I was scared and didn’t know what to do, but I had heard that the Mission was a great place so I called and thankfully there was room in the program. My one-year program graduation will be this month. I will also graduate my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program at Delta College this month! I am so thankful for learning: How to set boundaries, how to cope with different situations, and how to be a clean and sober mother. I am also thankful for: The loving support of the people here - this is my family, that I have my daughter back for good - our CPS case is closed, for food in my stomach, clothes on my back, and that I was able to complete Delta College while here.” Thank you for giving to help other homeless mother’s and their children like Samantha this year! Retraining
After forgiveness, comes retraining. Retraining starts with the heart (the spiritual) and includes the emotional, social and physical well-being of each person.
Spiritual retraining provides the framework for the rest of the retraining.
Christian conversion begins a lifelong partnership between the Savior and the convert: Christ forgives and cleanses and the convert, like the “…deer seeking after the water brook” continuously seeks nurturing to live the victorious, new life. Christ provides continuous cleansing and nurturing through his word. Psalms 119 is a virtual library concerning what the Word of God will do for the convert.
Psalms 119:9-16 is an example:
How can a young man (woman) keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word. With all my heart I have sought Thee; do not let me wander from Thy commandments. Thy word have I treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee. Blessed art Thou, O Lord; Teach me Thy statutes. With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of Thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Thy precepts, and regard Thy ways. I shall delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget Thy word.
Emotional healing comes through stability: right and wrong are no longer abstract or relative. Right and wrong, black and white must become concrete. Time and spiritual growth will provide the necessary flexibility for application.
The church provides the ideal environment for re-socialization. It is a forgiving and instructive community. New, likeminded friends can be found who will replace the former associates.
Physical wellbeing will become a natural bi-product of the new Christ-centered, emotionally stable and socially fulfilling life described above.
Thank you for the part that you play in the spiritual, emotional, social and physical healing of our guests!
