As we move through the ice and snow that has been blasting most of our region this winter, hopefully you’re staying cozy and warm. Despite the frigid temperatures, many chapters and state councils have already kicked off2009 with a variety of meetings and events— and the Northeast Regional Team has had the opportunity to attend several of them! Last month, Susan participated in the Tri-State Leadership Conference in Southbridge, MA. Co-sponsored by the Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island State Councils, this collaborative event brought together nearly 70 chapter and state council volunteer leaders from across the three states. In addition to a great variety ofnetworking and best-practice sharing sessions, attendees were provided with an overview ofthe SHRM volunteer structure and available resources. Conference sponsors ADP, JobCorps and Bearing Star Insurance helped offset the conference costs, and everyone was treated to a great keynote presentation by author David A. O’Brien entitled, “Team Building and the Leadership Role.” Participants also received a copy of O’Brien’s new book, “The Navigator’s Handbook: 101 Leadership Lessons for Work & Life,” as a gift from their respective state council in recognition of their hard work and dedication as volunteers. All in all, it was an exceptional event in a beautiful venue—and a great example ofwhat can happen when three states combine efforts to invest in the development oftheir volunteer leaders. Hats off to CT, MA and RI! Your Northeast Regional Team, Susan, Phyllis & Liz February 2009 Update for the Northeast Region

of customer service for our members and volunteers.
For the Northeast Region, the assignments are as follows:
CT, MA, ME, NH, NY, RI, VT – Susan Post, Field Services Director
DE, MD, NJ, PA – Phyllis Shurn-Hannah, Field Services Director
Liz van Berg will continue to serve as Regional Administrator for all eleven states.
By having accountability for smaller territories, each Field Services Director will be able to
