INTRODUCTION• officially the Federal Democratic

Republic of Nepal• landlocked sovereign nation located

in South Asia• roughly trapezoidal shape, 800 kilometres

(497 mi) long and 200 kilometres (124 mi) wide, with an area of 147,181 km2

• experiences five seasons: summer, monsoon, autumn, winter and spring

• The rupee (Nepali: रू��य��) is the official currency of Nepal

• The issuance of the currency is controlled by the Nepal Rastra Bank

• 1.6 Nepalese rupees = 1 Indian rupee

GEOGRAPHY

• located in South Asia between China in the north and India in the south, east and west

• Nepal falls in the temperate zone north of the Tropic of Cancer

• The country can be divided into three main geographical regions: Himalayan region, mid hill region and Terai region

• highest point : Mt. Everest (8,848 m)•  lowest point : Terai plains of Kechana

Kalan in Jhapa (60 m)• The Himalayas (above 3,000 m)

comprises mountains, alpine pastures and temperate forests limited by the tree-line (4,000 m) and snow line (5,500 m)

• The perennial rivers include Mahakali, Karnali, Narayani and Koshi rivers originating in the Himalayas

CLIMATE• In the north summers are cool

and winters severe, while in south summers are tropical and winters are mild

• five major seasons: spring, summer, monsoon, autumn and winter

• The average annual rainfall is 1,600 mm

• An interesting fact is that there is no seasonal constraint on traveling in and through Nepal.  Even in December and January, when winter is at its severest, there are compensating bright sun and brilliant views

• Spring is the time for rhododendrons while the clearest skies are found after the monsoon in October and November

• Nepal can be visited the whole year round

TOURISM • Tourism is the largest industry in Nepal, and the largest Source of foreign exchange and revenue

• Possessing 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world, Nepal is a hotspot destination for mountaineers, rock climbers and people seeking adventures

• The Hindu and Buddhist heritage of Nepal, and its cold weather are also strong attractions.

• Nepal is the country where Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world, is located

• major tourist activities include wilderness and adventure activities such as Mountain biking, Bungy Jumping , Ziplining, trekking, flights, paragliding and hot air ballooning over the mountains of Himalaya, exploring the waterways by raft, kayak or canoe and jungle safaris especially in the Terai region.

MAJOR DESTINATIONSKathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, is one of the world's oldest cities. The old part of the city, with narrow medieval streets and lovely little shrines, centers on the Durbar Square. One can find distinctive pagoda-roofed temples, stone sculptures, old monasteries and historic monuments in Durbar Square. Pokhara, an enchanting city nestled in the tranquil valley, is the starting point for many of Nepal’s most popular trekking and rafting destinations. Situated 200 km west of Kathmandu.

Bhaktapur or also known as Bhadgaon, is a museum of medieval art and architecture with many fine examples of sculpture, woodcarving and colossal pagoda temples consecrated to different gods and goddesses.the image shows Nyatapole temple in bhakthapur

Nagarkot is a popular tourist spot in Nepal. Nagarkot is located 32 km east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175 masl. Himalayan peaks like Manaslu (8463 meters above sea level), Ganesh Himal (7111 masl), Langan (7246 masl), Choba Bhamre (6016 masl) and Gaurisankar (7134 masl), all clearly seen from Nagarkot.Lumbini is the pilgrimage tourist sites because that's where the birthplace of Siddharta Gautama or Buddha. Lumbini is a small town in southwestern plains of Nepal, where the ruins of the old city can still be seen. the area around Lumbini have the remains of many ancient Stupas and monasteries.

Annapurna is a nature conservation area is a favorite track route of professional climbers. Annapurna I, the highest peak reaching 8,000 meters, surrounded by his brothers are in the 7,000 meters, always covered with snow and exudes a grandeur that magnet tourists coming to this country.

Chitwan is one of the finest national parks in Asia, renowned for its concentration of wildlife and top class tourist lodges, which provide the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat. The main attraction here is the Chitwan National Park, One of the largest forests regions in Asia teeming with wildlife such as the rare great one-horned rhinoceros

Patan, also known as Lalitpur, is a city located in the Kathmandu valley just separated from the city of Kathmandu by the Bagmati River. Patan is famous for its very rich cultural heritage and its tradition of arts and crafts. The city is full of temples, monasteries, and religious art.The Golden Temple (Kwa Bahal) is situated near Durbar Square. 

Janakpur,also known as Janakpurdham, is one of the historical and religious cities of Nepal. The centre of Janakpur is dominated by the impressive janaki mandir to the north and west of the bazaar. This temple, one of the biggest in Nepal, was built in 1898
