Welcome to the fifth edition of the St. Luke’s Mission Catalog! This catalog is designed to give you an overall picture of what the mission of St. Luke’s is outside our walls. Within these pages, you will learn more about 10 for the World, community and global partnerships, mission teams and missionaries. Our hope is that we as a community, and even as individuals, might further pursue partnership with the agencies and people we support.

We strongly believe that each one of us is a member and a missionary, and that we each have a unique calling from God. Our prayer is that you are inspired to pursue a life lived in love and to be a light in the world. There are many ways to begin that pursuit in this catalog, the current L-Team Lineup catalog, or you can check out the L-Teams online at www.stlukes-church.com.

These are organizations we support through our congregational tithe, 10 for the World. Valerie Danforth, Director of Missions and Chris Davis, Lead Pastor, work with an advisory team to support 10 for the World which is the distribution of ten percent of the church’s total received offerings annually. The money is distributed roughly in the following categories: denominational giving, global faith building, global humanitarian work, local faith building, and local humanitarian work.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. I Peter 4:10-11

The word "Synod" in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod comes from the Greek words that mean "walking together." The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod

unites congregations to vigorously make known the love of Christ by word and deed

within our churches, communities, and the world. The three tenets of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod are sola scriptura (God reveals

Himself through His Word), sola gratia (we are saved completely by grace alone) and sola fida (grace is not by our actions but received by faith).

The story of Roger and Isha Hulford in Bolivia began in 1990. Together they minister by reaching out to street teenagers of the city of Santa Cruz. They gain the children’s trust by giving them an opportunity to come off the streets and undergo a complete restoration of their lives, assisting them to reintegrate into the society. This past year, they have received 2 new girls into El Alfarero (the girl’s restoration home) and have not had any girls leave. They received two more boys into El Camino the boy’s restoration home. Two of the boys in this home were reintegrated into their own families this past year and two graduated from high school last fall and are now in the reintegration home. This past year, they also celebrated the 10th anniversary of El Alfarero.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church is a small congregation in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx borough of New York

St Luke's has an ongoing partnership with the community of Mahlalini, Swaziland through World Vision Church Partnership. Our commitment to this community is one that will grow over the coming years as we walk alongside the people, and support community development projects. In Swaziland 26 percent of people are infected with HIV/AIDS; 42 percent of pregnant women are infected. One in five children is an orphan.

God has called us to work with Mirror Lake Elementary, to be a light and an encouragement to the families there. Approximately 75% of Mirror Lake families live at or below the Federal poverty line. We want to support the school, families and faculty through events, mentoring and providing resources for the neediest of families.

St. Luke's Purpose StatementTo seek out and bring people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

Each summer, a team of youth and adults from St Luke's travels to Hoonah, Alaska to provide Vacation Bible School, a basketball camp, adult Bible studies, youth events and assistance with construction projects. Prayer requests include: spiritual and moral guidance, healing of broken families and/or chronic alcohol and substance abuse, a decline in teen pregnancy, and the struggles for survival.

Through our ongoing partnership with World Vision and Mahlalini, we have the opportunity to participate in Vision Mission trips to Mahlalini. Currently, these trips focus on building relationships, visiting with our church's sponsored children and their families, and meeting with the many local people serving the Mahlalini community on a daily basis. Our role there ranges from encouraging the people, sharing Gospel, loving on kids, or serving wherever the need arises. Being able to spend time with the people of Mahlalini has shown to be an enormous blessing and an encouragement to both the community we support and the teams that are sent. Our next Vision Mission team leaves Summer 2015. Teams are sent about every 18 months, prayerfully consider applying to be on the 2015 team. For more information, email Valerie Danforth at [email protected].

The Gleaners Mission is a “first-step” mission for Middle School students, where they can step outside of their own lives to serve the world in great ways. The Okanagan Gleaners Society is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization located in Oliver, BC, Canada. For a week each summer, we help process fresh donated vegetables into dehydrated soup mixes. The soup mixes are then sent out all over the world to help nourish the hungry, and spread the love of Jesus Christ.

Contact Jake Allstaedt at [email protected] for more information regarding this mission trip.

The Bronx Mission Trip is the main Ignite event for the 11th graders. The focus of the 11th grade year is "witness." Youth are given an opportunity to be witnesses of their faith, while pushing them out of their comfort zone in the urban setting of the Bronx, NY. The team learns about ministry in an urban context which involves street evangelism and worship like they have never experienced before! We are looking at other ways we might be "witnesses" in the Bronx as we continue to expand the ministry there.

Contact Jake Allstaedt at [email protected] for more information regarding this mission trip.

In 1986, Camp Prime Time was established near Clear Lake in the Wenatchee National Forest. This camp allows

families and groups of people with disabilities to come enjoy a weekend in the woods for free. They offer camp every weekend from June to September which is run by volunteers. Our Family Mission

teams focus on sharing Christ's love through their actions, words, and service since this is a secular camp. Volunteers cook, clean, operate the boat, and organize the traditional camp fire sing along night. Along with running the camp these Family Mission trips are designed to engage families to serve together and model serving others with their kids.
