Instructor TehSuan Liu Having graduated from an Applied Linguistics program, Dr. Liu has experience in drama acting from college. This is the first time he is serving as an instructor to oversee the team for the annual drama performance. What is your role on the Annual Drama Performance team? My job is to make sure that all who participated can complete their tasks on time. I assist the leaders with executive works, and oversee the whole team. Up to now, all workers have been very diligent and responsible, since they all take the drama performance very seriously. What is your expectation? They will experience all kinds of adventure in life, just like the characters in the drama. From the drama, students can use their imagination to set up the stage and learn to make the audience enjoy the drama. Students can also develop their aesthetic sense. I’m quite surprised at the students’ performance, since some of them are quite shy in class.
Overall, the annual performance is an adventurous journey which helps students explore their talents. Not only can the performers find what they want, but hopely the audience can learn some lessons after watching this drama.

the Matchmaker’s Instructor/ Director /
Coordinator
Director Tracy Wang Tracy was the leader of World Folk Dance Society club. And because of her artistic quality, she was elected as the director. Recently, she attended the Directing Course to enhance her ability.
What have you learned from this position? Through intense trainings and rehearsals, I got to know my classmates better. My view of them changed even more when they performed on stage. I also wondered if they felt the same way to me.
In fact, I was not good at expressing my opinions, yet as a director, I must talk often. This helps train my communication ability. In addition, it’s also important to discuss with different performers in specific ways, which also requires control of my temper.
Why and how did you decide on the script? In order to make the play easy enough for the audience to understand, we changed the background to 1980s, a century later than the original version. As a result, the costumes, music, and everything else were altered based on the style back then. . To accentuate the major plots, we spared the peripherals , due to the budget and time limit: scenes that the audience may not resonate with or those that are not humorous are skipped as well. The ending was a long monologue, which may sound like preaching to people. We divided it into several parts for different actors to deliver. What is your expectation? Each performer has his/her own unique style. When performers rehearse, it’s important that they build their charisma on stage.
Through the subtle combination of scenes and sound effects, emotions of performers will tug everyone’s heartstrings—my ultimate goal for our performance. Has there been any difficulty? As a greenhorn in directing, I lacked confidence and doubted my capability for the job. Fortunately, I received help and encouragement from the alumni, such as the former director Family Fan.
Generally, workers would respect me and performers would follow my lead. They all devote themselves to the preparation. Besides, I‘d take the performers’ advice about acting as long as they can convince me. After all, I believe they know more about the roles than anyone else.
I am very impressed by how performers connect the roles to themselves and try to present the most genuine characters to the audience. I can’t wait to see their performance on the stage.

Coordinator Eva Chiu Eva was the vice president of FLLD Student Association. She also led the freshmen camp during her sophomore year. Now she is challenging herself to lead the annual performance.
What is your responsibility in this project? My job is to plan, organize, and execute the tasks precisely. Our teamwork is divided into many groups, and my job is to cooperate them and make sure everything is on the track. If the groups encounter problems, I have to help them solve the problems. Has there been any challenge? Actually, the problem we faced was a serious budget shortage. Yet, our crew found several alternative means to increase the resources and decrease expenses.
We received aid from Dean of College and department office. PR also received funds from some companies, which was really helpful for us. Members even donated their tissue paper so that we don’t have to spend money on them. What have you learned from it? As a coordinator, I must lead the team with confidence and power for them to follow my lead. However, workers are my classmates, so I view them as my partners, not followers. It’s important to strike a balance.
Other than that, our team contains 114 members, more than any other activities I’ve ever led. It’s a challenge for me to lead them.
What is your expectation? Of course we desire a flawless show with a perfect ending. We also hope that the audience can fully engage in the drama, to find some similarities between the perfor mance and the reality. Hopefully, they will think about the story and reflect on their lives. Furthermore, we will make an annual report and hand over our jobs to the juniors. They will be on track quickly.
Afterwards, what I want nothing more than going to a basketball game, because it inspires me to go on another adventure!

Find this poster familiar? Does the lady reminds you of Mary Poppins or Marilyn Monroe. Let’s see what the main idea of the poster is!
Art Director SzuYun Chang “I was inspired from the 80s’. The retro but lively color creates a comedic atmosphere of our show. The lady wearing a cloche in the poster, Levi, resembles Marilyn Monroe or Mary Poppins.”

Determination At first, Winnie learned about partner universities from
CCU’s Office of International Affairs’ website. "Studying abroad is one of my dreams since I was little," she made up her mind to give it a try. She took four semesters of German courses, "I feel super lucky that the only European sister university we can study is in Germany." With this opportunity, she would allow herself to completely immerse in a German environment.
Culture Shock Rumor has it that Europeans are indifferent. However,
Winnie recalled the time when she first moved to her dormitory, "they asked whether I need a hand. Then they helped me carry the luggage to the room. They are not cold and indifferent to people as we imagined." When speaking of the new lifestyle, Winnie said it was surprising that she adapted herself to Germany pretty well- except she really missed the convenience stores in Taiwan.
Maturity One afternoon, Winnie accidently lost her wallet. She felt
extremely nervous at first, so she rushed to the immigration office to re-apply for a personal identification document. In the process of dealing with the trouble, she had to communicate with the staff who did not speak English. The emergency was a critical reality check to improve her German.

Sandy Lin 林家寧
Determination Since Sandy was a senior high school student, she has been deeply obsessed with Korean culture. In 2012, she had already traveled to Korea. After coming back to Taiwan, she started to learn Korean until now. Also, she kept following the information about partner universities, "the reason why I chose Sungkyunwan University (成均館大學) was because it is closer to Seoul." Undoubtedly, she selected this country to improve her language abilities and explore more about Korea.
Culture Shock Sandy thought that she was already familiar with Korean culture, yet she was still not used to their lifestyle at first. She spoke of what she could not bear the most, "In Taiwan, there are a lot of people smoking. But in Korea, the average age of smokers is younger." Since Sungkyunkwan University is the fifth top colleges in Korea, Sandy was quite shocked.
Maturity Sandy meets a lot of people and exchanges experience with
them, "In our dormitory, I can always bump into many Europeans and other international students and have more chances to speak English." Besides, She takes Korean courses everyday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Her language abilities have improved a lot during her exchange life.
