population• Italy Population has surpassed 60 million as

per the 2009 estimates. It is the forth largest populated country of Europe and ranks twenty third in the world chart. And in terms of population density, the country stands fifth all over Europe. There are 200 persons approx residing in every square kilometre of land area. Rome is the most populated city in Italy with 2,761,477.

Pope and the vatican• Pope: Pope Benedict XVI is a

quiet, humble and very clever man. He is the 265th Pope since the time of Jesus (St Peter was the first) . Vaticans: The Pope lives and works in the Vatican, in Rome, Italy. On most Sundays he gives a special message and blessing to pilgrims who gather at St Peter’s Square, and to people throughout the whole world.He was ordained a priest in 1951. He was elected to be Pope in April 2005 after the death of Pope John Paul II.

volcano• Did you know that so many

people live near the volcano because its so popular in Italy and it is a landmark in Italy too. Today two million people live in the immediate vicinity of Mount Vesuvius. This mountain has erupted more than 50 times since the eruption in 79 A.D., when it buried Pompeii and its sister city, Herculaneum. After Pompeii was buried and lost to history, the volcano continued to erupt every 100 years until about 1037 A.D.

Tourist attraction

The leaning tower of Pisa is one of the most favourite tourist

attractions in Italy. It looks like it will fall but it is very strong and it might

not fall for a long time

The Coliseum is probably the most famous landmark in Rome. Built in the 1st century AD, this

great arena could seat 45,000 spectators . The name “coliseum " was not used until 7th century, and derives from the colossal statue of Nero that

once stood here.

Famous people Leonardo da vinci was a great artist and a

great sculptor. He painted the Mona Lisa and now it is

about 508 years old. Leonardo was born in 1852 and died

in ........ Leonardo Da Vinci was artist and scientist.

He conceived his forst design for a flying machine in c. 1488 more than 400 years before the first airplane took off. Leonardo is famous for his masterly paintings, such as The Last Supper and Mona Lisa.

was born March 17, 1939, Cusano, Milan, Italy.* As an AC Milan player, wins two league titles (1962, 1968), two European Cups (1963, 1969), the Copa Italia (1967), and the European Cup Winners' Cup (1968). Leaves A.C Milan in 1971 for FC Varese before retiring having won 17 caps.

Italy and Ireland Differences and similarities
