Speakers:
Costas Papanicolas, Head of Solar Energy and Desalination, The Cyprus Institute
Antonio Casañas, Account Manager, Dow Water & Process Solutions
Miriam Balaban, Secretary General, European Desalination Society
Manuel Rubio Visiers, President, AEDyR
1.3.2 Fresh water demands in Gulf Countries
The participants had the opportunity to:
Obtain in depth details on how Qatar plans to get fresh water from solar power, so
you can design your own strategy for CSP- SWD plants in the country
Envision how Saudi Arabia´s huge fresh water demand can be satisfied by CSP
technology, so you are the first to seize this lucrative opportunity
Speakers:
Dr Ibrahim Altisan, DG Manager, Saline Water Conversion Corporation - Saudi
Arabia
Mohamed Darwish, Solar Desalination Scientist, Qatar Environment & Energy
Research Institute
Karen Stummeyer, Desalination Expert, Fichtner
1.3.3 Extending the value chain of CSPSWD in India
The participants had the opportunity to:
Learn how hybridisation at a CSP-SWD plant can ensure constant availability of
energy and fresh water to meet Indian demands
Understand how a CSP-SWD plant can be adapted to suit the multiple requirements
of rural communities in India so you can offer a solar solution even in remote
locations
Analyse how to improve the acceptability and economic viability of CSP through its
hybridisation with SWD in India to diversify your project pipeline
Speaker
Manoj Divakaran, President and COO, Empereal

2 SOL-BRINE Information Kiosk
2.1 Information kiosk The information kiosk was installed at the place illustrated in Figure 2-1.
2.2 Dissemination material used During the conference the SOL-BRINE team networked with major CSP players (more than
300 conference attendees). It must be noted that the information kiosk attracted great
attention. The dissemination material used involved:
2 banners (see also Figure 4-2 and Annex I);
Leaflets (see also Figure 4-3); and
DVD (see also Figure 4-3).
It must be noted that during the conference many companies and universities/technical
institutions expressed interest for applying the system at bigger scale.

3 Visit to PSA
The working team visited the PSA installations in Almeria on the 11th of November 2013. A
dedicated tour to the solar desalination installations was realized. The working team had
communicated with Dr. Zaragoza (invited speaker at the WIN4Life International Conference
organized in the context of the SOL-BRINE project) so as to organize a visit to the 14-effect
MED desalination unit. The trip contributed significantly in the capacity building of the
working team, particularly for making concrete full-scale suggestions for the SOL-BRINE
innovative process.
