Principal’s PenTrustA German police report had the following account:

“A motorist following driving instructions on the satellite navigation computer in his BMW drove down a ferry ramp

into the Havel River without realizing the only way he could cross the river was to wait for the ferry.”

The world in which we live causes us, at times, to put our trust in the wrong things. Whether is it technology,

material comfort, intelligence, or a myriad of other assets or traits, sometimes we can place our trust in misguided

areas.

The Bible is clear in spelling out that there is only one thing that is fully deserving of our total trust – and that is

God. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your

ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

The Leadership and staff at Cornerstone seek to live with such a dependence on God. Whether the decisions we

need to make relate to big picture planning, or about a struggle a single child has in a class, we believe seriously

in the need to take all these things to the ultimate source of wisdom – God.

The teachers and staff at the College have trained for years to learn the skills to teach your children well. They

have been selected for the excellence they bring – and partnered with that is their personal dependence on the

Creator. They desire to use the gifts God has given then in the role they have. As it says in Romans 12: ‘If your

gift is ……serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement…… if

it is to lead, do it diligently…’. The call is for us to all use the gifts we have.

Together we yearn to help your children discover for themselves this source of wisdom and direction, and from

that, to lead lives that leave a trail of blessing in their wake.

When it comes to placing your trust in a source of wisdom – there is no other place than God. As your committed

educators, we aim to use our own professional training and experience, married with earnestly seeking God, to

serve you and your children in the best way possible.

Around the College

Cleaver’s ClangersIf you take a laptop computer for a run you could jog your memory.

A bicycle can’t stand alone; it is two tired.

Meet the Teacher NightLast week, we hosted our ‘Meet the Teacher’ night, which saw a great turnout, particularly in the Primary years. Thanks for those who came and took an interest in their child’s education and heard of how they can partner with teachers in helping deliver some great outcomes for our students.Special thanks to staff for their preparation and attendance.

Pre-Primary and Kindy Kids on BusesPre-Primary and Kindy students who catch the bus in the morning MUST go to the office when they arrive. An Education Assistant will collect all bus children from the office in the morning and safely walk them across to class. Under no circumstance is a child to be delivered to class by a sibling, or walk their own way across. Some near misses mean that we must ensure the safety of our youngest students. Please ensure your child is aware of what they must do when they arrive at the College.

After School Matters. Please note that any primary student who has not been collected from the Kiss and Drop Zone or Waratah Court by 3:30pm, will now need to be collected from the office. Additionally, teachers are on duty at the school’s exits from 3:15pm, but students playing on school equipment after school must be actively supervised by parents. Duty of Care does not extend to the playgrounds after College hours.

Prayer LaunchThe College Commissioning (Prayer Launch) is an event that brings together

churches from across the region to dedicate the work of the College to God. Last Sunday night, a team of leaders, pastors, and community members joined staff on the College grounds to commit 2014 and the work we do, to God. Thank you to those who came - it meant a great deal to have such support displayed to the team here at Cornerstone.

Mooin TransferThis week, a team of students will be travelling to Geelong to represent WA in the National ‘Mooin Transfer’ competition. As a result of the College’s winning place in the Cows Create Careers program AGAIN in 2013, they have been asked to produce an advertisement for the Australian Dairy Industry. The students will be travelling with Mrs Jill Wright and Mr David van der Tang. We will advise how they have performed upon their return.

Swimming CarnivalsAt the end of this week, the Secondary students will be involved in their Swimming Carnival, and the following week, the Primary students (Year 4-6) will have their turn. The younger Primary students (Year 1-3) will have their traditional beach

carnival on Friday March 14.We love the support of parents and family at these events, and would encourage everyone to come along and cheer on students. Willing helpers are also sought, so if you wish to provide assistance on the day, contact the office and they will pass your details through to staff to see if there are any suitable tasks still available. That said, being present and enthusiastic is also an important role. Hope to see you there!

Grace Court FootpathPlease ensure you use the footpaths in Grace Court. For the safety of all, please DO NOT cross Grace Court between buses or across the roadways. This applies to parents and students.

Parent HandbooksHandbooks for the Primary and Secondary school are now available, and can be accessed on the College website. From the main page, select the ‘Student’ tab and there you will see a drop down box which has ‘Parent Handbooks’ as the title. Please select this and download the relevant folder. We encourage every family to ensure the details within are understood, as valuable information regarding to student expectations and College processes are outlined.

LunchboxesIt has come to the attention of the office, that some children are coming to school without adequate lunches packed. We do support parents in encouraging independence of children in preparing their own lunches, but it does appear that some children are simply not bringing

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives

generously to all without finding fault,

and it will be given to you.

items of nutrition when left to their own devices. Can you please check what goes into the lunch box, as a recess snack (such as a piece of fruit), as well as a substantial lunch is required to help each child maintain their concentration during the day. Thanks for your help!

Swimming ChangesWould parents please note that the dates for Swimming Lessons (Year 1-6) have changed from what is printed in your family pack. Classes are now scheduled for June 9 to June 20, and only relate to students in Years 1-6, not Pre-Primary. The Leisure Centre is unable to manage the student numbers involved with the Pre-Primary classes this year.

Mathletics and Reading EggsMathletics and Reading Eggs are tools used to reinforce your child’s classroom learning. We strongly encourage home use of these products. Mrs Meyer, our coordinator of the program, wishes to advise that your child’s Mathletics and Reading Eggs password is the same password as last year. If your child has forgotten his or her password, your child’s class teacher will be more than happy to provide your child with a sign in card. These programs are used by many students in Years 2 to Year 12. For all our new students, please ask your class teacher to explain to you how the programs work.

Break the “Cram Cycle” Before it StartsBy the end of the semester, students often find themselves overloaded and overwhelmed, having to rely on cramming for final exams to get through to the break. They are exhausted and in survival mode. Thriving academically no longer matters. All that matters is the break at the end.If you’ve ever felt this way, you’ve experienced what we call the “Cram Cycle.” Students get busy during the semester, which leads to exhaustion. When you’re exhausted, the only thing you want to do is zone out for a bit. After an afternoon of zoning, students are forced to put all their effort into completing assignments that are due tomorrow. We call this “cramming.” As students work on only that which is due tomorrow, long-term assignments pile up and create even more busyness, which leads to exhaustion, and the “Cram Cycle” begins to accelerate.

Most students only get out of the “Cram Cycle” when the semester ends. But 2014 can be different. If you want to stay out of this dreaded cycle, commit yourself to studying at least five days a week, even when you don’t have anything due the next day. Use every day as a review day, spreading out your study sessions for big tests and projects across multiple days instead of letting them pile up. This

approach takes more effort initially to create these habits, but you’ll reap the benefits when you’re free of the “Cram Cycle” and the stress that follows it come finals season.Learn more this year about how to

improve your results and be more efficient and effective with your

schoolwork by working through the units on www.studyskillshandbook.com.au . Our school’s access details are:
