A&STRACT
In current days& shell and tube heat e?changer is the most common type heat e?changer widely
used in oil refinery and other large chemical process& because it suits higher pressure application(
!he purpose of the pro,ect is @D analysis of a single shell and single tube heat e?changer and
formati'e the effect of baffle angle on heat transfer temperature using *N"Q" software tool("o
attempts were made to e?amine the impacts of 'arious baffle inclination angles on fluid stream
and the heat transfer characteristics of a shell7and7tube heat e?changer for three different baffle
plateRs inclination angles namely 0S& /5S and 7/5S(
!he results for shell and tube heat e?changers& one with segmental baffles
perpendicular to fluid stream and two with segmental baffles inclined to the direction of fluid
flow are compared for their performance( !he results are obser'ed to be responsi'e to the baffle
angles( !he steady state heat transfer rate was found to be more in the case of /5 degrees as
compared to the 7/5 degrees( !he heat flu? is ma?imum in /5 degrees baffle angle and
minimum in case of 7/5 degree baffle angle( !his is physically correct because in /5 degree the
hot fluid which is in the shell side and abo'e tube is directed towards the tube which promotes
the flow and thus increasing the heat transfer rate( In case of 7/5 degrees the baffles opposes the
hot fluid in the shell area and abo'e the tube& destructs and opposes the flow and hence the heat
transfer rate is reduced( !he 0 degrees baffles angle lies in intermediate of the /5 degree and
7/5 degree(
