Soldiers aid Tierheim, more help is needed Soldiers from U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company delivered more than 500 pounds of dog and cat food, along with toys, kitty litter and blankets to the Weiden Tierheim (animal shelter), July 20. The Weiden Tierheim is in need of support for much-needed supplies essential for the pets they care for, many of which are abandoned and neglected by members of the Grafenwoehr Military Community. The company collects food and animal-related donations in bins near the entrance of the Exchange. Wet and dry dog and cat food, along with kitty litter are the most requested. First time the Department of Defense Hiring Heroes Career Fair has visited Europe. Over 50 employers expected to attend, with jobs available around the world. If you are getting ready to separate or already separated, retiring or already retired you and your families are invited to attend. Career Fair is being sponsored by ACAP & ACS. Postal Advisory: Prohibited Matters and Restrictions Spent ammunitions, shells or similar war trophies are strictly prohibited from being mailed from any APO/FPO Military Post Office ZIP Code. This change is necessary to prevent false positive hits during inspections by airport, airline, and U.S Custom Service personnel. This prohibition also applies to replicas of these items even when modified to be inert. For example shell casing/bullet belt buckles, hand grenade paperweights, pistols and handguns mounted on plaques, etc. Rationale: Replica or expended items even when modified to be inert still show up as dangerous, illegal, and hazardous materials when x-rayed and still present the potential to shut down, disrupt, or jeopardize mail passing through military, civilian, and international mail systems. Please be aware that all mail requiring flight will be pass through x-ray in Frankfurt and any prohibited items will be returned to sender with possible law enforcement / Customs involvement. Have You Saved a Life Today? Red Cross Needs Volunteers Do you have a background in the medical field or teaching field? The American Red Cross is looking for qualified Volunteer Health and Safety Instructors for our community. Call today to see if you qualify. Health and Safety Instructors: Volunteers teach lifesaving skills in the community. Classes such as Babysitting, CPR, First Aid, AED and other safety presentations. Armed Forces Caseworkers: Volunteers work with local members of the military and their families ensuring the delivery of emergency communications. Health Fair Volunteers: Volunteers staff a table at events in the community and engage those attending in conversations about preparedness and safety. Seeking Emergency Placement Care Providers The children in the USAGG need you. The Emergency Placement Care (EPC) Program trains individuals to become 24 hour providers for at risk children. The community is in need of more providers as the number of children in imminent danger increased due to the deployment rotation of family members. The training you receive will last you a lifetime and

This is a beginner level painting class for elementary school students. Students will learn color mixing, and will practice painting animals, plant life, and scenery. Students will also learn new

Wednesdays, 3 - 24 Aug: Drawing, 2 – 3 p.m., Ages 5-11

This is a beginner level drawing class. Students will learn step-by-step process of drawing various animals, plants, objects, etc.

Wednesdays, 3 - 24 Aug: Mommy & Me Painting, 5 – 6 p.m. Ages 1- 4. Children will explore the art of painting, utilizing fingers, sponges, stamps, brushes, etc. Parent participation is required! Rose Barracks, Bldg 224.

This is a beginner level clay class. Children will practice various techniques of working with clay. They will also have the opportunity to complete clay projects.

Culture Festival: Hafensommer

This Kulturfestival (only GE) is attracting thousands of visitors each year with its open air cinema, concerts, comedy and theater performances. The stage is on the water! The fest site is at the old port = Alter Hafen, in the vicinity of the "Kulturspeicher" and the "Congress-Centrum". Traveling: Due to the difficult parking situation, it is recommended you travel via German railroad (in EN) or local public transport ("ÖPNV", only GE): you can reach the Alter Hafen from the city center with street car ("Straßenbahn") lines 2 and 4; from the Residenz with street car line 9; and from the main train station ("Hauptbahnhof") with bus lines 9, 11, 13, 19, 22 and 27. Parking: The "Parkhaus Alter Hafen" is in immediate vicinity of the old port. Only a few hundred yards away is the "Parkhaus Congress-Centrum". Both parking garages will require a fee. You can also park on the "Talavera" fest site between Mainaustraße and Georg-Eydel-Straße (free of cost unless an event takes place there).

During the "Italian Summer", the whole city of Beilngries honours the Italian life style: for example with numerous concerts with classical and modern Italian music, and specialties from the Italian cuisine and wine cellars. On 20 August, the whole Altstadt = old city will celebrate the "Grande Finale‖ with music, dance and theater performances.

Classic Open Air and “Picknick im Park” 6 Aug: 8 p.m. either day, 90478 Nuremberg, Luitpoldhain, along Bayernstrasse.

Traditionally, these open-air concerts are free to the public. Bring a picnic basket, find a nice spot in the park, and listen to the music for free. Picknick im Park is often referred to as the "Woodstock of Classical Music" (only GE): you enjoy the performance, cheer the artists, and even a little rain shower can’t scare you away. No-Cars Sunday

7 Aug: all day, in the pretty Taubertal (Tauber valley.) No cars will be allowed on the route between Freudenberg,

Wertheim and Tauberbischofsheim (all west of Wuerzburg). The route is reserved for cyclists and skaters only. In addition, there will be lots of entertainment and refreshments in the towns along the route.

Equestrian: "Western Pferd 2011"

miles SE of Regensburg). In addition to the daily shows, the "Western Pferd" competition is a highlight for all horse lovers. It is a mixture of funny and spectacular stunts, as well as various features of Western-style riding such as reigning, pleasure and trail. Leisure riders can even participate in the Quarter-Mile Race, the Barrel Race Super Trophy, and the Pullman City Club Trail.

Pullman City Club Trail: A parcours of various obstacles. In order to master it, the horse's obedience is paramount. Quarter-Mile Race: Two riders and their horses compete over the distance of a quarter of a mile. Barrel Race Super Trophy: This race is held at the "Show Arena" as part of the "Gala Show". The horses need to circle around three barrels in a certain formation, which requires them to be both fast and agile. Utah compete with best female ski jumpers from 15 nations. The FIS Ski Jump Continental Cup is arranged yearly by the International Ski Federation (FIS). It's the second-highest ski jumping season-long competition, only surpassed by the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. The cup usually consist of juniors, or jumpers who are fighting for a spot on their nation's World Cup team. Some jumpers shift between the World Cup and the Continental Cup, and therefore, the winner of the Continental Cup is not necessarily the best jumper. Fest for all Fussball Fans

15 Aug: 10 a.m., in 92334 Berching, Reichenauplatz (ca. 42 km / 26 miles west of Hohenfels).

Fest organized by the fanclub of the "1. Fussball Club Nuremberg.‖ At 5 p.m. you can enjoy a "Schmakerl", a piglet from the grill.

Line Dance Weekend

19 - 21 Aug: at the Pullman City Fun Park in 94535 Eging am See, Ruberting 30. Special guest Joachim Armbruster,

who won numerous international line dance championships (even in the USA), will be performing and teaching throughout this weekend. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Admission (only GE): Adults: 13 Euros. Children 4 - 16 years: 7 Euros. Children under 4 if accompanied by their parents are free. Family ticket (2 adults + 2 children under 16): 29 Euros. Dogs on a leash: 1 Euro. Visitors dressed in historical Western costumes (representing ca. 1740 - 1880) get in for free.

Hops and Beer Fest: Hopfenzupf-Markt 27 Aug: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., in 87657 Goerisried, Kirchplatz (ca. 85 km / 55 miles NW of Garmisch-Partenkirchen). This is

a great little fest, celebrating the lives and work of the hops pickers - hops are a vital ingredient in beer. Of course there will be beer and delicious food a-plenty. Bavarian music can be heard, and booths will be set up all around the Kirchplatz. Highlight will be the eagerly awaited "hops picking contest." Read about the program here, (link only in GE). 11 a.m: Booths will open; you can have a Bavarian breakfast with Weisswurst and Brezen. Weisswurst are a special type of white sausages, made with veal and parsley, and served with sweet mustard. midday: Official grand opening of the fest with tapping of the first keg. midday - 2 p.m.: Live Bavarian music with the "Musikkapelle Goerisried." 2 p.m: Hopfenzupf-Wettbewerb = hops picking contest. 3 p.m: Bavarian dances with the "Trachtenverein Goerisried." 4 p.m: Performance by the "Line Dance Club Allgaeu." 5 p.m: Live Bavarian music with the "Schwarzenberger Musikkapelle."

Guided Tour in English: The City Hall of Schweinfurt

30 Aug: 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., in 97421 Schweinfurt, at the entrance to the "Rathaus" = city hall on Marktplatz.

The ―Rathaus‖ of Schweinfurt is not only the city’s most remarkable landmark, it is also regarded as one of the most significant profane Renaissance buildings in southern Germany. Discover fascinating details of its architecture on the inside and outside, and get a breathtaking view of the city and its surrounding scenery from the roof-deck of the ―new‖ city hall.
