Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full
product?
When looking back over the product of my preliminary task, I notice a messier, less skilled approach to my preliminary
magazine.
Planning was a huge step towards a successful magazine, and I planned a lot
in my main task. The preliminary task consisted of me and my partner picking
things we liked, and shoving a load together, this would not mean that the target audience would like it. However,
in my main task, I took time to plan, gain audience communication, internet
research, and use the correct programs.
It is difficult to compare both my preliminary magazine and my main
magazine because they are of different genres, and my preliminary
magazine had a lot more features than my main. But overall, I think I have learned to bleed images a lot
better and use the typical forms and conventions in a more useful way.
Here I have messy edges around my model.
Here I have jagged lines, and other faded outlines.
Here I have a smooth, sharp cut around my model.
I have stayed the same with typical forms and conventions of real media products in both my preliminary and
main magazines.

When it comes down to photography, my preliminary task was just a quick
wander around college, with my partner, finding an instrument and taking 2 or 3 shots. Whereas, my main task was a lot more thought out and planned. I made a list of
models, times, props and places, and did it one weekend with plenty of
shots, and gained audience feedback on them.
I have progressed in areas such as Photoshop and QuarkXPress, and
learned new skills to create smooth transitions and creative layouts.
During the process, I have developed my skills in attracting certain audiences using typical forms and conventions. I have
learned how different ideas attract certain people using technology
such as Facebook, and doing a lot more audience research for my main
magazine.
