A Sustainable Tourism InitiativeMyEGYPT  

A destination marketing campaign that uses high-quality, entertaining storytelling with cultural media to attract tourists– Egyptian and foreign – to a journey of exploration and discovery in Egypt.

The platform is based on the input and participation of the Egyptian public and other focus groups (e.g. foreign visitors, cultural bodies, local institutions and businesses etc.).

Participants share and manage stories about Egypt’s cultural heritage in order to foster culture, tourism and entrepreneurship.

What is MyEGYPT ?

Egypt’s economic circumstances are tied directly to the country’s tourism industry. As one of Egypt’s main sources of hard currency, tourism contributes significantly to the national economy, as well as local economies, and to the livelihoods of approximately one-fifth of the Egyptian population. Since the beginning of the revolution in January 2011, Egypt has struggled to build tourism numbers and economy.

Where is the need?

High-quality and entertaining engagement with cultural material that reduces fears about travelling and creates a desire to visit and explore;

greater inclusion of local institutions, organizations and businesses to foster culture, tourism and entrepreneurship; and

the creation of a space for Egyptians and visitors alike to share their positive experiences in Egypt with others.

Our Solution

Cultural travellers, niche travellers, adventure travelers, domestic travellers and related media outlets (e.g. independent travel, experiential travel, transformative travel, sustainable tourism etc.);

Who is our audience?

Content creation (videos, slideshows and photo essays, articles etc.)

Live events (forums, dialogues, roundtables, workshops & trainings etc.)

Advertising Suite (to produce ad campaigns for media and tourism outlets: print, TV etc.)

Digital curation (to ensure that all content and materials are managed and preserved and remain accessible to audiences)

Social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube etc.)

How you can participate and engage with us…

Develop content into mainstream media (books, documentaries etc.) that can be marketed to larger audiences, offering greater exposure for content creators and local organizations and businesses.

Create merchandise (posters, t-shirts etc.) inspired by contributor content that can be sold through the MyEGYPT website; a share of the proceeds for any one item would go directly to the content creator.

Create regular local events and an annual travel experience (MyEGYPT Expeditions), where participants can experience the unique culture and heritage of Egypt through intimate talks, meals, and activities with local experts and specialists across a variety of industries. A portion of registration fees would go toward supporting participating organizations.
