CHURCH COVENANT •

Having given ourselves to God, by faith in Christ and adopted the Word of God as our rule of faith and practice, we now give ourselves to one another by the will of God in this solemn covenant.

• •

· · ····We promise by His grace to love and obey Him in all things, to avoid all appearance of evil, to abstain. from all sinful amusements and unholy conformity to the world, from all sanction of the use and sale ·of intoxicating beverages, and to "provide things honest in the sight of all men."

We agree faithfully to discharge our obligations in reference to the study of the Scriptures, secret prayer, family devotions, and social worship; and by self-denial, faith, and ·good works endeavor to "grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together for church conferences, public worship, and the observance of the ordinance . of the Gospel, nor fail to pay according to our ability for the support of the church, of its poor, and all its benevolent work .

We agree to accept Christian admonition and reproof with meekness, and to watch over one another in love, endeavoring to "keep the unity of the Spirit" in the bonds of peace to be careful of one another's happiness and admonish the erring, and as far as we are able promote the success of the church and of the Gospel.

We will everywhere hold Christian principle sacred and. Christian obligations and enterprises supreme; counting it our chief business· in life to extend the influence of Christ in society; constantly praying and toiling that the Kingdom of God may come, and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

To this end we agree to labor for the promotion of educational and denomination enterprises, the support . of Missions, the success of Sunday schools, and evangelistic efforts for the salvation of the World. And may the God of peace sanctify us wholly, and preserve us blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ARTICLES OF FAITH

I. We believe that there is but one living, true and eternal God, the Father of whom are all things from everlasting to everlasting glorious and immutable in all His attribute. -1 Cor. 8:6; lsa. 40:28.

2. We believe that there is one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, the only begotten Son of God born of the Virgin Mary whom God freely sent into the world because of tjle great ·Jove wherewith He loved the world; and Christ freely gave Himself as ransom ·for all, tasting death for every man; who was buried and rose again the third day, and ascended · into Heaven at the last day to judge both the quick and dead. -1 Tim. 2:56; Heb. 2.9; St. John 3:16; Rev. 1-7; Acts 2:15; 1 John 2:2.

3. We believe that there is only one Holy Ghost, the precious gift of the Father through His dear son unto the world, who quickeneth and draweth sinners home to God. -St. John 16:7; Eph. 2:1; Eph. 4:4-6.

1

Page 4: MOUNTOLI VE ASSOCI

4. We believe that in the beginning God made man upright and placed him in a state of glory without the least mixture of misery, from which he· voluntarily by transgression, fell and by that . means brought on himself a miserable and moral state subject to death. -Gen. 2:17; 3-19.

5. We believe that God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance and the knowlet:Ige of the truth; that they might be saved; for which end Christ hath commanded the Gospel to be preached among all nations and to every creature. -Mark 16: 16; Luke 24:47; John 3:15-17.

6. We believe that no man shall suffer in hell for want of a Christ who died for him but as the Scripture has said, for denying the 'Lord that bought them; becaust; they believe not in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Unbelief, therefore, being the cause why the just and the righteous God of Heaven will condemn the children of I_!len; it follows against all contradiction that all men at one time or· other are found in such · capacity as through the grace of God they may be eternally saved. -Acts 17:30; Mark 6:6; Heb. 3:10; 1 John 5:10.

7. We believe the whole Scriptures are infallibly true and that they are the only rules of faith and practice. -II Tim. 3: 16-17.

8. We believe in the doctrine of General Provision made of God to Christ for the benefit of all mankind, who repent and believe the. Gospel; -Luke 14:16-20; Matt. 28:19-20; Luke 13:3-5; Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; Mark 1:15.

9. We believe that sinners are drawn to God the Father, by the Holy Ghost, through Christ His Son and that the Holy Ghost offers His Divine aid to all the human family, so as they might be happy, would they give impression of His Holy Spirit, shall at a future day, own damnation, for willfully rejecting the offers of sovereign grace. -Matt. n:27; .St. John 6:44; Psalms 1: 1; Tit. 2: 11; Jer. 22:29.

1.0. _We believe that men, not considered simply as men but ungodly men of old were ordained to condemnation; considered such who turn the grace of God into lasciviousness, denying the Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ who brought them, and therefore shall bring upon themselves swift destruction, but we observe that they, and such the apostles saith because they receive not the love of the truth that they might be saved; therefore the indignation and wrath of God is upon every soul of man that doeth evil, living and dying therein; for there is no respect of persons with God -Jude 1:14; II Peter 2:1; II Thes. 2:11-12; Rom. 2:9-11. ,

11. We believe that ,all children dying in infancy, having not actually transgressed against the. law of God in their own persons are only subject to the first death, which was brought on them by the first Adam, and not that. any one of them dying in that~state, shall suffer punishment in hell by .the guilt of Adams sin for such is the kingdom of God. -1 Cor. 15:22; Matt. 18:2-5; Mark 9:36~37; Matt. 19:14.

12. We believe that good works are the fruits of saving faith, and that in the use of the means of grace and not out of the use of those means, eternal

·life is promised to man. -Rev. 22:15"16; Isa. 1:19-20; Matt. 7-8; Jer. 6:16; Luke 13:34-35.

13. We believe that no man has any warrant in the Holy Scriptures for justification before God through his own works, power or . ability which ·he has in and of himself; only as he by grace ~s. made l,lble to come to God, through Jesus Christ, to be imputed to all believers for their eternal acceptance with God. -Rom. 4:24; Acts 8:20-21.

2

Page 5: MOUNTOLI VE ASSOCI

14. We believe that all things are forseen in the wisdom of God so that God knoweth whatsoever can or cannot come to pass upon all supposed conditions, yet not as having decreed any person to everlasting death or everlasting life out of respect or mere godly unto life and the ungodly, who die in sin unto death. -Heb. 4:13; Prov. 8:21-22; Matt. 25-31-46.

15. We believe, as touching Gospel ordinance, in believer's baptism, laying on of hands, receiving of the sacrament in bread and wine, washing the

. saints feet, anointing the sick with oil · in the name of the Lord, fasting. prayer, singing praise to God and the public ministry of the word, with every institution of the Lord we shall find in the New Testament. -Mark 16:15-16; Acts 19:6; Luke 22:19-20; John 13:5-17; Jas. 5:14.

16. We believe the Gospel of Baptism is by immersion, and that believers are the only subject for baptism. -Matt. 3: 16; Mark .1 :9-10; Acts 2:38-39; Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12.

17. We believe in a general resurrection of the dead and a final judgment at the last day. -John 5 :28-29; II Cor. 5:10.

18. We believe the happiness of the righteous is eternal and the torment of the wicked is .endless. -Matt. 25:46.

19. We believe in individual, personal, conditional Perseverance of the Saints. There are strong grounds to hope that the truly regenerate will persevere unto the end, and be saved, through the power of divine grace which is pledged for tl:leir support,! but their future obedience and final salvation are neither determined nor certain, since through infirmity and manifold temptations they are in danger of falling; and they ought, therefore, to watch and pray lest they make shipwreck of their faith and be lost.2 I -Rom. 8:38, 39; I Cor. 10:13; 2 Cor. 12:9; Job 17:9; Matt. 16:18; John 10:27, 28; Phil. 1:6 2 2 Chron. 15:2; 2 Pet. 1:10; Ezek. 33:18; John 15:6; I Cor. 10:12; I Chron. 28:9; Rev. 2:4; I Tim. 1:19; 2 Pet. 2:20, 21; I Cor. 9:27; Matt. 24:13; Acts 1:25; Rev. 22:19.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

FINANCE

We, your committee on Finance, agree that each church send $25 with a letter to the association for expense of printing of the minutes, $4 of said amount to go to the association a( clerk for expenses. A report is to be sent with the letter of the yearly expenses of the church, consisting of pastors' and evangelists' offerings and upkeep of the building.

We also agree that each church should take as many freewill offerings as are necessary to supply the needs of their pastor and their church to keep it a growing and prosperous church.

We also agree that each church should ask their treasurer to send $7.50 each month or $15 every two months to the associational treasurer to be used for its growth and up-building for God's Kingdom. This is not compulsory, but as though an act of love or free will. Should any church desire to send more than $7.50 they could do so of their own free will and mail said amount to:

Jimmie Logan, General Delivery, Rockholds, Ky. Signed: Clarence Perry, George Blankenship, Jim Hurst

TEMPERANCE

We, your committee on Temperance, agree to abstain from all intoxicating drinks and that our conversation be godly, and that our daily walks be Christ-like. The Word teaches us to walk honestly, as in a day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in clambering wantonness; not in strife and envying (Romans 13:3); that the aged man be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience (Titus 2:2); Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man shall draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him (Hebrews 10:38) "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, right dividing the word of truth." (II Timothy 2:15) ..

Signed: Della Ball, Grace Blankenship, Thelma Anderson

RESOLUTIONS

God, in His great love and grace, has brought us together again, and has given us a great spirit of co-operation and a ·renewed vision of the task He has set up for us.

Be it therefore resolved that we give God all the glory and praise for everything accomplished by us, His servants, during the year; that we give thanks to Him for answering our prayers according to His blessings and goodwill.

Be it resolved that the pastors ·and preachers in our churches study the Bible on tithing and stress the need of tithing for the advancement and up-building of the cause and Kingdom of God.

Be it further resolved that we recognize the Holy Spirit as the all-sufficient leader of every child of God and the church; the Bible as the divinely inspired book and every man as in error when he violates any part of it; that the Word of God and the Holy Spirit yet in the world be recognized as sufficient to cause us to lengthen our cords and strengthen our stakes for God.

Signed: Bill Childress, Dave Lockwood, Millard Wright

OBITUARY

We, your committee on Obituaries agree that each church clerk keep a record of all deceased members of their church and send a copy to the yearly conference, which shall be printed in the minutes. Also, that the associational treasurer shall have the right to buy each minister and deacon a $20 floral spray and pay for same from the associational treasury.

Signed: Barbara Barton, Louise Clemens, Betty Brown

SUNDAY SCHOOL

We, your committee on Sunday School, recommend that each church have a Sunday School; that all teachers be Christians and that we get teachers from our own church or our sister churches. That all teach the Word of God as it comes from the Bible (Ephesians 6:4), and ye fathers provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. That all Sunday School literature be approved by the Sunday School and pastor of the church. Also that each Sunday School elect or re-elect teachers and officers once a year or quarterly. We feel that all teachers should remain for Church Services after Sunday School.
