Seeking Host Families 25-27 February 2013
Edendale will be hosting approximately 15-20 Year Six
students from Auckland’s Sister City, Ningbo City,
China in late February 2013. This is an arrangement
with Academic Ezy Group, an international
organisation. It has just been confirmed.
The organisers would like to know if any families
would be prepared to host two children for two
nights so they can experience life in an English
speaking home while they are visiting our
school. Please email Rosemary as soon as
possible if you think you might be able to assist.
Host families will be remunerated for the two
nights. [email protected] While at Edendale the visiting students will participate
in class with the Year 5-6 Team, present their
traditional musical instruments, perform Tai Chi, and
teach/share calligraphy to/with our students. This will
be a valuable shared cultural experience for both
Edendale and the visiting students and we are
delighted to be hosting them.
There is a possibility of this becoming an annual
event; there may also be a possibility of sponsored
Edendale student groups visiting Ningbo in the future.
Exciting times!
Congratulations
Our sincere congratulations to Annette Herbert who
won the leadership position - Y.5-6 Team. Annette has
had a number of years’ experience as a leader in the
Year 4 team and we look forward to her continued
leadership in this new role.
Sally Goode and Lesley Boswell will be Team
Leaders (Acting) for the Year Four and Year Three
teams respectively. We look forward to working with
them both within our senior leadership team.
Farewells
From time to time there are changes amongst
teaching staff in lots of schools. We hope at Edendale that we can grow teachers so that they can develop their careers in a number of schools.
Some of the reasons why teachers change schools are:
End of fixed-term contracts
Change of location
Going overseas to teach in international schools
Promotion to a more senior position
Mismatch with the current school
Family circumstances
Personal choice – change of career direction
Desma Lai has completed four years’ teaching at Edendale, beginning her career with us and subsequently developing leadership skills by leading our Social Sciences team and being the Staff Trustee for the past three years (thank you Desma). Desma is moving on to gain more experience in a new school as is Shamin Flanagan, who has been with us three years.
Steve Ramdhanie, Kirsten Ngan and Kristen Doscher have completed their contracts with Edendale and are moving on. Thanks to Steve for being the PTA staff rep this year.
Jen Harris and her partner are moving overseas to work in an international school. Zane Wilson, (notified in an earlier newsletter) has won a Deputy Principal position in an East Auckland school. We thank both Zane and Jen for their work as team leaders at Edendale.
We thank all the above teachers for their contributions to Edendale and wish them the very best for their careers in the future. Welcome and Welcome Back!
In 2013 we welcome back Charmaine Herman, (who
now has two young children of her own) as a Year 2
class teacher and Bridget Lawrence (who has spent
the past year teaching as a volunteer in Zambia) to a
position teaching a Year 5-6 class.
We will also welcome back Aimee Booth as a
permanent staff member and Shannon Andrews who
will also be returning to Edendale; both teaching in
Year 1. Jonathan Jackson and Tessa Ratcliffe are
new teachers (Year 4, Year 5-6). We will be finalising
the vacancy for a Year 3 class teacher very shortly.
What a fabulous year we have had at Garden to Table!
We would like to thank our fabulous volunteers who have turned
up every week and help with our students, we couldn’t have
achieved so much with out you all. In the garden Jodie and the kids have been harvesting Swift and
Agria potatoes, they will soon be turned into delicious potato and
rosemary pizzas with rocket and sunflower seed pesto.
We have also been growing our seeds and are ready to plant in
our beds, we are hoping for a bumper crop of summer Vegetables
upon our return next year!
Have you seen our new scarecrows Trevor and Daisy? These were
made by our Year 3 classes, give them a wave as you pass by!
From our harvest of beetroot and silverbeet we made colourful
pasta, silverbeet was our green pasta and beetroot our pink pasta
topped with a springtime broccoli sauce, it was devoured! We will be having a Christmas Garden to Table Stall on Thursday
13 December selling an array of goodies from homemade
strawberry jam to potatoes, tomato plants and chocolate and
beetroot cupcakes. The stall will be open from 8.20 to 8.50am
then from 3.00pm outside Rm9/ Resource Room. We look forward
to seeing you there! If you’d like to be part of our fun team, you are welcome to join,
we still have volunteer vacancies. Your help would make a real
difference to the sessions.
Please email [email protected] if you have any questions. Sarah Jodie and Kim

The Twilight Eclipse
It was a sunny day I was having some fun Then I noticed something about the sun The sunlight seemed to be getting dim All I could see was a bright shining rim
The sun had a black face It was dark all around the place The shadow was as dark as coal
It was darker then my teacher’s soul By Elam-Rm26
