WWWPatron,Prof.TerryV.Callaghan,receivedaCMGinthe2018NewYearhonoursforservicestoadvancingknowledgeandinternationalcollaborationinArcticscience.ProfessorCallaghanistheUK’sleadingexpertontheimpactofclimatechangeintheArctic.Overacareeroffivedecadeshehasledground-breakingresearch;builtimpressiveinternationalteams;anddeliveredexceptionalscientificresultsacrossthePolarregions.Heispassionateaboutthevalueofresearchforthepublic,includingyoungpeople,andpolicymakers.We’reincrediblyproudthatProf.CallaghanhaschosentolendhisexpertisetoWWW,passingonhisknowledgetotheyoungpeopleweareworkingwith.Onlearningofhisawardhesaid:“Iamdeeplyhonouredandhumbledbythisrecognitionofmylife’sworkwhichdependedonselflesssupportfrommyfamilyandcooperationwithinspirationalfriendsaroundtheworld.Onlybyworkingtogetheracrossnationalborderscanweunderstandtheworld’schangingenvironmentandhowweshouldadapt.Weowethistofuturegenerations.”

whilstshewasmooredinPortisheadMarina,witheachyoungvisitortakingawayabraceletmadefromropethathadtravelledaroundtheNorthPoleduringthePolarOceanChallenge!
• BristolFestivalofNature–aswellasthepublicweekendwetookpartintheschoolsdaywhere80childrenfrom5schoolsracedtodressasanexplorer,namedArcticanimalsandwitnessedclimatechangeinajar!
• OurArcticAdventuredayatUWE–bringingmorethan100childrenfrom8schoolstogether,usingmusic,streetdance,cookeryandagiantmaptoexploretheArcticandclimatechange.
• Developing‘take-away’experimentcardswithourpartnerINTERACT.• Continuingourworkwithindividualschools,madepossiblebyourbrilliantbandofexplorers.
Withyoursupportwehaveworkedwithmorethan70schoolsandover4,800children,bringingtheArcticandclimatechangeintotheclassroom,andusingfunandengagingmeanstoexploretheseimportantissues.Wecountourselvesveryluckythatourworknotonlyraisesawarenessofclimatechange,oneofthebiggestglobalchallengesfacingtheyouthoftoday,butthatitallowsustoworkwithsomanyknowledgeable,inspiringandcreativeindividuals,includingalltheyoungpeoplewhoparticipateinWWWactivitiesandshowsomuchpassion,energyandinteresttotakeonthischallenge.
