MELSOFT is Mitsubishi's integrated FA software which is highly acclaimed in various industrial scenes from de-sign and operation to maintenance. This integrated software is available in 4 different series, thus extensivelycovering the FA needs from specifications review and data collection to creation of debugging environment thatrequires no actual device. The following shows the list of major products contained in each series. To confirmwhether the software you want is supported by the PC CPU Unit or not, see Page 10 "Software Supported/NotSupported by PC CPU Unit ".

With the FA PC functions incorporated into a PLC

base, it requires less space and wiring.

As the connection with an equipment PLC is

made through a bus, both the data communica-

tion time and the tact time on the line can be

reduced.

Examples of System Configuration Using PC CPU Unit

Before

Semiconductor Equipment - General -

In the case of a semiconductor equipment using a con-

ventional PLC, a dedicated communication equipment

(ex. PC) had to be installed additionally to establish

SECS communication with an upward host computer,

thus requiring extra installation space.

With PC

CPU

installed

After

The PC CPU equipped with a PLC base requiresno addit ional PC for establ ishing SECScommunication, thus allowing for simplerconfiguration. The device requires less controller space.(Reduction of footprint)Utilization of a commercial SECS communicationpackage via a PLC bus is currently planned.

Direct

Communication

Automotive Parts Processing/Manufacturing Instruction and Data Lossing System on Assembly Line

Before

On conventional automotive parts processing/as-

sembly lines, a dedicated FA PC had to be installed

to serve as an interface between the production

control computer and the equipment control PLC,

thus requiring extra installation space and wiring.

For your reference, we have provided below the examples of system configuration for installing the PC CPU Unit as well as

the description of products that will be required when installing bus interface drivers and other software.

Please note that, other than the products listed here, you will need a base unit and a power supply unit for MELSEC-Q Series.

When purchasing an OS preinstalled model

You can use the following components to install the attached bus interface driver or to reinstall the OS:

When installing from CD-ROM or when reinstalling the OS

* When using a recovery media (CD-ROM) to reinstall the OS, you need to change the BIOS setting of the PC CPU Unit so that you can boot from the CD-ROM.

* Please see the Product Lineup for the optional proprietary items and the products with their operation confirmed.

* The hardware manual and the driver software manual for the PC CPU Unit are not included in the package. You can purchase them separately or download them freely from our home page.

 When expanding each interface

You can use the following components to expand each interface on the PC CPU Unit.

When adding a serial port

[Optional Items]

You can connect it to the PC CPU Unit expansion interface(EX.I/F) to expand the serial interface on the second port.

When expanding a serial port, parallel portand USB or when using a watchdog timer

This connector converter can convert the interface (serial/par-allel/USB) inside the EX.I/F connector on the PC CPU Unitinto an AT-compatible standard connector. The terminal block provided on the connector terminal can beused for watchdog timer output.

Following are the frequently asked questions concerning the installation of the PC CPU Unit. They are constantly updated

on our home page at: http://www.contec.com

=Hardware

It serves as the 2nd serial port by being connected

to the expansion interface (EX.I/F) on the PC CPU

Unit. By connecting a connector terminal to the ex-

pansion interface (Ex.I/F), you can expand the par-

allel port, the serial port, the USB port and the ter-

minal block. However,

if the expansion you

need is limited to the

serial port, you can

just use the serial

conversion cable.

Both the LAN driver and the display driver are al-

ready installed. However, you need to adjust the

property settings for IP address, resolution, etc. de-

pending on the environment in which they are used.

Please note that the bus interface driver is not

installed.

Due to the special shape of

the IDE connector, only our

optional proprietary CD-ROM

drive (PPC-CDD-01) can be

used.

In the system configuration, you must keep the low-

est environmental specification, which means that

in this case the ambient temperature level specified

for the hard disk (5 to 50) must be maintained.

This rule is applicable to any system configuration

comprising optional items (FDD drive, CD-ROM

drive) and commercial peripheral equipment (PC

card, USB equipment, keyboard).

Windows NT Embedded 4.0 is an OS used for

embedding. Therefore, a machine carrying this OS

is normally used for operation and not for

development. For the development of application,

you can use Windows NT 4.0 machine, and once

the application is developed, you can operate it on

a machine running Windows NT Embedded 4.0.

EZSocket is a communication middleware for

Mitsubishi FA equipment proposed by Mitsubishi

Electric Corporation. The partner companies shown

earlier in the list develop and market application soft-

ware based on EZSocket specifications disclosed by

Mitsubishi on a contractual basis. We took up this

product here because it allows the application soft-

ware of each company to operate on the PC CPU

Unit, thus allowing for extensive solution. It is of

course possible to operate the PC CPU Unit using

only the application software you have developed.

Q. With an OS preinstalled model, are the

LAN driver and the display driver also

installed?

The ambient temperature for the PC CPUUnit is specified as 0 to 55= in thecatalogue, whereas that for the hard disk isset to 5 to 50. In this case, must we com-ply with the temperature limit specified forthe hard disk?

Can we use an ordinary CD-ROM drive

available on the market?

What is a serial conversion cable?

Can we use Windows NT Embedded 4.0

preinstalled model to develop application?

Can you tell us more about EZSocket sup-

ported by the PC CPU Unit? Is it essential

for operating the PC CPU Unit?
