THE PITTSTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS PLANNED THE FOLLOWING EVENT:“Factors Leading to the American Civil War” is the title of a talk to be given by Ken Miller on June20th at 7:30 PM at the Pittstown Town Hall in Tomhannock. Miller will outline the crescendo of events and compromises leading to the Civil War, examining how issues of the economy andslavery are intertwined. He will also discuss whether the Civil War was caused by economic orsocial pressures. Miller is a retired professor of chemistry from RPI. He is also is a trustee of thePittstown Historical Society and an accomplished wood and metal worker. In recent years, he haspursued interests in history. WHIPPLE CITY FESTIVAL- Come join us in Greenwich June 14 and 15 for the Whipple CityFestival. This year, the Whipple City Festival will feature living history demonstrations in Dorr Park.On Saturday June 15th there will be three regiments reenacting three different periods in history. The
nd Continental Artillery Regiment is a group of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War. A Cannonwill be on display as well as firearms from that period. Musket firings will take place at different times
uring the day and several campsites will be set for display with re-enactors in period dress. The25th NY Regiment Association will be representing the Civil War period. This living history groupepresents a typical military campsite of 1861 and is chartered with the NYS Education Department.
Tents and campsites will be set up. This group will have musket firings during the festival and woodenmuskets will be available for children to help the re-enactors do musket drills. The 99th InfantryDivision will be representing World War II. A field table, 4-5 pup tents, an ammo box as well as WWIIweapons will be on display. Also in Dorr Park will be The Greenwich Town Historian and the Willa rdMountain DAR and Northstar organization with information booths and items for sale. WWII on Saturday of the festiva l in Mowry Park. ORAL HISTORY PROJECT- The Warren County Historical Society will be conducting oralhistory interviews during the Rural Heritage Festival and Youth Fair at the Warren County Fair-grounds in Warrensburg, NY on August 10th. The Warren County Historical Society is searchingfor individuals who would like to participate and are specifically interest in talking with individu-
als who have some knowledge in three specific areas: World War II Memories: We are looking forindividuals who have memories of The Home Front during WWII (1941-45). Do you rememberPearl Harbor, D-Day, the elect ion of 1944, and FDR’s death? Also do you remember V-E Day andV-J Day, rationing, victory gardens, movies, songs, etc.? Fairs in Warren County: We are interestedin talking with individuals who remember the various County Fairs in Warrensburg – and perhapsother locations – through the 1960s. Churches: We are looking for individuals who have an interestin the importance of churches in the development of a community. It would be especially interest-ing to learn why a particular congregation formed in a particular community, and what influence thepeople of the church had on the community, and the role of the church in creating a gathering placefor people to meet for social events. ing in the forefront of VARAK Park. Once a newspaper printshop, the building’s high ceilings and industrial design set thestage for a unique space in which visitors will enjoy viewing theexhibited art.
