5. Installation

5.1 Installation

The mixer can be placed direct on the floor. Foundation bolts in the floor are only neces-sary under special conditions, e.g. in ships. If the 20 L mixer is placed on a bench stand,it must be fastened with the enclosed bolts.

If the floor is not level, the position of the mixer can be corrected by loosening the screwsplaced at the bottom of the outer left side of the mixer, whereafter the legs can be turned. When the mixer is placed corrrecly, the screws are tightened again.

Ensure that the voltage, phase and hertz printed on the identification plate of the mixerare correct compared with that of the place of installation.

The identification plate is located at the top of the right side of the mixer.

Be sure the mixer is properly connected to the incoming power supply and that the groundor earth connection is made.

If the mixer is provided with a five core cable, the mixer must also be connected to 0.

The arrow on the front of the planetary head is showing the direction of rotation of theplanetary head.

On 3-phase motors the direction of rotation can be changed by interchanging 2 phases ofthe connecting cable or of the motor.

• remove the top cover 1 of the mixer and the plastic cover 43• press the speed selector lever 8 back towards the back of the mixer so that the spe-

cial V-belt is loosened, and take off the special V-belt• the special V-belt is mounted by first placing it on the rear pulley set 9 (the motor

pulley set) and open the pulleys by pulling the special V-belt• turn the speed selector lever 8 back towards the back of the mixer (high speed)

and mount the special V-belt on the front pulley set 10.• adjust the speed

The motor pulley 9 set is taken off in the following way:

• remove the top cover 1 of the mixer, the plastic cover 43 and the special V-belt 7• the motor pulley set can now be taken off by loosening the two screws 40• the upper half of the pulley set can be taken off by removing the circlip 41

The legs 17 of the mixer are taken off by removing the screws 18.

Relay and thermal 21 overload relay are taken out in the following way:

• remove the top cover 1, the plastic cover 43, the special V-belt 7,and the controlbox 6

• the screws 22 are loosened• if the relay is to be exchanged, the screw 57 is removed

Before relay and thermal overload relay are taken out, the mixer must for safety reasonsbe disconnected on the main switch, or the connecting cable disconnected.

The indicator 23 on the side of the thermal over-load relay is adjusted to the rated current of themotor +10%.

The motor 42 is taken out in the following way:

• the voltage to the mixer is switched off or the connecting cable disconnected• remove the top cover 1of the mixer, the plastic cover 43, the special V-belt, and

12

Page 19: MIXER Service Manual - Metos

5.10.2004 Rev. 1.0Service

When the lower fork 15 and the spring 34 aremounted, the speed selector lever 8 is turnedcounter clockwise, so that it points horizontallybackwards, at the same time as the lower fork ispressed gently down. When the speed selectorlever 8 is now turned clockwise, it will catch thetoothed rack 35 and pull down the lower fork.Screw on the nuts 11 and 12.

Be aware that the pin 39 on the lower part 32 ofthe pulley set is to be placed as shown in theabove mentioned drawing.

When everything has been mounted, the speed has to be adjusted.

Adjustment of speed:

• control and if necessary adjust the distance B=318+/-3mm, by loosening the fourbolts 16 and move the motor backwards and forwards. The tolerance of the dis-tance B can be used in cases when there are problems in adjusting the speed cor-rectly, as the distance B is dependent on the tolerance of the special V-belt

• the counter nut 11 and the adjusting nut 12 are loosened• start the mixer and adjust the lowest speed so that the special V-belt 7 is approx.

1-2mm C from the pulley edge• stop the mixer and tighten loosely the adjusting nut 12, and thereafter the counter

nut 11• the counter nut 13 and the adjusting screw 14 are loosened• start the mixer and adjust the highest speed so that the special V-belt 7 is approx.

1-2mm C from the pulley edge of the motor pulley set 9• stop the mixer and tighten loosely the adjusting screw 14, and thereafter the coun-

ter nut 13

13

• start the mixer and control the measure C on both pulley sets at high and low speedresp.

• be aware that the pin 39 0n the lower part 32 of the pulley set is to be placed asshown on the drawing opposite.

Tolerances in the transmission can cause that the special V-belt 7 is hitting the pins of thepulley sets when the speed has been adjusted. In these cases the distance B is to be reducedand the speed to be adjusted again.

Bowl arms 45 are to be exchange in the following way:

• a) disconnect the mixer on the main switch or disconnect the connecting cable• b) lower the bowl arms• c) put the mixer down on its back and take off the legs of the mixer 17 by removing

the screws 18• d) the bottom plate 19 is taken off by removing the nuts 20 • e) take out the cutter pin 51 securing the lifting bolt 46 and the lifting nut 47• f) take out the lifting bolt 46 and the lifting nut 47• g) the two circlips 48 are removed from the two bowl arm guide rods 49 whereafter

the bowl guide rods 49 can be knocked back so that the bowl arms are free and canbe taken out

The lifting lever 50 is exchanged in the following way:

• a) start as described above from a) to f) incl.• g) the crank shaft 52 is taken off by removing thecirclip 56• h) ensure that the key 53 ha sbeen removed too• i) the lifting lever 50 can now be taken out

14

Page 21: MIXER Service Manual - Metos

5.10.2004 Rev. 1.0Service

If a microswitch for bowl lift 58 is requiredit must be adjusted in a way that it will not beactivated when the bowl is in working posi-tion.

Adjusting of bowl height:

• lower the bowl arms• the counter nut 54 is loosened and the cutter pin 51 is taken out• take out the lifting bolt 46 with the lifting nut 47• the bowl height is now adjusted by turning the lifting nut 47 either out or in, on the

lifting bolt 46• mount the lifting bolt with the lifting nut and the cutter pin, and tighten the counter

nut 54• ensure that the measure D=127,5mm is correct when the bowl is raised to normal

working position, and repeat the procedure if the measure is not correct• ensure that all mixing tools are fitting in the bowl

6.1.1 Lubrication and Maintenance

When the mixer is used regularly, the varispeed system must be lubricated approx. onceper month.

When the mixer is used intensively or often used without changes in speed ,the lubricationintervals should be shortened.

Start the mixer and increase the speed up to approx. 50%. Stop the mixer and take off thetop cover of the mixer by removing the 2 screws.

On top of the shafts of the pulley sets there is a grease nipple, one on each pulley set.Press the grease through the grease nipples until the grease gun feels hard, or until greaseis pressed out between the shaft and the pulleys.

Grease for the shafts of the pulley sets: ESSO NEBULA EP1 or EP2, or another ball bear-ing grease NLGI 1or NLGI 2.

Put the top cover back and remember to put in the 2 screws securing the cover.

The mixer must not be started until these screws are mounted.

Start the mixer and set the speed back to low speed.

Stop the mixer and fill up the grease gun with new grease to be ready for the next lubri-cation.
