Students should already have experience with solving multiplication and division problems. Students will use this reasoning to solve ratio and rate problems. Objective: Students will demonstrate their understanding of the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. Materials: Ratio Worksheets and Math Textbook Smart board Inspiration Pictures of animals and technological devices Procedure: 1) Teacher will lecture, showing examples to explain the idea that when comparing two characteristics of an item, the ratio is the same no matter how many items you have. (For example: the ratio of legs to beaks on a duck are the same no matter how many ducks you have). 2) Discussion and practice through group activity in groups of 2 or 3 and opportunity to ask questions as needed. 3) Review and homework practice with the opportunity to ask questions if needed.
