ust a few thoughts as we get ready to

start a new year and get anotherchance!J

I woke up a number of years ago while onvacation and it dawned on me that Kelleywould soon be all grown up and familyvacations as we have known them wouldbe a thing of the past. Just this past yearas my family was in a theater watchingToy Story 3, it came to the scene whereAndy is getting in his car and leaving forcollege. All of a sudden I thoughtthatsMatt! One day Matts going to leave hometoo! I started sobbing...not tears and a

little emotion...I am talking sobbing! Mattturned and said, Really dad? I hadreconciled to the fact that Kelley is halfway out the door but, until that moment Ihad not even begun to process the factthat Matt would soon be going also.

There was a particular year that I put thevideo camera down at Christmas andentered in to the occasion. It had been my

job since the kids were born to make surethat we had every special event on tape. Icould never fully experience theunwrapping of gifts because I was playingHoliday Director for movies that would bewatched in our old age. That day I decidedthat once in real time with all the emotionswould be better than a life time of trying torelive the moment on a television. Since

then we have about 10 15 minutes ofvideo for each Christmas and thats it.The rest is recorded in my heart and mind.

I read a book a number of years ago titledEpic written by John Eldridge. In thosepages John taught me that your life is likea movie.

There is a beginning, middle and an end.He explained that we really live thebeginning and dread the end but we makethe mistake of losing our way in themiddle. He goes on to encourage us thatwe should enjoy our lives like a really good

movieone chapter at the time. Dont fastforward and try to see how it turns out butsavor every morsel as you turn the pages.

Years ago when David Schott and I usedto eat out together a lot. I used to getagitated as I would quickly devour my foodand then have to wait while David seem totake forever to eat his food. If I said

anything I would get the speechyoupaid for ityou should enjoy it! (orsomething with a point like that). Today Ilike to be the one who finishes last wheneating with family or friends. Sometimes Iforget and swallow the food whole. But Ifeel quite accomplished when others arewaiting on me!

I used to use gas and energy passing cars

one after another in order to try to getsomewhere faster. It took me looking inmy rear view mirror many times to find thecars I had passed were right behind me nomatter how hard I raced to get to mydestination. I could have gone with theflow and enjoyed the trip!

FinallyI remember Ferris Beullers quotein John Hughes film Life moves prettyfastIf you do not slow down andsmell the roses once in awhile, YOUCOULD MISS IT!

    Happy New Year!

    TAKE HIM WITH YOU

    ave you ever been around

    someone long enough that you

already know the stories that theyare going to tell? Perhaps you havealready heard them or depending on theperson, you might have been there orbeen a part of the story to tell. A neatthing happened like that one Sunday atchurch. Let me tell you about it.

    H

I was sitting in my chair waiting for churchto begin and was just listening to the folks

chatter around me. Dawn and Randy (herson) were chatting back and forth tellingeach other I love you. Steve and Raywere talking about hunting and theweather. Other men were talking aboutthe Mens Tool Exchange that took placethe night before. I just took it all in andwas picturing each scenario as it unfolded.I began to think about church and

realized that in each scenario, they werehaving church. They were spending timetogether, admonishing each other andtaking care of each others needs.

As I kept listening and thinking, I said tomyself, You know, they had and arehaving church outside of this building. Then God said, Yeah, I know. I wasthere. I always am. I was not expecting

to hear from God right then because I was just taking it in. Funny how He speakswhen Im not expecting it. As I began tothink about what He had just told me Irealized that what we do INSIDE the fourwalls is a small fraction compared to whatwe are supposed to be doing OUTSIDEthe four walls.

You see, we are only INSIDE the fourwalls for a few hours. We live everywhere

else. We have contact and makeimpressions on people daily. Keep inmind: you have the opportunity to havechurch every day. It might not be withsomeone else but Jesus said He is with usALWAYS!

    Matthew 28:20

    ... And surely

    I am with

    you always,

    to the very end

    of the age."

nly God knows the potential of

each believer. We can projectwhat we think God might do in

someone's life, but we have no way ofknowing. We see only outward

appearances and behavior, whereas Godlooks at the heart (1 Sam. 16:7).

    O

The apostles were skeptical of some whoprofessed to be Christians. No oneseemed more unlikely to become adedicated follower of Jesus than Saul ofTarsus. He had been one of Christianity'sgreatest enemies, even overseeing themurder of Stephen (Acts 7:58-60). When

Paul suddenly expressed an interest inknowing the leaders of the Christianmovement, it was natural for the apostlesto suspect devious motives and to doubthis conversion. Nevertheless, despite theapostles' reluctance, Barnabas assumedthe best in Paul and risked his own life tobe Paul's advocate.

You may identify with Paul. Perhaps youwere an improbable candidate to be acommitted Christian. It may be that Godplaced a Christian friend beside you tohelp you develop your faith.

Thank the Father for those He has sent toyou who believed in what God could do inyou, even when others doubted.

    Henry & Richard Blackaby

And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were allafraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him andbrought him to the apostles.

Happy New Year!Have You Made Your Resolution?

s I typed these words, I realize that

for many hope has been deferred

and that the New Year may notlook so happy to those who are living onthe streets or in homes with no heat or thathave no food. It is very hard to believethat God loves you when you are cold andhungry and you cant feed your children oryou have no money to take your child tothe doctor if they are ill.

AI believe that we can be that hope and

that we can represent God the father, God

the son and God the Holy Spirit throughour constant giving into the storehouse. Itisnt only giving of food and clothing, but inmentoring those around us. At some pointwe were mentored by someone, andmaybe we are still being mentored. Iwould like to think that Im still beingmentored but can mentor others. The longterm goal is to help people learn to fish so

to speak. Give a man a fish and he/sheeats for a day, teach a man/woman to fishand they eat for a life time.

Im going to suggest that our NewYears resolutions would not be about ourhealth, or our financial goals, or readingour bible through in a year but bring theBible to life for someone. We have about350 people who come to our church. Ifeach one of us touch just one person, that

is another 350 people. If we continue togive hope to others, they in turn will givehope to someone. We need to feed themfirst, get them warm, and then share theword of God with them. It is so hard tohear words when your stomach is achingbecause you have not had any food or youare shivering so much that your teeth arerattling. Im going to suggest that you

    by Sonia Shearer

donttell someone in desperate need thatJesus loves them unless you decide to

fill a need first or find someone who can. Ican assure you that those words will fallon deaf ears unless you take action tohelp them. If money is what you have togive, then by all means, give money. Butthe thing they really need is your heart andyour time and most of all your love. Theyneed relationship. They need to be helpedin so many more ways than most of us arewilling to give, and they need to be able to

help others. Do you know that when youhelp someone your endorphins kick in andyour serotonin levels increase and you feelhappy? That has been scientificallyproven, thus the joy of giving.

So my challenge to you for the NewYear is find someone to take under yourwing. Feed them, love them, buildrelationship with them and introduce them

to Jesus. That would be a great NewYears resolution.May God richly pour out his blessings

on all of us the coming year so that wemay bless others.

    Hmong/Mong

n the mountainous regions of South China live

the Hmong/Mong people an Asian ethnic group.Because of political and economic reasons,

many of this group had to move to Laos, Thailand,

and Burma. Hmong people in the early 1960s wererecruited by the US Central Intelligence Agency tobe guerrilla fighters during the Vietnam War.Because the Hmong fought the Communist-nationalist Pathet Lao during the Secret War(Laotian Civil War), tens of thousands were caughtup in the aftermath of retaliation and persecutionand therefore sought political asylum in Australia,France, Canada and United States.

    I

I knew very little about this people group until

two families moved next door to us as neighbors. The Yang family originally lived in Northern Laosand because of the communist retaliation there theyleft everything and through the help of CatholicChurch refuge relief were able to fly to SouthernCalifornia, where they lived for a couple years.

Because of Peos computer expertise, heacquired a good position in one of the manycomputer companies in the Boston area. Of course,

because of the expense of homes in the suburbs ofBoston they moved to Fitchburg, Massachusetts.Pao Yang and his family lived in the first floorapartment and Touhoua Yang and his family lived inthe second floor apartment.

Paos wife worked outside of the home but Ihave no idea where. The younger brother workedas a mechanic in a local factory and his wife baby-sat for all the children. Mother Yang could notspeak any English. Betty and I just called her

grandma and she would smile with approval. Alltogether, there were eight grandchildren. While Itrimmed the bushes, they would run over to thehedge on our lot line asking me many questions. Imust say they were a handful but good kids, theparents would not allow the children to go out of theyard without someone of the Yang family with them.I often would sit down on the ground and talk tothem about history, geography and Christianprinciples. I loved that they were so open to me and

enjoyed listening to my stories. Telling stories hasalways been a stretch for me. (I am sorry God I donot want my nose to grow long like Pinocchios.)One of the older daughters shared with me that herDad wanted her to marry a Christian because theymake better husbands than a Shaman or a Buddhistbeliever would. She was happy that she wouldhave a choice.

Of course, the two families worked all the timedoing something productive for the betterment ofthe family. The men scraped off the old paint andpainted the house, did carpenter work and pouredcement. One of Grandmas jobs was a smallgarden in the back yard. I can see her yet bent over

with her bottom straight up into the air working forlong periods of time. All of the women and childrenwould go out to sweep the steps, driveway, andsidewalk, mow the lawn and shovel snow. (Whenthe two families purchased a motorized lawnmowerthe men did the mowing.) The very small onesbasically got in the way of the activities and in thewintertime played in the snow. One winter we had abig snowstorm and because our driveway was sobig, I hired a person to move the snow for us but Idid our sidewalk.I went next door and helped the women shovelsnow and they were shocked but very appreciative.

On certain festivals, the women wore colorfuldresses. They are a proud people, maintaineingtheir culture and blending in to American holidays.

It was very difficult to communicate to themexcept the older girls spoke very good English. Theoldest son Pao did well in communicating with us

and was very open to Betty and me. The familieswere Christians and belonged to the Missionary

Alliance church. I was taken back by the storiesthey lived and shared with me. They hadtestimonies of trusting God, Him providing and ofprotecting and delivering them from the Communist, storms, and the evil one. Even the way they wereable to come to America was a story in its self.

    website atwww.vcfleesburg.com

There were over 250 families in the Leominster andFitchburg area and most belonged to the LaotianMissionary Alliance church. Pao told me that thechurches in America were weak no Holy Spiritpower. They believe they were in a mission field tobring the true Jesus Christ to the lost. Pao told mehe felt very few in the American church were saved.

I wish you could have heard his heart. In the Southeast Asia (Hmong/Mong) if a boysfather died, he loses his inheritance. He became anorphan a boy without protection, without provision, and without an identity. In reality, he became a foreigner who has no rightsor privileges. Orphans had to scratch out a living ina world of chaos. Missionary Alliance, which is asmall domination, sent missionaries to their area of

Asia many years before. Palos parents were killed

and a godly Christian man took him in to live withthem, later adopted him giving him their name so hewas no longer an orphan redeeming him fromsomeone without rights to someone with an identity. His new father (mother) recognized his spirituality, intelligence and supported him in his quest. ThisChristian man went out of his way to be a goodfather and Peo showed his appreciation by takingcare of his stepmother after his second father

passed away and made it possible for her to cometo America and live with the two families. He saidbecause of their love and giving him their name wasthe major reason he serves Jesus Christ today.

He was thankful of what America was to themand did for them but he also understood theChristian worldview Shamanism, Buddhism andChristianity. He believed that the gospel should notaccommodate the whims of culture. He believedthat preaching the gospel and living out the sayings

of Jesus was the method to which lasting changewould be the outcome. Wherever the gospel waslived most courageously and speaking out the truthagainst racial and governmental injustice,Christianity was the most fruitful. As bible believers, our responsibility is to build the kingdom of God. Ascitizens of this new world order of righteousness, weare to understand historic Christian truth; to knowScripture and classic fundamentals of the faith. Ourresponsibility is not to be accepting of whatever ispopular; a false gospel of material advancement, end time heresies and self-center speculations. Heinsisted that those who confessed Jesus Christ astheir Lord must contend for values in their cultureand restore a sense of Godly understanding. Theonly way theological truth reaches the world throughthe actions of ordinary everyday followers of Jesusin the marketplace. We are called to serve and notto be served. We are called to Love and not to

expect Love. He contended Love was an attributeof God not man. Man filled with the Love of Godcould only Love.

Dr. Martin De Haan wrote in his articleWindows on the World, Choosing the biblicalworldview is not just adopting a philosophicalchange of mind and adopting a new set of

assumptions. It means trusting Christ as our Saviorfrom sin and following Him as Lord. For Christ isthe centerpiece of the biblical worldview.

As one reads the New Testament, one sees alarge-scale battle going on between the forces ofGod and of good and Satan who is the leader ofeverything evil. The biblical worldview offers hopein a life that resonates in the brightest and darkest

sides of our human nature. For those who respondto the forgiveness offered in Jesus the Christ, areno longer a foreigner. A life of redemption willchange your identity and your inheritance willexceed your expectations.

Of course, this will require daily decisions. Forthose who follow His leading and stay in Hispresence and appropriate salvation given for Hisnamesake will receive the promise of eternal life onthis earth and a place of existence with Jesus. The

biblical worldview offers hope in a life on earth andone to come in the heavenlies. Then I saw a newsky (heaven) and a new earth; for the former skyand the former earth had passed away [Gr. to arriveat a destination] (vanished), and there no longerexisted any sea (Revelation 21:1, AMP). For,behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, andthe former things shall not be remembered or comeinto mind (Isaiah 65:17, AMP)

A life of redemption will change youridentity and your inheritance will

exceed your expectations.Of course, this will

    require daily decisions.
