SANDIWA Y PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER WELCOME BACK Welcome back to the second part of the Spring T erm - let’s hope we get some Spring weather soon! Please continue to send the children in with warm clothing as we hope to get them outside as much as we can. BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION/DEFIBRILLATOR I am delighted to inform you that we have raised an amazing £1460 so far - please send in any remaining sponsor money to the school office. Thank you for your support! APPRENTICE WEEKS Over the remaining weeks in the year, each class will be involved in what we are calling our ‘Apprentice Week’. Each class will be given a small amount of money which they need to work together to decide how to make into more money which will be available to spend on their class. I will be asking each class to present their business plan and accounts so that they can account for every penny they spend and earn. I am looking for as many interesting and clever ways as possible for the children to make money for themselves. This week, Y ear 1 have i nvited their parents (and other guests) into school for two coffee/cake sessions. They have been very clever by making cakes themselves in school, decorating table clothes and making table decorations. I wonder which class will be able to make the most amount of money that would make Lord Sugar say “You’re Hired!” CHAIR OF GOVERNORS On behalf of the school staff and governors, I would like to welcome Mrs Alison Simpson (mum to Jonathan in Y6 and Oliver in Y3) to the role of Chair of Governors. Alison brings a vast range of experience to the school governors as an experienced school consultant working with schools on the Wirral. SPORTS UPDATES We have continued to have more sporting successes in the past weeks. Well done to all the children who took part in the athletics tournament and the girls football competition. The girls have written the following report for you: “The girl footballers took part in the Cheshire finals at the Crewe Alexander grounds. We took 8 players (Emilia, Hannah B, Ella, Grace, Louisa, Lucy C and Esme). We won and drew all our matches until we got into the semi-finals where we lost 1-0. We played really well, working as a team and using our talents. Overall we came 3rd in Cheshire out of the 8 teams who were playing.” Well done, girls! PARENT VIEWS I am always grateful for any feedback and I have spoken to a number of parents about parts of the school that you really like and other parts that you would like to see change. The governors and I are currently working on a questionnaire which we will soon be asking you to complete to get feedback. In addition, you can leave feedback on Ofsted’s ParentView website where you are asked several short questions about your views of the school. Thank you to the 6 parents who have already logged in and left their views. Please note that these views are left anonymously - if you have any specific concerns, please raise these with the school directly so that we can support you to resolve them. EASTER EGG - VALE ROYAL LIONS This week, we have had some lovely Easter eggs donated to school by the Vale Royal Lions (by Sophie and Georgina Randall’s grandad) for us to raffle in the school community. There are 10 different prizes: 7 eggs (one for each of the classes in the school), 2 runner up eggs and 1 large egg for the whole school raffle. This egg will be on display in the school office - it’s amazing! The children (and parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc) are invited to purchase a ‘square’ for £1. One of these squares will be drawn in each class to win an Easter egg. These will then be returned to the raffle to drawn out a winner and two runners up for the school. The Lions do a fantastic job supporting the local community with very worthwhile projects. We would be grateful for your support this Easter time to buy a square for a £1. These will be in classrooms from Monday 2nd March. NUMBER 19 / SPRING TERM 2015 / WEDNESDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2015
