Parent Association (PA) Committee NominationsEvery parent of pupils attending the School are automatically deemed to be Members of the PA. However, the PA Committee consists of elected members of the PA of which there should be ideally two representatives from each section of the School (Early Years, TIS Primary, ST Primary, TIS Secondary, ST Secondary). It is time to elect the PA Committee for this year and we welcome any nominations.
Please note that those nominated must abide by the aims of the PA, which are:
1. To support the school in furthering its Mission and Vision of ‘A United World At Peace – Through Education’.2. To provide support for school events, activities, trips and inter-school competitions.3. To provide support to parents of new students joining Tenby Schools.4. To support school activities and fund raising for charities.5. To encourage participation in parents’ meetings and activities organised by the schools.6. To facilitate contact between parents and staff as a means of strengthening the school community and enhancing communication.7. To provide a means whereby the school leadership may be kept abreast of the views of parents and feedback to the parent body.8. To encourage liaison between Sekolah Tenby and Tenby International School.
In addition, PA Committee members must be available to attend 2 - 3 meetings a term and have time to work behind the scenes with any preparation or organisation required for supporting school activities/events. This may include several additional meetings with the team to plan initiatives.
If you are interested in being a nominee, please fill in the PA Nomination Form (attached) and return it via e-mail to [email protected] by Friday 13th January, 12:00hrs (noon). Please include a passport photograph of yourself. Parents may also collect a copy of the PA Nomination Form from Reception.
We will publish the nominees in the Newsletter on Friday 20th January and if there are no objections received by Tuesday 24th January, we will put the nominees names to a vote if there are more than the number of representa-tives required. Details of any voting will be provided later.
The PA Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday 4th February at 10:00hrs in the Auditorium. All parents are welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing you there.
ENGAGE Parent PortalPlease remember that the ENGAGE Parent Portal is the main form of communication from the School. We will be using this platform to book CCAs, book meeting slots, send home notices, reminders, letters, homework details and Newsletters. Please ensure that you have access to this and check frequently. Parents should receive an e-mail alert when a notice from the School has been received via the Portal.
No E-Mail, Username & Password? There are several parents who have not given us their e-mail address to enable us to set up a username and password. Others have asked if we can set up the account with their child’s e-mail to which we have declined as the portal is for parents, not students. There are many free e-mail accounts that can be opened through Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo to name a few. Therefore, please let us know your e-mail address so that access to the portal can be set up immediately. Alternatively, we can set up an e-mail account for you so that you can access the portal. Please contact Reception or the IT Department for more information.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)CCAs begin on Friday 13th January. If you have not already booked your child(ren)’s CCAs via the ENGAGE Parent Portal by Saturday 7th January you will need to contact Mr. Foo (Head of Student Affairs) via e-mail: [email protected].
If you have selected CCAs that require payment, you should have received a confirmation notice via the ENGAGE Parent Portal. Payment can then be made via the Accounts Department from Monday 9th January. Payment should be made by Friday 13th January.
Updated Parent/Student HandbookThis updated version has been published on the Parent Portal earlier this week. Please take a few minutes to peruse this document to keep abreast of School expectations and operational matters. It would be useful to keep a copy for reference in future.
Community Code of ConductThe Community Code of Conduct will be distributed to Sekolah Tenby students next week. We would be grateful if parents could find the time to go through this with their child(ren) and sign to acknowledge that they have read the expectations.
SAFE STEPS Road Safety Awareness – Final DriveWe will be conducting two more road safety drives at Dr. Seenivasagam Park where our student leaders will conduct sessions on bicycle and pedestrian safety. The first session will take place on Saturday 21st January where Tenby secondary students will be invited to attend. The second session will be extended to local secondary schools on Saturday 25th February.

Focus for this year
Our focus this year will be in line with the School’s Mission Point 1 ‘To enable students to achieve their full potential for academic excellence and achievements in sports and arts as well as promote better integration amongst the school community. The Leadership Team will be reviewing assessment and putting into place a revised, more rigorous system for tracking (half-termly tracking) to aid with raising student achievement. With this, the reporting and tracking system will be revised and we will keep you informed of these updates. Teachers teach their students to learn all they can so they have options in life. One's potential is not set in stone at birth but it has to develop and change with increased knowledge and understanding. The role of teachers in Sekolah Tenby is to help students in the process of this discovery, and we do expect teachers to set an
example. We have shared the story of Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson with all Sekolah Tenby teachers during the staff meeting on the 30th December 2016. When the situation changes, this story explains how these characters react to the situation differently. That’s the same principles we should adopt in our life to deal with change. How does this story fit into the world of education particularly in Sekolah Tenby? Change happens with technology leading the way in the 21st century, teachers must realise that their teaching methods must keep up as well. Gone are the days of looking information up in a hardbound encyclopaedia. Teachers must keep up with new ways to present information, make assignments meaningful, evaluate for real learning, and use data in their decision making. Teachers should look at change as an opportunity for growth and learning. Revised KSSR and KSSM curriculum The Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 maps out the roadmap to build and efficient education system that features universal access all the way through to secondary education. All primary and secondary schools nationwide in 2017 will come under the newly revised curricula – Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR) and Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM). Teachers in Sekolah Tenby were undergoing training courses on KSSR and KSSM by the Ministry of Education in 2016. Parents who attended the Standard 6 Transition Day on the 23rd November 2016 were given a briefing regarding the revised curriculum. The curriculum will stress on student-centered and differentiated teaching, but it will have a greater emphasis on problem-based and project-based work. Students in Standard 1 and Form 1 are to learn an additional language starting with Chinese and students will have to participate in community service under Islamic Education and Moral Education. In Sekolah Tenby Ipoh, all students in Standard 2 to Standard 6 will have the opportunity to learn Chinese language according to their levels – advanced or beginner level. Recommended textbooks for Chinese Language for advanced students will be specified by the subject teachers during the first week of school and this information will be pasted onto the students’ planners. Dual Language Programme (DLP) Sekolah Tenby has been given the approval to teach Mathematics and Science in English under the Dual Language Programme (DLP) at three entry points (Standard 1, Standard 4 and Form 1) from 2016 onwards. We are the only private school in Perak to be given this approval. Only 300 schools across Malaysia have been selected to participate in the programme. The DLP at Sekolah Tenby will be rolled out in 2017 according to the schedule below:
Besides strengthening the English Language, we want to emphasise that Sekolah Tenby plays the role of upholding and developing the Malay language. The importance of Malay Language as the country’s official language is indisputable and the strongest unifying factor irrespective of race or religion, therefore all students need to learn and master the use of the Malay language properly. Happy New Year! A very warm welcome indeed to all our parents and children for this new and exciting
academic term.
The first day in school at TEYCI started off with happy faces of children coming back to school. We have
opened another Toddler class (Toddler M). Most of the new children have adapted well to their new
environment and their teachers very quickly. Upon settling the children in, the parents were ushered to the
hall for an orientation session which gave them a good understanding of the child’s learning journey at
Tenby.
The children will now embark on the new theme in IPC for this term.

News from Primary
Mathematics is a subject where you learn best by tackling problems/challenges. Every week, a
new challenge will be posted here for you to pit your wits against.
We invite you to have a go at solving it. If you get stuck, keep trying, and do go away and come
back later- often, you will find that you have a better idea on your second, third or even fourth
attempt.
