Reflections on the

Cover Page

The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab

published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

Pahatana’ in Yoga Varta's issue for the month of

January 2014 has been excellently translated into

English by Shri Nitin Tawde (YVN's Yoga Teacher of

39th batch of YTTC). The said English version of Shri

Shreedhar Parab's article in Marathi is being

published hereunder with profound thanks to Shri

Nitin Tawde whose mobile no. is 9819186655).

The picture of ‘OMKAR’ at the centre, surrounded

by the five fundamental elements Prithvi, Aap, Teja,

Vayu, Akash and the description below stating

"AmË_VÎd (M¡VÝ`) … n§M_hm^yVm§À`m gm_Ï`m©Mm _ycòmoV'meaning ‘Atma Tatva (Chaitanya), the primary source

of the power of the Panchamahabhutas’ on the cover

page of Yogavarta reminded me of my favourite

parable from the Marathi book titled "gwIñdmñÏ`mgmR>r{ZgJ©OrdZ' (Natural Living for Happiness and Health) written by

our respected Nimbalkar Guruji. It goes like that : once the five

Mahabhutas - Prithvi, Aap, Teja, Vayu and Akash were playing in the

courtyard of the Nature (Prakriti). Just like the children have trivial

disputes while playing, the Panchamahabhutas too had similar

arguments. Then each one of them started vehemently arguing about

the importance of his own position in the Universe. Akash said, “I am

the first, senior-most and infinite. This whole universe is in fact created

by the reverberations of my sound. If I take away my cavities, the entire

universe will be destroyed.” Listening to this, Vayu Tatva could not

Page 4: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

contain himself. Vayu said, “All the animal and plant life is alive because

of me only. I am so powerful and speedy that nobody can stop me. I can

destroy this creation any moment with a thunderous storm”. Listening

to the bragging of Akash and Vayu, Agni - the Teja Tatva couldn't control

his ire. Agni stepped ahead aggressively and said, “I only provide light

and heat to the entire world in the form of the Sun. The very existence

of the life is because of the Sun. The entire world will be in the dark if

I withdraw the luminosity of the Sun. Life will be impossible in the world

if I don't produce fire”. Upon this, the Water - the Jala Tatva hurriedly

came forward saying, “Do I need to tell you how enormous is my

existence in the world? Life is possible only because of me. The life

cannot exist without me. If I get furious, it would be disastrous and the

entire world would be washed off”. The Prithvi Tatva was listening to all

this neutrally. Ultimately Prithvi too couldn't resist herself and entered

this argument. She said, “I possess the specific attributes of all of you,

means the ‘sound’ of Akash, ‘Touch’ of Vayu, ‘Form’ of Agni and ‘Taste’

of Jala in fractions but you have forgotten that only I have a specific

attribute ‘Smell’ which none of you have. The entire living and non-

living world is supported by me. I nurture the plant and animal life.

Hence, I am the supreme. If I get annoyed then there will be

earthquakes, landslides and the skyscrapers will be razed to the ground

instantly”. When all these Panchamahabhutas were fighting to establish

their supremacy, Atma Tatva was standing aside watching silently.

Seeing that their dispute has gone to the extreme, Atma Tatva, being an

elderly figure, decided that these five should be reprimanded in such a

way that they learn a lesson. The moment this thought coming to the

mind, Atma Tatva at once withdrew the vitality from all the five

Mahabhutas. Instantaneously all the Mahabhutas became powerless

one after another. The Akash collapsed. Vayu and Jala stopped flowing.

Agni doused and the Sun faded away. As a result, the entire living and

non-living world on the earth was destroyed and the earth became

deserted. The Panchamahabhutas realized their mistake when all of

Page 5: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

them became lifeless with the lack of vitality. They all then surrendered

to Atma Tatva. They apologized unconditionally to Atma Tatva and got

their individual vitality back. Their ego vanished and now they had

realized their limitations as well as responsibilities. Post this incidence,

no quarrels took place amongst the Panchamahabhutas. On the

contrary, the interpersonal relationship and cooperation amongst them

increased. As a result, the world started functioning normally. This

anecdote emphasizes the supremacy of the Atma Tatva.

In the past five magazines of ‘Yogavarta’, we have learned about the

Panchamahabhutas : Prithvi, Aap, Teja, Vayu and Akash. We have seen

that Prakriti created these Panchamahabhutas and with exception of

Akash, offered rest of the Mahabhutas, the part of attributes of some of

others along with their own specific attribute. The attributes and the

subsequent powers thereby were activated with the vitality received

from Atma Tatva. Therefore, the Panchamahabhutas could create and

nurture this world with cooperation amongst them. Since human being

is although tiny but significant fraction in this universe, there is no doubt

that for him too this Atma Tatva or the ‘Elan Vital’ is of immense

importance. The very life which we can see and experience too, right

from an ant to the man, as well as the amphibians, animals and plants

is because of this ‘Elan Vital’. The tiny ant can travel miles if not faced

with any obstacles. Some birds travel thousands of miles in search of

the favorable climatic conditions. All this is possible only because of this

‘Elan Vital’. Although the living beings are mortal, this ‘Elan Vital’ is

immortal. Since this ‘Elan Vital’ is indestructible, the cycle of the world

is constantly wheeling uninterrupted. Bhagvat Gita underlines the same

truth while saying “the death is certain for the one who takes birth and

birth is certain for the one who dies”. Till today, it has not become

possible for the man to create this Atma Tatva in laboratory because of

it’s divinity. We breathe continuously round the clock. Our internal

systems function uninterrupted even if we are sleeping. The food is

getting digested, blood is getting purified, pure blood is being circulated

Page 6: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

all across the body and impure blood is brought back to the heart for

purification from various parts of the body. Obviously then the thought

comes to mind who has been doing all these things? As an answer to

this, it is realized that all this is done by Atma Tatva. Atma Tatva is taking

care of us day in and day out. That’s the reason we can perform many

our chores absolutely worry-free. One of the renowned poets in Marathi

has described this truth very aptly in a very simple language, in one of

his poems as –

S>moù`m§Zr ~KVmo, ÜdZr n[agVmo H$mZr, nXr MmcVmo$&{OìhoZo ag Mm{IVmo, _Ywahr dmMo Amåhr ~mocVmo$&hmVmZo ~hþgmc H$m_ H$[aVmo, {dlm§Vr hr ¿`md`m$&KoVmo Pmon gwIo, {\$ê$Zr CR>Vmo hr B©œamMr X`m$&&We see by eyes, listen by ears, walk on feet,

Feel the taste by tongue, speak very sweet words,

Work a lot with hands and then to take the rest

We sleep and again get up next morning,

All this is by the mercy of The God.

The human body that the Man has got is believed to be a great

blessing by the God. As the God is omnipresent, it is present in the

human body too. The living force present in human being is the

indication of the God in the form of Atma Tatva. This ‘Elan Vital’ is

basically the form of the God. As the God has the infinite form similarly

this divine ‘Elan Vital’ too is in the infinite form. This truth has been

narrated marvellously in the last 6th verse of ‘Nirvana Shatakam’

composed by Adi Shankaracharya as –

Ah§ {Z{d©H$ënmo {ZamH$maê$n… {d^wì`m©ß` gd©Ì gd}pÝÐ`mUm_²$&gXm _o g_Ëd§ Z _w{º$Z© ~ÝY… {MXmZÝXê$n… {edmo@h§ {edmo@h§$&&6&&All our body and mind functions continue only till this Atma Tatva

resides within our body. When this Atma Tatva, which is the

fundamental power source of the Panchamahabhutas, leaves our body,

all the Panchamahabhutas functioning in our body become lifeless,

devoid of this fundamental power source. Then in spite of having rest of

Page 7: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

all other things, our body fails to do any work. With the departure of

Atma Tatva, there is no other alternative left for the lifeless body but to

again get merged into the nature. So, as not to forget the Supreme Atma

Tatva (the Divinity) anytime, Saint Tukaram Maharaj explains most

earnestly to all of us in his ‘Abhanga’ as –

Who is making our body move…

Who is making us talk….none but the Almighty God!

He is making us see, making us hear….

Never forget to remember Him

Man is there only because of God

Never say I am the doer

Even the leaf of the tree moves with His order

What can we be proud about then?

Says Tukaram …God is everywhere..inside out…

What else is left in the universe?

In other words, the success, happiness, pleasures and peace is easily

established in the lives of such people who are continuously well aware

of this form of the Self. It has been assured by many Saints, Mahantas,

Rishis, Munis and Yogis that the OMKAR Japa Sadhana (recitation of the

OMKAR) is very useful for constant awareness of the Divine God in the

form of Atma Tatva. As per the exponents of Vedanta, The Supreme

Divinity (Parameshwar) is attributeless and not confined to any shape or

Page 8: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

`moJdmVm©

form. He is called ‘Ishwar’ when observed with form and attributes.

Therefore, it may be deduced that Parameshwar and Ishwar are in a way

identical concepts. The OMKAR is the manifestation of the God in sound

form. According to one theory, OMKAR is the primordial resonance and

this entire Creation is evolved through it’s vibrations. OM is one word

aphorism that consists of three and half consonants and is considered

as the most powerful and highly superior one. OM consists of letters ‘A’,

‘U’ and ‘M’. According to Mandukya Upanishada whatever that was in

this world, whatever is now and whatever will be there, is ‘OM’. It is

believed that there are three deities namely Vaishwanar, Tejas and

Pradnya pertaining to the three states viz. awake world, dreaming world

and deep sleep respectively. The concise form of these three deities is

‘A’, ‘U’ and ‘M’. Similarly, it is also assumed that ‘A’ means Lord Brahma,

the creator of the Universe; ‘U’ means Lord Vishnu, the protector of the

Universe and ‘M’ means Lord Shiva, the destroyer of this Universe. It

has been experienced by many that the recitation of OMKAR is more

beneficial if practised with a belief that within OM resides the triad of

deities, viz. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh.

Maharshi Patanjali while guiding about OM recitation states in verse

number 1.27 and 1.28 of the Patanjalayogadarshan as –

Vñ` dmMH$… àUd…$&&V‚mnñVXW© ^mdZ_²$&&

It means ‘Pranava’ that is OMKAR is the symbol of ‘Him’, the Almighty

God. Therefore, Maharshi Patanjali suggests that the OMKAR should be

recited with the meaningful understanding. The word ‘Pranav’ consists

of two words ‘Pra’ and ‘Nav’. That means perpetually new and eternal.

The form of the Almighty God is also perpetually new. Thus, the Almighty

God (Ishwar) is indicated through Pranav. While pronouncing OMKAR, ‘A’

and ‘U’ are pronounced together as A+U = ‘O’. The utterance of ‘O’ is from

throat and lips, ‘M’ is uttered from lips and the consonant through nasal

passage. That means whilst pronouncing the OMKAR the throat, lips and

Page 9: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

`moJdmVm©

nasal passages should be brought into use. Sitting on a carpet or even

in a chair by maintaining the spine straight and in natural curvature with

eyes lightly closed and then after inhaling fully and exhaling slowly; as

many OMKAR as possible shall be chanted with mind completely involved

in it, in a Vaikhari Vaani (clear and free voice) or in a Madhyama Vaani

(very low tone audible only to self). While chanting, it has to be borne

in mind all the time that OM is the name and symbol of the Almighty God.

If the OMKAR Japa Sadhana is practised in this way then it’s benefits will

be multifold. Swami Vivekananda has suggested for a Seeker with family

bindings, a practice of maximum twelve cycles of a set of OMKAR in a

day, where each set consists of nine OMKAR i.e.108 OMKAR in total.

There are various opinions about the proportion of length of pronouncing

‘O’ and ‘M’ during utterance of OMKAR. Those seeking psychosomatic

benefits from OMKAR Japa Sadhana should take one third time for

pronouncing ‘O’ and two third time for pronouncing ‘M’ of the total time

required for uttering OMKAR. A Seeker can experience the pleasurable

and reassuring closeness of the Almighty God during OMKAR Japa

Sadhana when practised in this manner. The vibrating resonance emitting

from the OMKAR and it’s reverberations will give the Seeker a totally

pleasurable and peaceful, ecstatic, unique experience by practising

OMKAR Japa Sadhana. With such an OMKAR Japa Sadhana, you will look

within your mind at least for few moments which will provide you with

a precious opportunity to get merged into your true spiritual self, to be

in oneness with the Atma Tatva, and to deep dive into the divine

blissfulness. The Seeker who practices the OMKAR Japa Sadhana regularly

and for prolonged period with complete devotion, his physical, mental,

emotional and spiritual abilities will certainly get remarkably enhanced

and thereby he can easily attain the total personality development. You

will experience that the atmosphere in your house too becoming more

peaceful, sacred and joyous with sweet sound of OMKAR. Perhaps this

will inspire you to devote more time for practising Yoga.

Let’s now recollect first whatever resolutions we have made earlier

by viewing the symbolic pictures of the Panchamahabhutas, viz. Prithvi,

Aap, Teja, Vayu and Akash on the cover pages of past five month issues

of Yogavarta. Do you remember? There appeared a picture of the potter

shaping the clay on the spinning wheel on the cover page of one of the

past issues of Yogavarta. We had decided then to do most sincerely and

constructively whatever best efforts we can do to maintain the Prithvi

Tatva in its pure form. We made resolution to spare some time,

whenever possible, to lie down and relax by applying mud strips on

forehead and belly. We also decided then, whenever possible, to adopt

the rejuvenating health measures based on Prithvi Tatva in our daily

regime; by oil massaging, or by using homemade scented Utane. We

had seen a beautiful picture of a roaring waterfall cascading with

tremendous force on black boulders on cover page of another issue of

Yogavarta. We had decided then to become aware of the ‘Water

Literacy’ and sincerely strive to maintain this invaluable Jala Tatva in

good condition by abiding the laws of Nature and initiate every possible

effort for this cause. Then there was the picture of luminescent celestial

fireball, the Sun on one of the past issues of Yoga Varta. Our resolution

was then of practising Soorya Namaskar regularly, by witnessing the

dazzling Sun representing Agni Tatva. Not only that, we also made a

resolution to practise some Yogic Kriyas like ‘Kapalabhati’, ‘Agnisar’,

Pranayama like ‘Bhrastrika’ as well as other beneficial Yogic practices

like ‘Tadagi Mudra’, ‘Uddiyana Bandha’ or ‘Nauli Chalan Kriya’ to

maintain the digestive fire which is a representative of Agni Tatva.

Thereafter, we had seen on the Yogavarta cover page, the picture of

imposing windmill representing Vayu Tatva. Keeping witness to that

cover page, we had a resolution of maintaining the Vayu Tatva in its

purest form and to maintain our health not only in good condition but

to enhance it too by adopting various useful measures based on Vayu

Tatva. Then there was a picture of deep blue sky adorned with white

Page 11: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

clouds on the cover page of Yogavarta. Witnessing the infinite boundless

sky and becoming more aware of the importance of Akash Tatva in our

lives, we had decided to make rigorous attempts to maintain firmly the

balance of this health-promoting Tatva. Now, this month’s cover page

has made us realise that the fundamental source of the power of these

Panchamahabhutas is Atma Tatva that is the ‘Elan Vital’ which keeps

everything functioning. ‘Elan Vital’ is the symbol of life. Merely the

functioning of body doesn’t mean life. Maybe it is true from the

physiological point of view but the real and ultimate goal of ‘Elan Vital’

has to be to enhance the life qualitatively superior. Therefore, to keep

the awareness of the Divine Atma Tatva kindled in our mind forever,

which is the inspirational source behind all the activities and to

understand the entire functionality of life processes, we should recite

the following shloka and bow down to the OMKAR from our heart –

Am|H$ma {~ÝXþg§`wº§$ {ZË`§ Ü`m`pÝV `mo{JZ…$&H$m_X§ _mojX§ M¡d Amo§H$mam` Z_mo Z_…$&&

After this soul-stirring OMKAR naman, let us make a firmer resolution of

practising OMKAR Japa Sadhana on regular basis by putting our hearts

into it!

Free ThinkingE

Sadashiv Nimbalkar

(Tel. : 27895777)

WHY SOCRATES WAS LAUGHING AND ENJOYING

In societies, people come together for some

purpose. The leaders frame the rules of conduct and

behaviour. The thinkers, philosophers and leaders of

their time establish the religion, the concept of God

and social structures. The supreme head and the

religious head frame the laws, orders and the rules,

regulations for maintaining discipline and control over the society. Such

traditional rules soon become iron frame. Those who behave against

these traditional rules and regulations are usually punished very

severely.

There always have been some truth-seekers, philosophers and free-

thinkers in all the ages, who did not agree with the tradition. They spoke

and taught against the traditional concepts, religious dogmas, social

conventions, etc. Such rebels revolt against social concepts. They

behave and speak against the tradition. The political leaders, religious

heads, social chiefs do not like such people who go against tradition and

religious laws and revolt against the present set-up. Such rebellious

persons are usually punished severely, tortured harshly and cruelly but

those truth-seekers and philosophers never surrender or submit to the

traditional demands. They die courageously bearing the severe

punishment. They tolerate the torture and cruelty but never give-up the

truth.

One of such free-thinkers' story told by Osho is very interesting,

instructive and enlightening too.

Socrates was a great free-thinker and philosopher of his time. He

revolted against the tradition. As a punishment, he was given poison to

drink. But he was happy and laughing. One of his disciples named Creto

asked him, ''Sir, you are given poison to drink and still you are laughing?

Death is so near of you. Our eyes are full of tears. This is a very serious,

sorrowful and sad time and yet, you are cheerful and enjoying. How is

that?''

Socrates calmly replied, ''Where is the sadness? If I die where will

remain this sadness and who will be sorry? Nobody will be sad and

painful. And even if I die, I will remain in the form of my deeds and

words. If this is so, where is the need to have sadness or sorrow? With

death, my body will be lost but not me. I am that which remains even

after the death. Death can destroy my physical body but it can not even

touch my spirit and thoughts. I am laughing and enjoying over the

poverty of the death and the foolishness of the people who sent poison

for destroying me and my philosophy.''

''Were they not successful?'' asked Creto. In response to this

question, Socrates laughed and said, "My body was a perishable

material which can be exterminated by poison but my spirit, philosophy

and free-thinking is immortal and eternal. Can they destroy it? I will

remain alive because of that. That is why I am laughing and enjoying.''

YOGA FOR PEACE

E

Anviti

(1st Prize Winner Essay, 40th YTTC, Vashi. Mob. : 8080268484)

Yoga is an ancient Indian philosophical

perspective or discipline that essentially means ‘to

join’ and is said to bring from 'dwait' to 'adwait',

from gross to subtle and from 'prakriti' to 'purusha'.

Yoga is not just a philosophy. It is also a complete

way of living. It is believed that regular observance

of yogic way of life will lead the sadhaka on the

divine path towards the ultimate goal of self realization, samadhi and

merger with the supreme spirit or the 'paramatman'. Yoga is said to

enable us to shed the outer coverings we wear on our soul and it helps

reveal our true self. Yoga has been defined by Sage Patanjali as

'yogaschittavritthinirodhah' in Sanskrit which means Yoga restrains the

modifications of the mind. Bhagvat Geeta defines Yoga as 'yogah

karmasu kaushalam' which can be interpreted as yoga means doing

one's work well. Both these definitions lend Yoga towards the

interpretation that Yogic way of life helps enlighten the mind and further

us on the path of peace.

Peace is a concept that is valued the most by those who have

experienced its opposite extreme, conflict, the most. Those who live

through wars can readily testify that there is no winner in a war, only

losers. Yet, we all have witnessed countless wars in the short human life

span of our mortal coils. The reason for this seemingly illogical

occurrence is that the powers of our world are not at peace with each

other. These powers are nothing without the aspirations of individuals

at their helm. So then it follows reason that if these few individuals can

Page 19: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

`moJdmVm©

be at peace with each other then surely the world will be at peace with

each other and there will be no conflict and thus no losers. So then the

question arises is that why hasn’t this happened already if it makes

sense. One of the primary reasons for increased conflict in our world

has been the so called rapid growth in so called civilization of mankind

over the past few centuries. How conflicts and wars can be called civil

is another matter not under the scope of present discourse but

interesting nonetheless. Growth and development of human served to

increase their greed and fueled their desires for more. Man was then

insensible to the havoc created to attain his goals. People turned away

from the path of peace and common sense and committed numerous

sins in the name of peace, sacrifice, and God among others. However,

we justify the actions of those who are involved in such conflicts, we

can never justify that conflict is good for anyone in the long run. Peace

is what we all ultimately seek and desire. Not power, not money, not

influence, in the end all one wants the most is love and peace around.

So the question that then remains is how should one go about getting

this peace with others. One of the most profound insights gained by

philosophers over the past centuries is that to be at peace with others,

one must first be at peace within oneself. Inner peace is not elusive at

all. It is within reach of those who seek it truly with dedication and

sincerity. Inner peace is the actual truth and rest all is the illusion or the

‘moh maya’ of the worldly existence. It is only our wants, desires and

greed that keep us away from attaining peace within ourselves. Sincere

practice of Yoga help us overcome these pitfalls created by coverings on

our soul. Dirt accumulates on our soul in form of attachments, greed,

desires and wants over the course of past and present lives. Yoga helps

remove this dirt and cleanse and reveal our true soul which is then

unencumbered by the restraints of worldly attachments and desires and

is free to begin the journey towards being one with the 'paramatman'.

Once we realize the true purpose of our life in this world, then the

worldly conflicts are rendered obsolete by our newly gained perspective

and we find them superficial and not worthy of expending our energy.

Page 20: `moJ-dmVm© YOGA – VARTA...5 Yoga Varta :September 2017 `moJdmVm© Reflections on the Cover Page The original Marathi article of Shri Shreedhar Parab published under the column ‘Mukhaprushtha

`moJdmVm©

Thus, once we can truly say that we are at peace with ourselves, the

question of being at peace with others gets resolved without any efforts

as it no longer holds any relevance. Peace is the ultimate prize, be it

within ourselves or with our brethren and surroundings.

Yoga helps us attain peace within and helps us understand the

futility of conflict with our surroundings. Yoga helps us understand the

positives around us and helps us ignore the negatives. It encourages

‘sam’ bhav which means that we are neither ecstatic in our happiness

nor drowning in our sorrows. It enables us to keep ourselves stable and

balanced through thick and thin of our worldly life. Living according to

the Yogic way of life not only cleanses our soul of dirt from past lives, it

also keeps us free of accumulating it in this life too, thus it opens up the

path of 'moksha' or self realization for us. Moksha is the ultimate

surrender of one's self to the supreme spirit. In fact, it is called reunion

of the indindual soul and 'paramatman' i.e. universal soul as it is

believed that every soul originates from 'paramatman' and ultimately

merges back into the same supreme being after completeing its worldly

voyage or voyages as the case may be. Thus, there can be no greater

peace than returning to the origin because just like the elastic band

reverts to its original state on being released to be in undisturbed

equilibrium and just like the drop of water loses its tense spherical

shape on merging with the sea and is at peace with itself so does the

soul seek freedom from forces restraining it from merging back with its

true source and attaining tranquility and peace.

Chinese civilization too revealed the relationship of an enlightened

soul and peace centuries ago with their proverb which means “If there

is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty

in the person, there will be harmony in the house. If there is harmony in

the house, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the

nation, there will be peace in the world.” As the ultimate aim of Yoga is

enlightenment of the soul, we can safely claim that it has been well

known to man that Yoga is essential for peace both within and without!

Chlorophyll Bath

E

Sandip Shah

Organiser of the Yoga Therapy, N. L. & Naturpathy Diploma Course, Matunga.

(Tel. 9869443760)

What is Chorophyll?

It is made up of two greek words. 'Chloros' means green and

'Phyllon' means leaf. It is basically a green colour matter of leaves and

plants which is essential for the production of carbohydrates by

photosynthesis. When consumed green juice of plants orally, it gets

absorbed in the blood stream very much faster, which saves a lot of vital

energy required for digestion.

What is Photosynthesis?

The chlorophyll absorbs the sun energy and with the help of Co2 &

water, it creates carbohydrate which is necessary for the transport of

energy throughout the plant system. When the plant uses this energy,

it creates oxygen as a waste product which is the life force for the living

creatures. We can derive the benifits of chlorophyll by eating lots of green

leafy vegetables and plants, e.g. wheat grass juice. Today, we will try to

understand how we can take chlorophyll bath and how it will benefit us.

CHLOROPHYLL BATH

Materials Required : Blanket, cotton bed sheet, banana leaves,

safety pins, strings and small towel.

Procedure : Chlorophyll bath should be taken preferably in the

morning between 8 to 11 a.m. having sufficient & direct sunrayes. Select

clean, open place. Spread a blanket on the ground, then spread a cotton

bed sheet over it. Thereafter spread banana leaves over the bed sheet.

Person is then made to lie on the banana leaves with minimum

clothing. (Before starting the procedure, a glass of water should be

drunk and a wet towel is to be kept on the head to protect from

dehydration.) Then the entire body is to be wrapped with the banana

leaves and the bed sheet and blanket are well wrapped over it. Pin the

outer side of the bed sheet with safety pins or wrap it well using strings.

Duration :

The wrapped body should be exposed to sunrayes till sweating occur

or approx 20 minutes or so depending on the intensity of sunrays and

environment.

Why to take banana leaves for Chlorophyll Bath?

1) They are long and thick and as such, found more suitable for

covering the entire body.

2) They are green in colour which absorb more sun-energy and

cause rapid photosynthesis.

Benifits of Chlorophyll Bath

1) Green colour acts on nervous system as sedative.

2) Because of profused sweating, all the toxins are removed from

body through the pores of skin allowing it to breathe freely.

3) It regulates the blood pressure.

4) It is beneficial for repairs of tissues.

5) It improves health by removing all waste material and toxins

from body.

6) It has a huge nutritional effect.
