May 19 th , 2020 Vol. 6 I just finished The Explorer by one of my favourite authors, Katherine Rundell. It is a story of four kids stranded in the Amazon rainforest and how they had to eat food from the environment to survive. How does pancakes made from cocoa grubs sound? Other books of hers that I have enjoyed: The Good Thieves, Rooftoppers, Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms and The Wolf Wilder. What are You Reading? Quote of the Week: “Feeling GRATITUDE and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” W.A. Ward At school one of the things you would have been doing with the team of Project Chef is creating your very own Recipe Book. You can still make this at home in the form of a recipe book or a food journal. Our friends at Project Chef have given you instructions on how to make a journal to keep recipes, ideas, etc. http://projectchef.ca/2020/04/08/food-journal/ If our school year had continued with no interruption, right now our classes would have been immersed in classroom cooking activities. However, I know learning at home includes many of you having more opportunities to be in the kitchen cooking and preparing meals. As our friends at Project Chef have said, “Cooking at home can give the chance to slow down and think about what you’re eating, to be curious about food, and examine what is in your fridge or garden with new questioning eyes. Did you know that when you are cooking you are learning math, science, language arts, social studies, and physical and health education? “ Please check out their website or Instagram for fabulous child friendly, nutritious recipes that they are updating daily! I am trying the Luscious Lemon Squares today. http://projectchef.ca/2020/05/01/luscious-lemon-squares/ Thank you, Barb Finley and the team of Project Chef! Message from Mrs. Cameron: Check it out: A classic picture book, Stone Soup has been retold with many versions around the world. It has an important message about the value in sharing amongst others. My favourite copy is the one by Jon Muth in our Library. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_TXIoiuBd4
