Dispose of Your Batteries and OtherHazardous Waste Responsibly

Many items commonly used in homes contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to the environment. These items are typically referred to as household hazardous waste (HHW). Proper use and disposal is critical to your safety and the health of the environment.

Some common HHW items include batteries, paint, automotive fluids, lawn chemicals, household cleaners and electronic items. All of these items can be disposed of safely and for FREE at the next Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste collection event.

No business waste is accepted, and the transportation limit for residential waste is 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle.

The Holidays Are Soon Approaching!

Extra Holiday Waste

Burrtec will collect and recycle Christmas trees from single-family residences. Please place your tree at curbside after Christmas on your collection day. Burrtec will provide this service for approximately a 2 week period after Christmas Day. If possible trees 6’ and over should be cut in half. Please take all ornaments, lights, and metal stands off of the tree. Flocked trees will not be recycled. They will be collected as trash. Happy Holidays!

Approximately 80% of your holiday trash is recyclable. All gift boxes, wrapping paper, greeting cards, and cardboard packaging are items that may be placed in your recycling bin. Burrtec will collect your excess holiday trash and recyclables. Beginning the day after Christmas for approximately 1 week, place excess holiday trash/recyclables in bags alongside your carts on your collection day.

Top 5 Items to Keep OUTof the Recycling Bin

Here are the 5 top items that should never be placed in the recycling bin:

1. No garden hoses. Despite being made from rubber, vinyl or a combination of both, this item still belongs in the trash.

2. No diapers. Diapers should be placed in your trash bin.

3. No hazardous waste. This means no paint, motor oil, batteries, syringes, needles, etc. Hazardous Waste places our facility staff at risk. Do not place into any of your Burrtec carts.

4. No pet food bags. The wax coating prevents the bags from breaking down in the recycling process, so pet food bags go into the trash bin.

5. No electronic waste. These items are best recycled through a proper e-recycler.

Remember to keep the blue bin free of contamination!
