FOOTBALL v Skippers Hill Report written by Aaron Y6 On Wednesday 29th November, Sacred Heart School played a Football match against Skippers Hill. In the first half we pushed up our attack and with great passing from the team, William managed to score the first goal of the match. We kept pushing forward but they pushed us back, but that didn’t keep us from scoring another goal. After a while with our strong attack and great

passing Jack also managed to slip in 2 more goals. The end score for the first half was 3-0 to us. In the second half the other team was under a lot of pressure and they made a stronger defence and managed to get the ball into our half of the pitch but with continued strong defence and tackling we didn’t let them score a goal. Our attack continued to get stronger and we put them under more pressure and Jack and Hugh scored the last 2 goals. A few moments later the match was finally finished making it 5-0 to us. We would like to thank Mrs HT for coaching us, Jill for driving us there, the parents for supporting and collecting us and Skippers Hill for a lovely match tea.

TRAINERS/FOOTBALL BOOTS Please could parents provide trainers/football boots with Velcro fasteners if your child is unable to fasten independently.

HATS & GLOVES An essential accessory in this cold weather: please (name and) send in.

PARISH NEWS All welcome to Sacred Heart Church Wadhurst on Thursday 7th December and St Peter’s Stonegate on Wednesday 13th December for a quiet time of reflection, prayer and music to help prepare us for Christmas.

Another busy and exciting week at Sacred Heart School where learning is fun!

Year 4 have been busy investigating states of matter this term. This week we

conducted exciting experiments into the changing states of water (a liquid). We used ice cubes and salt as well as boiling water! We were able in current freezing conditions to investigate what would happen to water in an ice cube tray on the outside balcony of Year 4 overnight! RESULT = frozen solid!

Geography this week has journeyed to the North and South Poles. We looked at life in the Arctic and also in Antarctica and compared conditions with the UK - especially daylight hours. We made some interesting discoveries.

DID YOU KNOW? Antarctica in July has 24 hours of darkness. Polar Bears live in the Arctic and Penguins in Antarctica.

have been using the part whole structure in their Maths lessons to

explore the number 10 and 20 bonds. They used cubes and Numicon shapes to find different ways of making the numbers. The tricky bit was recording what they did as a calculation, e.g. 4+2=6/2+4=6 and 5+1=6/1+5=6 and, even harder, to use the concrete materials to work out the corresponding subtractions, e.g. 6-4=2/6-4=2 and 6-1=5/6-5=1. In English they read ‘Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present’ and chose interesting verbs in the past tense to describe how Father Christmas made his way back home.
