Have you seen this film clip on www.visitrainier.com
featuring the 2008 Mt. Rainier Music Festival in Mineral,
WA? As you probably know by now, the Mt. Rainier Music Festival was a great
success! And, in case you didn’t get to attend, now you can join in the fun on
VisitRainier.com. Kelli Clouse put together the video clip of the concert for
VisitRainier.com and sent us a nice note along with the link to share with us.
VisitRainier is revamping their website and it is better than ever!
Gary Johnson of Mineral Lake Event Center, one of the sponsors of this year’s
Benefit for the Mountain, said of the music festival, “The event was a great
success. We had approx 1200 people pass through over the weekend. All the
bands, vendors, and participants are looking forward to doing it again next year.
Visit Rainier, sent a camera crew in and they made an excellent video of the
event, the town of Mineral and the entire area. This video will be a tourism plus
for the Visit Rainier campaign. We will be presenting donations to the Mt
Rainier Trail system and the Nisqually Land Trust within a week. Our
attendance was about double this year over last, according to the experts who
were on site. Next year should double again. This venue is a definite plus for
the entire area.”
Besides the VisitRainier video, additional photos of the concert can be found in
this issue and on Randy Oxford’s website www.randyoxford.com

Mineral Lake Event Center Hosts Opening Night Gala & Three Days of Films & Workshops
Global Awareness Links Films Selected For This Year's Rainier Independent Film Festival Screenings, workshops and gatherings will be held in select venues in Mt.
Rainier's Ashford Valley and Mineral May 2 through 4, 2008.
ASHFORD VALLEY (at Mt. Rainier), Washington - April 3, 2008 - The
Rainier Independent Film Festival has selected 21 compelling, artistic and
inspirational films to be screened from May 2 through 4 at three venues in the
Ashford Valley, just miles from the Nisqually entrance to Mount Rainier
National Park. The festival will also include workshops, social gatherings,
panels, audience-voted awards and an awards ceremony. Many of the
filmmakers and actors will be in attendance.
Many of this year's films are linked by subject matter that reveals or addresses
issues of global awareness, including environmental and humanitarian
concerns. Among them are the explosive documentary Uncounted, by David
Earnhardt, who will field audience questions after the screening; Sympathetic
Details, with Ryan Sands and other actors from HBO's The Wire; and film
festival circuit favorite, The Rat Thing, directed by Kevin Keresey; and the
surreal internal narrative, Soliloquy.
The opening night film will be The Flyboys, a high-action, family-oriented,
feel good feature-length film on coming of age, directed by Rocco DeVilliers,
who will be introducing the film, and starring Stephen Baldwin and Tom
Sizemore. It will be screened at the Mineral Lake Event Center at 6PM on
Friday, May 2, and followed by the Opening Night Gala, at 8PM.
For a full schedule, please go to www.rainierfilmfest.com/schedule.html.
A pass to all screenings, workshops and receptions for all three days is $50. A
day-pass for all screenings and workshops on Saturday or Sunday is $20. A
ticket to the festival launch on Friday including two free drinks is $15.
Tickets are available online through Brown Paper Tickets and at Whittaker
Mountaineering and Bunkhouse, Ashford, Capital Hill Arts Center in Seattle,
and the Silver Platter Records stores at Crossroads Mall, Bellevue and at
South Sound Center in Tukwila. A ticket for a single screening or workshop
is $6 and can be purchased at any of the three screening venues or online.
The Rainier Independent Film Festival is dedicated to providing truly
independent filmmakers a venue to have their films screened. Nestled in the
tranquil foothills surrounding Mt. Rainier, the Ashford Valley provides the
perfect setting for the first annual RIFF. Screening venues range from a yurt
to a 1940s historical school in Mineral with a capacity of up to 300 people.
For more information as well as a full screening schedule, please access
http://www.rainierfilmfest.com For destination information, please access

Exercise Classes Conveniently Located at Event Center Tuesdays & Thursdays
It’s time to save some time and gas money! Christy Kleweno is leading a low impact exercise class inside the Mineral Lake Event Center. Christi is a certified trainer from the Morton area. She works in many small communities in Lewis County, helping provide an avenue for exercise that many people would not get otherwise. Her classes in aerobics are designed to get the heart rate up and then cool the body down within an hour of class. She brings a fun personality to class as well as a focused routine designed to help the class members use muscle groups that do not normally get much use. Health and wellness are her goals.
Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM until 10 AM. Class fee is $35.00 per month. If you are interested, please call Christy at 360-496-5218, Susan Manger at 360-492-3090 or Jeannie Evans at 360-492-5565 or just drop by and check it out for yourself.
