This year has flown by and we are nearly at the end of the 2015 academic year at Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn. This has been a year of major change with the ownership of the School been transferred to Tyndale Christian School. The transition went smoothly, with our students, parents and staff embracing the transfer to Tyndale. I want to thank our students, parents and staff for your support of this new journey under Tyndale knowing that this year set the foundation for a great future for the School.

I will remember this year for the many excursions, incursions, sporting events, school sport days, music productions and a personal favourite, Family Fun Day. We were extremely busy but engaged in these events complementing our classroom learning. I want to say to our staff – brilliant work creating these opportunities for our students.

I will remember this year for the sadness with the passing of Leila

Baartse-Harkin. Dear Leila – Rest in Peace. We miss your energy and zest for life. We lost one of our founding pastors, Ps Heather McMaster after battling with her health for an extended period of time. We are grateful for this pioneering spirit.

I will remember this year for the capital investment by Tyndale in our School that will benefit our students into the future. The Gymnasium upgrade with new air conditioning, new gardens area in front of Main Administration, a new Early Learning Centre and redeveloped play areas at Chapel Street. Amazing progress!

I will remember this year working with the Tyndale Leadership Team and Board of Governors witnessing their sincere commitment to a successful Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn.

I will remember this year for the support I received from students, parents and staff in my role as Principal. I enjoyed

my year at Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn. I am leaving the School with a heavy heart as this School Community added value to my life. Thank from the bottom of my heart for your prayers, love and support.

I will remember this year working with a great team – our staff. Thank you to the Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn staff for making me part of your team. I will remember you as friends not justas colleagues. I have never seen so much tenacity and commitment to ensure success for a School. Dear friends you are part of a team re-pioneering this School. You are simply amazing. I will truly miss you!

May God bless Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn!

TRIATHLON SuCCESS FOR ELIzABETHElizabeth Briggs (Year 6) started training with Mr Dan Harbottle and the School’s Triathlon team when it started back in August. Up until this point Elizabeth had participated in many sports but never found one that she was completely passionate about. When she started the triathlon training at School she finally found a sport she loves and has found great enjoyment in. This weekend Elizabeth and her Year 6 teacher Mr Jason Schulz competed in the Franklin Island Triathlon in Victor Harbor.

Out of the 46 competitors aged 12 and above Mr Jason Schulz came in at 19th and

Elizabeth came in at 29th overall. Elizabeth came in at 9th place out of 20 people in the women’s category.

It was a beautiful day in a family friendly sporting environment down in Victor. Thank you Mr Dan Harbottle for all of his time and effort that he has put into training our students in the triathlon squad! You have been a very positive Christian role model for Elizabeth and all of the other team members. He trains and coaches all the Students on the team with patience and lots of encouragement. There is always a lot of laughs and fun in among the vigorous training sessions!

FINAL BuDDIES FOR 2015In the final week of buddies the Year 2/8 class enjoyed learning about how the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. The students then went on to create their own beautiful Gabriel newspaper Angels, dressing up a Year 2 student.

The Reception class decorated Christmas biscuits with their buddies. Year 1 and 3 classes enjoyed some fitness activities with their buddies outside. The Year 4 class went to the Art room and worked on some art activities. The Reception/Year 1 class made a Christmas card for their mum and dad and made decorations for the classroom Christmas tree.

We have all really enjoyed being buddies this year and look forward to building on the program even more in 2016!

On Thursday 26 November we went to Monarto Zoo. We loved the bus trip and when we got there, we followed the walking trails and spotted some meerkats along the way. We also saw the chimpanzees eating and relaxing in their beautiful big enclosure. After our lunch, we got back on the bus and went on a Safari Tour of the zoo. The animals

were amazing and the giraffes even came right up to the windows to say ‘hello’! Lots of Mums and Dads came along to share our adventure and we all had a fantastic day.

THE ‘RED HEN’ A NEW ExPERIENCE FOR MANY STuDENTSOn Thursday 19 November the Reception/1, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 10 Blue classes were blessed to go for a train ride on a “Red Hen” from Strathalbyn to Mount Barker.

It was a new experience for many of the children and it brought back memories for some of us “oldies”. The Year 1 class sat with their buddies from Year 10 and had lots of fun finding various landmarks, signs, and wildlife and varying landscapes along the way.

On Monday 30 November our Year 1 and Year 2 students set off to the city for an end of year excursion to Bounce! We jumped, flipped, face planted, twirled, balanced, star jumped and of course bounced our way through the day. It was so much fun! Many students had been before, but for others it was a very special first time experience. What a great way to celebrate the end of a jam-packed year!

Thank you to Michelle for driving us. Enjoy some of our photo highlights.

TYNDALE PuPPETEERSOn Wednesday 18 November the ‘Tyndale Puppeteers’ came to visit from Salisbury East. The Puppeteers presented a number of funny and lively items with a Christmas theme and they kept us well entertained.

It was a great way to get that Christmassy feeling going, and everybody enjoyed the performance.

PRIMARY SWIMMINGPrimary swimming lessons happened last week and it was a mixture of weather throughout the whole week, but overall the students enjoyed it. Thank you to Mrs Brooks for organising it and also to the Year 10 students that helped out with the classes.

YEAR 4/5 BOYS & GIRLSIt was a fantastic all-round effort by the students that attended the carnival. It was a challenging day in the 36 degree heat. The boys worked hard and showed tremendous character, playing all 7 games without a rest. The boys were rewarded with a win in the last game which ended the day on a high. Well done to Kobi Hutchinson, Jake Hoobin, Luke Johnson and Elijah Spencer. Special thanks needs to go to Hayden from Salisbury East for filling in. The girls enjoyed two wins which lifted their spirits and kept them fighting right to the end. Well done to those involved especially Bethany Vandemeulengraaf (Yr 11) for coaching and parent helpers Deb Connor and Tracey Falzon.

YEAR 6/7 GIRLSIt was a steep learning curve during the first game for the predominantly netball team. They soon picked up the idea of moving with the ball and bouncing. Well done Taryn for assisting in getting the rest of the team on side. Things began to progress rather smoothly from there with many good plays by all students who showed great teamwork and tenacity to get the job done in each game.We had 2 wins (against some high profile schools) and a draw, as well as 3

losses during the day. The team should be very proud of their effort. Well done girls.A huge Thank you to Mr Bruce Cameron and Mrs Deb Connor for helping out on the day in coaching and scoring.

YEAR 6/7 BOYSCompared to the previous days things cooled down at the basketball for the 6/7 boys. Many strong efforts from the boys against some very tall and competitive sides including teams with state and district basketball players. The boys produced great achievements this included: Wins against Kings Baptist, Temple Mile End Temple ParalowieIt was a lot of basketball for one day but all the boys represented Tyndale with pride. Well done boys!A huge Thank you to Jordan Walker (Year 10) for coaching the boys on the day and helping to train them up to be successful. Great effort.

In Week 5 the Year 2 class with their parents, brothers, sisters and Grandparents gathered after school in the Auditorium to enjoy Pizza and a good old fashioned Slide Night. Each student had the opportunity to share some memories and photos of their childhood so far. It was a great night and the students showed great courage speaking to an audience. It was wonderful to have so many members of our class community there.

The Year 3’s travelled down to Adelaide to increase their knowledge of bike safety. The students really enjoyed the atmosphere and the practical aspect of the training. They were exposed to the many different hazards on our roads and it gave

them an awareness of the different situations they could face.

National Geaographic and Discovery Channel look out! Last Monday our intrepid Year 10 photographers went on a field trip to Monarto Zoo and as a result produced some amazing photographs. The class began the day with an extended bus tour of the zoo grounds and whilst not all the wildlife was keen to be captured on camera, the students gained some good shots along with the opportunity to practice shooting through glass. The highlight of the extended tour was a stop at the rhino enclosure for a chance to photograph one of Monartos new edition, a baby white rhino (who sadly was still a little camera shy). After a quick lunch, students enjoyed getting up close and personal with the non carnivores as they were taken

out in small groups in one of Monarto’s vehicles to get close shots of the animals of their choice. Whilst each group was out with their guide, the rest of the class took some great shots of Monartos chimpanzee troupe.

Like most most photographic field trips, some great shots were taken and some amazing shots were almost taken, but overall the students found it a worthwhile and dwarfing experience that they all believe has helped to enhance their technical and compositional photographic skills.

In week 6 of this term, The Year 9 Rite Journey boys and I went for a fishing trip down to Port Noarlunga. The main objectives of the trip was to squeeze in some quality bonding time amongst the boys and reel in some whoppa fish. While the fisherman banter between the fella’s was top notch, the fish weren’t quite as spectacular. We reeled in a puffer and two weird looking slimy blue fish, which looked potential poisonous. We did the humane thing a pegged them back into the deep blue. Besides fishing, we got a chance to play some good old fashioned beach cricket and Frisbee on the beach. We also got to sample some of the local delicacies at the bakery. The kransky got one thumbs up out of two. It was a great day. Well done boys on a terrific year.

BOYS FINISH WITH A FISHING TRIP

The Year 9 Rite Journey Graduation was a fantastic night had by all.

The girls looked beautiful, the boys scrubbed up alright and Mr McGowan even wore a suit for the occasion! The auditorium was decorated beautifully by the girls, including a red carpet and photo booth of course!

Miss Sih made a photo montage of highlights from the year, which was fun to look back on. The students prepared reflective, sincere and thoughtful speeches which were delivered with a few tears. It was a really special night. We all shared a delicious supper together afterwards.

Thank you to all of the friends, family and mentors who attended the evening.

The students really appreciated your presence.
