WHAT WE DO Research Development at MIT is a unit within the Office of the Vice President for Research tasked with strategically leveraging resources to increase MIT's research competitiveness. The Research Development team works directly with faculty, Institute administration, strategic partners and funders to facilitate research program funding. Levin, Ph.D. Director of Research Development For over two decades, Dr. Levin has been working with faculty to identify and secure funding to support their research. A founding Board Member and Past-President of NORDP, he has served as grant reviewer for agencies such as the NSF and NIH, and is a Fellow of the AAAS. Dr. Levin received his BA in physics and math from Cornell University, an MA in physics and a PhD in molecular and cell biology from UC Berkeley, and was a postdoctoral fellow in the MIT department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Cathy A. Borgesen Assistant Director Cathy brings a deep knowledge of research funding and management to the RD team. She manages over 150 limited submission opportunities annually, and has been the de facto central point of contact on campus for the 10 Advanced Manufacturing Institutes of which MIT is a member. Ms. Borgesen holds a BA in sociology from UMass Amherst, an MA in sociology from Emory University, and a Graduate Certificate in research administration from Emmanuel College.
