Galle Popular for its iconic Fort, harbour and the gorgeous beaches, Galle is the most busiest city in the southern province in Sri Lanka.

It is only a one hour drive from Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

Galle Fort, Unawatuna Beach, Koggala Lake, Japanese Peace Pagoda and Martin Wickramasinghe Museum are some of the must visit places around Galle.

This is an ancient fortress built by the Portuguese and later used by the Dutch and the British.

This Fort is also known as the best-preserved Sea-Fort in South Asia.

Unawatuna Beach

Famous for its sandy beach, corals and clean waters, Unawatuna is only about 5kms away from Galle.

Nearby activities include diving, snorkeling, sun-bathing and boat rides.

Nearby attractions include Rumassala, Japanese Peace Pagoda and Jungle Beach.

Japanese Peace Pagoda Built by the Japanese to symbolize peace in Japan after the atomic bombs, this is one in eighty peace pagodas built around the world.

The Peace Pagoda is located in Rumassala which according to the legends is said to be a piece of Himalaya brought by Hanuman to collect his medicinal plants.

Peace Pagoda and Rumassala is only a 10 minutes drive from Galle.

Martin Wickramasinghe Museum

This is the Residence of late Martin Wickramasinghe, the famous novelist in Sri Lanka during the 20th Century.

Museum complex includes his old house, his belongings, his writing desk, local coconut oil extractor and many more.

Its only a 20 minute drive from Galle.

Koggala Lake If you are a bird watcher, this is the ideal place to be.

This lake attracts a wide range of birds as well as it has some famous small islands such as Madol Duwa.

It is less than 20 minutes drive from Galle.
