S cooter maven Joel Martin hit the Lones- tar state in style starting with Scoot2Texas with Kymco May 23-28. The assembled journalists took to the streets of San Antonio testing the Downtown 300i and the Xciting 500cc. In addition to the press pack, everyone from the presi- dent to the logistics manager was there showing that the Kymco team not only sells scooters, but they ride them as well. Next, Martin scooted across town to Amerivespa, which was also held in San Antonio, May 27-31. The event, which at- tracted more than 450 scooterists, has grown from its vintage-only roots to be- come the largest scooter event in the U.S. “It’s the most inclusive event I’ve ex- perienced with riders of all back- grounds, ethnic groups, nationalities and worldwide appeal,” says Martin. “I met riders that flew in from as far away as Germany and Japan to attend the event.” The event garnered serious industry support with the likes of Kymco, SYM - Carter, Peirspeed, Genuine and more on hand. “In my opinion, this was a better event for any scooter company to attend than even the Dealer Expo since it gives store owners, consumers and industry experts a chance to interact and talk in a stress-free environ- ment,” says Martin. “Many new stores brought employees so they could con- nect with the scene and understand their customer base, which I found to be interesting. From newbies on their first scooters to people that have trekked across America, there was something for everyone.” If you cater to that long-distance scooter crowd, stock up on scooter P&A starting with the treads on the following page …
