to the resource. The ones which are far away cannot go to the source and drink water like human beings. Hence, it becomes our re-

sponsibility to come forward and do the simple act of humanity by plac-ing a bowl of water.

The act is simple and takes hard-ly a few minutes in a day with mini-mal effort. One needs to place any

wide-open bowl filled with water making it easy for birds and strays. This simple gesture can help in saving the birds and animals from dehydration. This habit can also be inculcated amongst the children, for after all, this is all about compassion and sensitivity. An act of filling a bowl with clean water to help some-one quench thirst has the power to bring about a change in one’s out-look. Let us help our winged birds and animals to hydrate themselves in the scorching heat and twitter around in peace.

An act of compassion

The upcoming sea-son of the Indian

Premier League (IPL) is going to take place in India after two years, and more than that, it has arrived back in Navi Mumbai after ten years. The hype of IPL is al-ready high in the city and the residents are eagerly waiting to spend on the tickets to watch the matches live in DY Patil Stadium, which is one of the hosts for the IPL.

“In the last IPL sea-son that took place in India in 2019, the tickets were sold only on the online platform. Book My Show was the only ticketing partner at that time. There is a huge craze always and tickets run out of availability”, said Ujjwal Mhatre, Venue Management Team, Book My Show.

The tickets are most-ly expected to be out for sale on multiple online platforms and are ex-pected to range from a minimum of eight hun-dred rupees to as high as eight thousand rupees, depending on the seats.

The tickets for the cor-porate box are expected to be available between twelve thousand rupees

to thirty thousand ru-pees.

“IPL is the only part of cricket I follow and it always excites me. More than half of the season will be played in Mum-bai and Navi Mumbai. Even if the rates stay high, I would still buy the ticket”, said Hardik Patel, a resident.

As there are restric-tions on the occupancy of the stadium, the de-mand for the tickets is expected to rise with immediate effect after release. Navi Mumbai has over ten lakhs popu-lation and the available seats for IPL in DY Patil

Stadium would be twen-ty-two thousand, which will create a tight mar-ket for ticket sales.

“According to the conditions, the tickets may easily sell out in a single day and at least for half of the season, looking at the hunger of people for IPL”, said Gaurav Anand, a club level cricketer.
