THE ARIZONA MOVE ON WHEN READY INITIATIVE
OCTOBER 2011 INFORMATIONAL SESSION
Sybil Francis, Ph.D., Executive Director
Amanda Burke, Director, Education Strategy and Innovation
The Move On When Ready Concept
• Clearly identify for students what they need to know to graduate
college-and-career-ready, and provide a way for them to get there -
with less worry about how long it takes
• Move away from a “one-size-fits-all” industrial-era system to one that
is adaptive to individual student interests and needs
• Bring proven world-class instructional systems aligned to national
and internationally benchmarked standards to Arizona high schools,
moving us towards performance-based learning and away from time-
based learning
• Greatly increase the number of high school students who leave high
school ready to do college-level work without remediation, opening
up multiple pathways for students

• School recruitment for 2012 underway; 3 schools already committed
Early Adopter Schools
• Learning Collaborative established by CFA to facilitate knowledge sharing and communication across all partner schools – all early adopters schools are participating [meets monthly]
• Campus design teams established by CFA in each school; design teams collaborate with CFA and the National Center on Education and the Economy in planning and implementation [meet monthly]
