What was the purpose of Magellan in coming to the Philippines?
4. Presentation (to be read by the teacher then post the Manila paper written on it, the selection for the pupils to read).
Read the story below.
One bright sunny day of April 1521, Lapu-lapu, king of Mactan, received a message from Humabon, the king of Cebu. The message was about the arrival of Ferdinand Magellan
in Cebu with three large ships and many men aboard. With them were treasures and arms some of which they had given to Humabon.
Magellan wanted all the people, including Humabon to pay tribute to his king. Lapu-lapu did not like the idea. When Magellan heard about this, he sent his men to burn the village
called Bulalaia.
After the fire, a messenger arrived. He told Lapu-lapu that Magellan would burn the village if Lapu-lapu would not pay tribute to Magellan in the name of the King of Spain.
Lapu-lapu called all his men armed with spears, lances, and arrows. He was ready for war against Magellan.
For the battle site, Lapu-lapu choose a tricky site of the sea which was filled with coral reefs.
The battle went on. Magellan was wounded until he fell and die in the shallows.

a. Read the selection to the classFirst, we slice the apples. Then, we simmered them in a saucepan unter they were tender. Next, we added sugar and left the stew cool. When it was cold, we stirred in yogurt. We then spooned the stewed apple into dishes and sprinkled each one with crushed fruit and nut bars. Finally, we decorated each dish with apple slices.

“Sinugno”
Ingredients:
½ cup pop mongo (browned)
1 cup cooked rice malagkit
1 cup sugar
3 cups coconut milk
4 cups water
Instructions:
Bring water to boil. Add cooked rice, simmer for 5
minutes then add browned mongo, sugar and let it
simmer for another 5 minutes. Add the coconut milk.
Bring to boil. After few minutes serve it hot.

Tell the pupils to form four lines with equal
number of members. Read the directions to the
class, if the group followed the directions, they will
step forward two times. The group who makes the
most number of steps will be the winner.
