IntroductionPurposeTo describe electrical works associated with installation of exposed conduits for protection of power cables from mechanical abuse and a serious fire risk if the wires are damaged or cut.ScopeThis method statement is covering the electrical works related to areas having cables running outside concrete walls, brick walls, and floor slabs. In any room where aesthetics are not an issue, such as an unfinished basement, mechanical room or garage, steel conduit is a good choice to enclose exposed wiring. Works are carried out basing on construction schedule and detailed shop drawings approved.ExclusionInstallation of the embedded conduitsGeneralProgram (Working period: 5-May-2015 ~ 4-April-2016)NoTaskWorking timeThe number of labor

Conduit boxes will be connected with appropriate sized conduits. The routing of the conduits that be exposed shall be according to approved shop drawings. After finishing the concrete /brick wall, mark the conduit routing as per approved shop drawing.Install the Steel and Flexible steel conduit in straight runs and without any diagonal layout. The exposed conduits shall be held in the right position by using the saddles which are installed directly to the concrete/brick wall.Distance between two saddles shall be followed as shown on Table-1.

Conduit sizeMaximum distance between saddles

201.2 m

251.5 m

321.8 m

Maximum distance from saddles to boxes : 0.3 m

Maximum distance from tangential line to saddles : 0.3 m

Standard of saddle spacing (Ref: BS 31)Table-1The maximum permissible length of the metallic flexible conduit used for the connection to the fixture unit should not exceed 2000mm (see detail 03).Install straps or other means of securing the conduit in place is spaced much closer together (every 1500mm and within 300mm. of each end) for flexible conduit than is necessary for rigid conduit (see detail 01). To provide flexible conduit for exposed conduit installation where have the expansion joints, joint for fixtures, and equipments (see Detail-01 to Detail-05).Always lay the exposed steel conduits parallel or perpendicular to walls and structural members.Minimize the number of bends in any single conduit run. Follow minimum bend radius requirement.Bushings, locknuts, couplings, connectors are made up tight to ensure good continuity. Use double locknuts when insulating bushing is used.Install boxes with a separate supports.

Install pull wires in all empty conduits.Check boxes are covered after installation.
