Lieutenant Governor’s Greeting

Hello Division 21! I hope all of you are enjoying your summers so far! Although our time away from school is a great opportunity to

relax and recharge before the next school year, people in our communities are still in need of help over the summer months. For this simple reason, our service cannot stop over the summer. If each of our clubs can complete a service activity in the coming months, we can make a huge impact on the community!

Contents

• 3 - Upcoming Events, International Convention • 4 and 5 - Divisional Meeting Recap • 6 - District Project • 7 - Governor’s Project • 8 - Service Spotlight • 9 - Paperwork Status • 10 and 11 - Contact Information

Upcoming Events • Summer Service! • Divisional Meeting before school starts

again

International Convention The International Convention is the biggest event of the Key Club year, with over 1,600 Key Clubbers from clubs around the world attending! I won’t be able to attend this year, but there are some fabulous Key Clubbers from the New York District who will be there representing our state. Although the deadline for registration in this years convention has passed, keep it in mind for next year.

Divisional Meeting Recap Our 1st Divisional Meeting of the new service year was held in Long Branch Park in Liverpool on June 18th. We discussed a variety of topics that will be important for our division in the future.

• Summer Service Plans At the meeting, we went over a list of potential ideas for fundraisers and service projects that could work well over the summer. Officers in attendance also made some suggestions regarding charities and organizations they have worked with in the past.

• Recent Projects Key Clubbers gave brief descriptions of their club’s recent activities and their successes.

• New Officers Officers for the 2016-2017 service year in attendance provided their contact information, and the importance of ERF submissions was discussed.

• Paperwork MRFs still need to be submitted over the summer, especially if your club has completed service hours and raised money. ERFs should be submitted as soon as possible. Both forms are easy to complete, and were touched on at the meeting.

• District Awards District awards from the 2015-2016 service year were distributed to clubs in attendance at the meeting. Clubs who received awards include Jamesville Dewitt, Hannibal, Baker, ESM, Nottingham, Solvay, Nottingham and Oswego. Congratulations!

• Service Spotlights When your club completes a service project or fundraiser over the summer, be sure to take photos and send them to me with a short description of the activity to be featured in the next newsletter! I will also send your submissions to the District Editor for a chance to be featured statewide, as Nottingham’s Relay for life team was in the most recent Empire Key.

• Divisional Co-operation At the meeting, we discussed plans to increase co-operation between clubs within our division over the coming year. These plans could increase the effectiveness of our Key Clubs by working together as a unit, but are contingent on contact info.

District Project: Icing Smiles The District Project for the coming service year, as selected by the District poll, is Icing Smiles! Icing Smiles is an outstanding nonprofit organization that works to ease the suffering of children with critical illnesses by creating custom cakes and treats.

Please consider using your next fundraiser to benefit the Icing Smiles cause, as it is definitely a worthy one! If you have questions regarding the organization, feel free to visit their website, www.icingsmiles.org, email me, or get in touch with the Icing Smiles Student Ambassador, Key Clubber Daniel Corpuz, at [email protected].

Governor’s Project: Voices for the Blind The Governor’s Project is a cause selected by the District Governor and approved by the District Board. This year, Governor Matt Garber created Voices for the Blind, a project

seeking to empower blind children and students. From listening to the Governor speak regarding the cause at the Spring Board meeting, I can attest to his passion on the subject. If our individual clubs

can channel this passion, the project can make a massive impact on the lives of the blind in our communities. The project will be working with Camp Abilities, a summer camp focusing on adapted sports, interaction and confidence building. If your club wold like to contribute to the project, email me for details on how to donate your funds.

Service Spotlight

Father’s Day Cards After discussing important divisional topics at the meeting on the 18th, we took some time to create Father’s Day cards for fathers at the Loretto nursing home in Syracuse. The cards were from “your local Key Club”, and expressed well wishes and caring

Paperwork Status Thanks to the clubs who have been consistent in submitting their

paperwork. If your club hasn’t, theres no better time to start than now! The June MRF is due July 10th. Only JD have submitted an ERF, and contact information for new officers is extremely

important for the coming year. Without the contact information of the new officers, I won’t be able to update them on service opportunities, and important district news and events.

Additionally, in order to increase co-operation between clubs in our division and work together, I will need the contact information of all officers so that I can help to coordinate events and efforts. So get those ERFs submitted!
