The biggest music event Dunfermline Town Centre has ever held is getting closer. Dunfermline Live is a music festival held within the town centre venues of Dunfermline with many top national live acts playing alongside some of Scotland and Fife's most highly acclaimed rising talent.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see some amazing bands in some unusual music venues culminating in Embrace playing a one off Scottish gig as a headline of the entire festival.

Organisers are delighted to announce that the UK's most prestigious Rock'n'Roll clubnight, 'This Feeling' in association with XFM, will be hosting one of the stages this year and the festival has also had backing from The Alf Strewart Property Foundation, The Mary Leishman Foundation, Fife Council, Dunfermline Delivers and Kopparberg. FULL LINE-UP FOR GLASGOW AMERICANA FESTIVAL 2014

This is the eighth year for the Festival, which starts on 1st October and ends on the 5th Oklahoma/Texas songwriter, Jimmy LaFave (pictured) and his band with their brand of 'red dirt' music get things under way for his first Scottish date in 15 years. He effortlessly blends country, blues, folk, and early rock and roll in his own compositions or choice of covers. He has recorded around 15 albums – the last with new material was 2012’s “Depending On the Distance.” Award-winning Canadian blues guitarist and singer songwriter, Matt Anderson, who plays around 200 live, intimate and high-energy gigs a year, appears at The Admiral Bar on Thursday, 2 October. Specialising mostly in an earthy blend of blue-collar folk, electric blues, and roots rock, his eighth and latest album, “Weightless” also boldly branches off in the direction of R&B, reggae and rockabilly. The first lady of Louisiana, Mary Gauthier – she headlined the first ever Festival back in 2007 – stars at St Andrews in the Square on Friday, 3 October. The hugely popular and gloriously talented singer/songwriter has a new album, “Trouble and Love,” to bring, featuring personal tales that are never less than moving and certain to give fans, as she would say, a “bruising” time. There’s a matinee date with Texas-based singer/songwriter, Carrie Elkin at The Glad Café on Saturday, 4 October. Carrie, whose new album with Danny Schmidt, “For Keeps” is out now, appeared as part of the Glasgow Americana 2012 show, “Austin Song Writers In The Round.” Many liken her to Nanci Griffith, Iris DeMent and Patty Griffin. The same venue hosts an evening show that day with hotly-tipped singer/

songwriter Adam Holmes and his band The Embers. Adam’s debut album, “Heirs And Graces” was nominated for Scottish Album of the Year this year. He’s winning many admirers with his cultured mix of traditional and contemporary folk music from both sides of the Atlantic, gently eased on to his own brand of Americana. On the final day, The Hazy Recollections are teaming up with the Glasgow Americana Festival once again with a matinee show at the CCA offering an intriguing mix of artistes. And bringing the curtain down on the Festival is Sturgill Simpson and his band. Nashville-based Sturgill – tipped by many to be “the biggest real country star in waiting” – impressed many with this recent appearance on Jools Holland’s BBC2 show while his latest album, “Metamodern Sounds In Country Music” was named an Uncut Magazine Americana Album of the month. Glasgow Americana director, Kevin Morris said: “The festival is a really top-class line-up with acts set to please lots of music fans. It’s pleasing that these artistes think so highly of Glasgow Americana and are so keen to come to the city, either for the first time or for a repeat visit.”

King Creosote, Roddy Hart and Dougie MacLean to play Paisley’s Spree Festival

The third edition of the Renfrewshire Council-run event – on between 10 and 18 October – will see the return of the iconic Spiegeltent to the town centre to host the bulk of the shows. The centrepiece of the ten-day festival will be a one-off collaboration between King Creosote, Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on Friday 17 October. The gig –in the stunning setting of Paisley Abbey – will see both acts play sets backed by the orchestra, and follows a rapturously-received show at the same venue during last year’s festival with the RSNO, Admiral Fallow and The Twilight Sad. The Spigeltent will host Scottish folk legend Dougie MacLean – fresh from performing his best-known song Caledonia for a global TV audience of 1 billion during the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The festival will close with a Scottish Album of the Year Showcase on Saturday 18 October headlined by award winners and Glaswegian hip-hop stars Young Fathers, plus fellow nominees Kid Canaveral and Hector Bizerk. The bill is also big on laughs, with 2010 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Russell Kane bringing his new show Smallness to Paisley Town Hall on Wednesday 15 October. Other big-name comics set to appear include Scotland’s very own ‘half-man half-Xbox’ Daniel Sloss in Paisley Arts Centre, and Spree festival

favourite Craig Hill in the Spiegeltent. There will also be two editions of the regular Buddy Good Laugh comedy nights run by Dead Sheep Comedy during The Spree, headlined by TV regulars Jo Caulfield and Mark Nelson. Other musical highlights include indie-rockers Withered Hand and Merrymouth (fronted by ex-Ocean Colour Scene singer Simon Fowler), as well as veteran songwriter Rab Noakes, who was last in town when he produced a sold-out tribute show to Paisley’s Gerry Rafferty this year. There will also be some award-winning traditional music thanks to Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson with Salthouse, as well as the return of the Danny Kyle Open Stage made famous by Celtic Connections. The Spree will also feature plenty for children during the October break too, with Kids’ Comedy events featuring comics including Billy Kirkwood and Raymond Mearns, as well as free author events for kids in Paisley Central Library. The festival will run alongside the opening weekend of the Brick Wonders Lego exhibition at Paisley Museum, after its predecessor Brick City broke venue attendance records earlier this year.

Brick Wonders will run until February and feature the natural ancient and modern marvels of the world, created by Lego artist Warren Elsmore. And to build on the Lego link, The Spree will feature daily Let’s Do Robotics with Lego workshops for children, as well as a showing of the Lego Movie in the arts centre. As the leaves just begin to turn Amber, tickets are flying out through the door of the Perthshire Amber Box Office and it looks likely that this year’s festival will be the biggest yet. With over 350 musicians set to perform in the many wonderful and varied venues in autumnal Perthshire, tickets sales are 40% up on this time last year. The festival celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and festival Director Jennifer MacLean is delighted that the programme has been so well received.

“I can hardly believe that this year we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of the festival! When we first put on a weekend of concerts back in 2005, I had a feeling that we had a

special concept ... combining the beauty of autumnal Perthshire in the heart of Scotland with the music of Dougie MacLean and his talented musical friends. I couldn’t have imagined this mushrooming effect and I’m really pleased with the growing numbers and enthusiasm for the festival year on year. I’m really thrilled also with the audience’s reaction to this year’s programme – we have brought some of the festival favourites from over the years back to the festival, including Eddi Reader, The Paperboys, Duncan Chisholm and Emily Smith as well as inviting great new talent to join the Perthshire Amber Festival family.”

Perthshire Amber is part of the Year of Homecoming when Scotland welcomes the world with a year long calendar of events. The festival

attracts over 9000 visitors from across Scotland, the UK and 22 countries world wide and runs over ten days in venues across Perthshire. In addition to the concerts (afternoon and evening), the festival runs a programme of Amber Discoveries - walks, talks, workshops, open mic sessions, Cabaret Amber and pub sessions in Dunkeld and Birnam around the festival hub.

The particular success of the 2014 festival may be down to the profile of the Music Director and Founder Dougie MacLean who celebrates 40 years as a touring musician this year and featured (alongside Kylie Minogue, Lulu and Deacon Blue) at the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month. He has also successfully collaborated on a stunning new album with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, whose performance with Dougie will be one of the star attractions at this year’s festival. He explains more:

“It’s been a fantastic year with many highlights and I am really looking forward to this year’s Perthshire Amber. I’m thrilled that the RSNO will be joining me for a very special concert at Perth Concert Hall on the 31 October and I am pleased that we are having two evening concerts in Blairgowrie as that’s where I played some of my first gigs over 40 years ago...a real Homecoming! I love the special beauty of Perthshire in the autumn and I hope that Perthshire Amber’s many friends old and new will really enjoy the fantastic music and atmosphere... and a very warm welcome.”

THIS YEAR'S DTMF PERFORMERS: BLUEBELLY: Bluebelly are Dougie Burns and Bobby McDonald. This musical partnership was founded in 2003 when Dougie and Bobby decided that is was time to inflict their own original blues based songs on an unsuspecting (and, at that time, largely indifferent) public. Since their last two appearances here in Dunbar, Bluebelly have developed quite a fan base and so make a welcome return. ROBIN HAMILTON: Started playing piano accordion at age eleven receiving lessons from John Leslie. Competed in various competitions up to national level with some success. Plays for ceilidhs and dances with various bands all over Scotland and beyond, having played across Europe, South America and Australia. SLAINTE M'HATH: Slainte M'Hath are stalwarts of the Dunbar Traditional Music Festival and are hugely popular here, the lads were a twosome, but now with the recent addition of their third member they play a very wide range of Scottish traditional folk influenced by the Corries. If this is your taste then come early as the venues they play are always packed. CHRISTINE BOVILL: A live performer with a world class voice, Christine Bovill has built her reputation on her interpretation of classic 20th century songs. With the release of Derby Street, her first album, Christine reveals a major talent as a songwriter. GUY HEATH: Guy has been coming to entertain at the festival for quite some years and he blends in where ever he plays, Guy has a freedom to roam and is very flexible he plays all his songs including old songs and blue songs. He loves a good jam. EWAN GALLOWAY: Ewan have been playing the Accordion for six years and have made a multitude of friends from the music industry. His tutor, John Leslie, is a true musician in his own right, sometimes accompanying (and putting up with him) in his band. He has also played on BBC Radio Scotland - Take the Floor with the Graeme Munro Band which was a great experience. ROCKA HILLBILLIES: Rocka Hillbillies is a band focused on providing good fun nostalgic 50's Rock’n’Roll. Elvis - Carl Perkins -Johnny Cash - Chuck Berry…and all that genre. THE DANA DIXON BAND: Singer and harmonica player Dana Dixon grew up in a house which was filled by her fathers music. Although living and raising a family in the UK her father was born in Texas, USA and it was his love of blues and American roots music which was a major influence on his young daughter. With this in mind its no surprise that The Dana Dixon Bands sound is an intoxicating mix of authentic Texas, Chicago and west coast jump blues plus other influences such as rockabilly and 50s R&B. NE3 FOLK: NE3 folk are an exciting trio from Newcastle flooding the scene with their subtly complex arrangements and innate driving force. Cathy Geldard tantalizes audiences with her unique blend of the shetland fiddle style with every other style available to her. The graceful melodies that emanate from Victoria Laurenceson's accordion are beautifully attuned to her left hand 's eclectic influences. This leaves Chris Meredith's driving guitar complimented by his use of dissonance and complicated rhythms. A band to recommend and not to miss! ROY MOLLER: Roy studied at StrathclydeUniversity and was joint winner of the Keith Wright Poetry Competition. After graduating, Roy concentrated his creative endeavours on music, playing guitar in Peel favourites Meth O.D. and instrumental outfit The Wow Kafe, on whose debut single Who Will Apologise To The Emperor he featured on lead guitar. ANDREW GORDON: Andrew grew up listening to The Corries. The heartfelt renditions of Scottish songs encouraged Andrew to find his own voice, and at the age of 13, with his dads guitar, started

performing folk music for friends and family. It wasn't till 1999 Andrew truly settled into his solo career and began performing regularly in his local area. Over the years his reach grew, and Andrew can now boast of performing in The US, Canada, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and all over Scotland. CURMUDGEON: Curmudgeon are a Lothian based folk music band comprising three members: Donald Gorman fiddle player specialising in traditional Scottish music, Donald also plays mandola and mandolin, and adds accompanying vocals. Laurie Brett is lead singer for the band and is a fine guitar player. He also occasionally plays whistle. Andrew Macintyre plays Scottish small pipes and various whistles as well as providing accompanying vocals. GRAHAM CAIRNS: Graham has become known for the heart and soul he puts into his songs and performances. His career highlights include performing at T In The Park, the Mull of Kintyre music festival, and other far flung places such as Singapore, and Greece. He's played in bands of many genres, rock, ceilidh, folk, and country, with many other great musicians, and each of these experiences has shaped his sound and style. WATCHTONE: Watchtone are a fresh and exciting Newcastle-based band that infuse contemporary Scottish tunes with complex underlying tones and rhythms. Dazzling audiences with their own compositions and arrangements, Chris Meredith fiddle, Mercedes Philips Sax and Graeme Armstrong on guitar make up this innovative trio. BEN CHURCH: Danny Kyle Award winner Ben Church is a unique performer that has been receiving phenomenal reactions to his percussive guitar style and soaring voice. As a soloist he has performed at various venues and festivals around the UK, including the prestigious Sage Gateshead and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. A BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award semi-finalist at 17, Ben Church has since released a long awaited debut CD 'My Lot,' spotlighting his distinctive twist on traditional material as well as superb original songs and covers. JO COCKBURN and DAVIE SCOTT: Jo Cockburn has been playing in Scottish dance bands for over 20 years. She has played all over Scotland with long-standing bands such as Judith Linton and Gordon Clark, as well as travelling to many gigs abroad. She has been a fixture at Dunbar Traditional Music Festival for over 15 years. David Scott has been well-known on the Scottish dance music circuit for over 30 years. He now plays in East Lothian blues+rockabilly band Dawghouse. Davie and Jo first met at the Shetland.

The 2014 Dunbar Traditional Music Festival takes place from the evening of Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September in various Belhaven bars in and around Dunbar. Belhaven Best is the major sponsor for the festival.

DTMF continues to flourish since it began in 1988.Set in the historic seaside town of Dunbar, the Festival is committed to showcasing local and young talent alongside well established and internationally known artists. Song, music, pipes & drums, children's workshop, informal tunes and sessions, concerts, ceilidhs and open air performances are the traditional hallmarks of the annual September event.

The Festival caters for a wide range of musical tastes. Initially the focus was on traditional Scottish and Irish music but in recent years this has broadened to include jazz, blues, Appalachian, country, bluegrass and skiffle.

A bit about Dunbar .... The historic burgh of Dunbar is situated on the south-east coast of Scotland about 30 miles from Edinburgh in East Lothian. There are a number of beautiful beaches and coastal walks in the area and East Lothian is also renowned for its excellent golf courses. Am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail (The Royal National Mòd), Scotland’s biggest Gaelic Cultural Festival, has announced the programme for their biggest fringe in the event’s 122 year history. Taking place in Inverness from Friday 10 to Saturday 18 October there will be almost 70 events taking place as part of the Fringe, alongside the competition based events. Starting with a torchlight procession from Inverness Castle to Eden Court on the Friday, there is an abundance of entertainment planned for the week. There will be concerts featuring Skipinnish, Cruinn and Skerryvore (plus many more), street theatre, the Shinty Mod Cup, meet the author events, pub music nights, children’s disco, come & try sessions and a ceilidh - there really is something for everyone. Fringe highlights include the Saturday night Fiddlers’ Rally at Eden court. Hosted in association with Blazin in Beauly - under the musical direction of Bruce Macgregor of Blazin’ Fiddles - the concert will feature over 100 fiddlers, including world renowned artistes, plus local groups, promising to be the most spectacular fiddle event in Scotland. A special concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I on Wednesday afternoon will be a showpiece event, with musician Erik Spence creating a piece of music to go along with the poem Bantrach Cogaidh, written by the late Rev John Macleod. Dingwall Gaelic Choir and Lochardil Primary School Choir will contribute. Other highlights include musical performances at the area’s stunning visitor attractions Urquhart Castle, Culloden Battlefield and Fort George, while The Massed Choirs, with pipe bands, will bring the week’s musical festivities to a close with hundreds of choristers taking part on the Saturday morning. Organised by An Comunn Gàidhealach, one of the world’s oldest and most respected national Gaelic organisations, The Royal National Mòd is the most important festival of the Gaelic language in Scotland and is a signature event in the Highland Homecoming celebrations. The nine day extravaganza will feature competitions in Highland Dancing, Gaelic Music and Song, Sport, Literature and Drama, offering Gaelic speakers of all levels to compete, bringing thousands of competitors and spectators from throughout Scotland, the UK and from all corners of the globe including USA, Australia and Canada to Inverness. John Morrison, chief executive of An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce our Fringe programme for 2014. The bread and butter of the Mòd itself is the competition side – there are more than 200 competitions to enjoy –

but over the years our Fringe events have also started to grow. “Inverness has a great variety of venues to allow us to host our biggest ever Fringe, and it’s a great way to celebrate being in the city for the first time since 1997. Having a Fringe event keeps the atmosphere going all week and allows gaels and non-gaels to experience the fun of the Mod!” The Provost of Inverness, Councillor Alex Graham said: “The Mòd Inbhir Nis Fringe Programme includes many varied and interesting events. These include Cèilidh Beag a Mhòd - a fun event for young children taking place in the Aquadome - dynamic street theatre in the City Centre, genealogical activities in the Highland Archive Centre and exciting exhibitions and musical recitals in the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. “The Mod Fringe activities and events complement the formal Royal National Mod Competitions and which, together, give us the World’s Premier Gaelic festival.” Cllr Graham added, “I am delighted that the Fringe Programme includes both traditional and contemporary events in venues and places of historic interest. With the end of August only a day away, 1500 people could be found partying to more than 40 bands, artists, and DJ’s, under the watchful gaze and sun-filled serenity of Drumlanrig Castles green and verdant tree-lined grounds. So, as a new adventure, a one-dayer, the new kid on the festival block smashed it. We’d like to this think that this was a fantastic way to close the summer festival season in Dumfriesshire, if not Scotland.

Co-founders Alex Roberts & Chay Woodman, as well as the rest of our truly dedicated team, would like to thank everybody that turned up. The atmosphere veered between the best festival we’ve ever been to, including having families galore, and a classic Hogmanay vibe with the atmosphere turned up high. The music ran from 11.30am to 00.30am and apart from

one DJ being replaced due to illness, the full brace of bands arrived, played and partied with everyone else, including our stunning headliner, Fatherson. Having Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand strap on his guitar and jump onstage for the last song with his old band The Amphetameanies was a fantastic surprise. Thankfully we managed keep that one a secret, in between a lot of grinning.

Will the festival get any bigger? There’s always room for expansion. Chay Woodman and Alex Roberts (co-founders) said: “We’re delighted with the overall success of the first and now inaugural Electric Fields. The weather was kind and the festival goers were in great spirits. We feel that we’ve created a family friendly event that stands out from everything else in Dumfries & Galloway, including musically. The feedback has been overwhelming and with the majority of ticket buyers coming from outside of the region, we’re obviously on the right path nationally. More than enough reason to start planning for 2015!’ Sadly, a handful of tents did have some items stolen, which is being dealt with by the police. Although the loss figure is quite high, half of this is roughly due to one particular tent containing a very expensive high end camera & lens as well as a significant amount of cash. We are of course disappointed that this happened, however, this does seem indicative of all festivals. The crowd, other than this incident and one person being arrested for drunk and disorderly, behaved impeccably, and we salute their greatness immensely.
