focus on FASHION AND SUSTAINABILITY CBAT library has some fantastic resources to support fashion and design students – so this month we wanted to know:

What has fashion got to do with the concept of sustainability? Claudio explains:

In recent decades there has been an ever increasing movement that cares about the way the goods we consume are produced. This very same process can be mirrored in the fashion Industry. In an Industry that most of the time seems self-obsessed, a group of insiders have started to challenge the idea of garments being disposable just something to throw away when we don’t want to wear it any more. They have challenged every step of the production and commercialisation

of clothing - From the way farmers grow the cotton and crops, to fabric production methods, marketing and the people involved all these processes. Science and science students have a huge role to play in making the fashion industry more sustainable over time and more respectful of the planet around us, to: • Develop better ways to grow

cotton • Lower the use of toxic pesticides • economical in the use of water, an

increasingly scarce resource in our planet.

Now fashion is working to find ways to recycle material and transform them into a brand new product.

CBAT fashion students are currently working on sustainable designs…

Have your say about the library….

“We don’t like dropping expensive art books in the box beside the self-issue.”

“…restrictions on internet use should be lifted.”

We will happily take any self-returned items at the desk – and appreciate your support in looking after library resources – thank you!

Remember, HE students can make full use of the hub if they require a separate study area.

Please email any issues you have to the IT helpdesk, who control internet access. If a site is relevant to your studies, we suggest you use the on-screen “request access” option.

We would like a “separate part of library screened off for HE students.”

Post your suggestions in the box in the first floor library

Have your say about the library…. “…we would like more books on media and advertising.”

We work with your teaching staff to provide resources relevant to your studies. If there are specific resources you require, that are not available on the library catalogue, ask your tutors to let us know.

“…the staff are very nice and helpful but could control the students a bit more.”

College are working towards replacing the Macs - stolen last month – and understand what an important resource they are for students. Some applications - such as Photoshop - were available on all Macs, but are only available on a limited number of PCs. The college are focused on improving accessibility to this software.

We are dedicated to maintaining a quiet working environment on the first floor, with the ground floor available for work-related discussions. Students who disrupt the peaceful, work-focused atmosphere of the library will be asked to quieten down or to leave.

“…we need more Photoshop – more Macs.”
